i thought i would suggest a "Anything Goes" section for the Candlekeep forums, im not sure if thats a direction u would want to take

i am a Moderator of the "Anything Goes" section at a Message Board with over 2000 active members and an "Anything Goes" section is a good way for the Community that is growing here, as we get to know each other, to share "other then Forgotten realms" stuff

just throwing out a suggestion.

The only problem I've found with having an "anything goes" section is that you have to be very wary of it spreading to the other sections.

As you say though, it's a good way for people to get to know each other

A nice suggestion ArcticKnight, but we wish to keep this forum to FR topics only, as an "anything goes" area would likely get out of hand and is mostly irrelevant to forum users who come to learn and discuss the Realms.

I suppose the nearest thing to getting to know people would be to use the "Adventuring" forum (http://www.candlekeep.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=12) which you can share your experiences etc. with other players.

There would have to be some limatations, you can't just let. EVERYTHING GO, it would be pandimonium.

My name is Tiax, I would ask yours but I don't care to become aquainted with the dead.

Allow me to disagree. With an 'Off Topic' forum, people would know where to post thing not FR related. I think it would help keep the other sub forums clean.

Why? If it is irrelevant to those only concerned with FR, they will know to stay out of it.

I fail to see how an 'Off Topic' would get out of hand, by the way. Could you expand on that?

The last two forums I visited (http://www.euro-morrowind.com/forums & http://www.breathingwater.com/forums) both had Off Topic and they very popular and almost the sub catagory most used.

I think an 'Anything Goes' (a better name would be 'Non-FR Related Topics') forum would be an excellent idea. It would be good to have somewhere on the site to talk about 'other stuff'.

If anything, I think it would keep the level of bull**** posts down in the other forums.

Well Met

The problem with an "anything goes" topic was very clear when this forum was set up, a few members constantly bombarded the forum with, shall i say "garbage" posts and insults. This was totally unnecessary and may have caused new members and guests to turn away from the forum. This IS after all, a Forgotten Realms forum and we believe that such a topic would indeed "get out of hand".

Such a forum would of course be subject to the normal rules here.

What I had in mind was a place for discussing other (A)D&D Campaign Worlds and in genereal literature, movies, politics, games etc.

I agree with Echon. You could have a '3 strikes' system. Every time someone abuse the 'Non FR Related Topics Forum' they could get a strike. Three strikes would mean suspension from Candlekeep.

It would be nice to talk about other SENSIBLE things here as we obviously have some great members here whos opinions I would be interested to here.

I could even moderate that forum for you

Like Echon illustrates in a previous post, an 'anything goes' topic quickly gets out of hand as everyone perceives it as an easy chat like thread. This takes away the intent of the Forum as initially set-up.

Sure it does look nice having a huge number of posts and views on that thread, but it has almost no value add to the forum as a whole and runs the danger of getting out of hand if not strictly moderated.

I believe there are chatrooms, e-mail lists and other forums enough to discuss these 'off - topic' items. No need to duplicate the same again in Candlekeep.

I see your point but I still think it would be a good idea.

It would be a way for members to get to know each other better, discuss topics and may take some of the crap out of the other forums.

It would need a strict rule structure, of course and it would need to be regularly checked by a moderator. I reckon Alaundo would be up to the task, but I could moderate it if he didn't have the time.

I have had a few good ideas for the rule structure, but I wont post those unless it looks likely to go ahead.

All I ask is think about it

I think it is time for us to forget about this. More likely than not, they will not do it.

Yeah you're probably right but no harm in asking. How about it Alaundo?

It is definitely worth asking, and by discussing it here one can see that there are varying opinions on the "Anything Goes" topic. I haven't seen a poll feature in this forum, but if the masters of Candlekeep could enable such a function a poll might be a good way to see if people want such a forum or not, or maybe in a 'restricted variant'...

As mentioned in a few previous posts, the best way to tackle this request is to provide a kind of solution in the form of a "chat room" facility on the site. We are researching into adding a chat room where various discussions can take place as well as in-character tavern chats etc. As Mumadar pointed earlier on, there is no value to the forum to have an "anything goes" topic, members post counts will increase but will bear no reference to your quality standing as a Realmslore contributor.

OK I see your point Alaundo. A chat room is a good idea.

A chatroom works great. Seen it on other site and it really reduced the ammount of spam and off-topic comments posted.

"anything" could mean everything. And I agree it might walk out of hands. Then again I do agree with TDM. Apart from the excellent idea of a chat-room there might be a place for something less topical and still Candlekeep-forum related. I'd suggest something like 'member to member', or 'us' or something like that. Like the 'new kid in town'-catagory (sp?): not strickt FR perhaps, but within boundaries of the site as a whole. (yeah, I know, which boundaries?).

Perhaps Alaundo could question ArticKnight (or is it ArticNight, as someone suggested somewhere else on this board ) in a private mail-conversation what this 'anything'-forum he's moderating is all about and some pro's and con's he met over there.

Where else should we selebrate Mumadar's promotion, to mention something. Or this thread, that's going off-topic in a marvelous way (!)
