There is something that I would like explained as it has puzzled me for quite some time. When I log in I always use the Active Topics function to see what replies have been made. I always make it display active topics since last login.

Today I logged in at 18:17 and have at the moment been here until 21:59 with the page automatically updating every five minutes. However, as time passes by, topics gradually disappear although I have not logged out. Why? I would expect it to keep showing every single active topic for as long as I am logged on, which it does not.

It's because when you don't post or read topics, you are considered logout. So when you are active again, it's like if you were login again.

Tough, i don't know if i made myself claer

I understand what you are trying to say. I simply find it peculiar that the server considers me logged out when it says 'You are logged on as Echon'.

Hmmmmmmm
As long as you stay logged on and dont leave the current browser session then all topics should remain in your Active Topics, unless you leave the session inactive without an interaction for 20 minutes (which is classed by the system as a logout)

Admittedly, I had thought that an automatic refresh was classed as interaction though

It would be nice if it worked that way...[hint][/hint].
What I mean is that it is more practical to simply leave the computer, with the page automatically updating every few minutes, and occasionally return to see if anything has happened.

I would say that the latter (zemd's comment) is only a minor inconvenience... though if it can be solved relatively easy... why not...

I can't say that I've seen the topics disappear from the active list. But then again I don't stay on that long, I just return frequently...

Is it just wishful thinking on my part or does the automatic update suddenly count as activity? I have not done anything for at least forty minutes and none of the threads have disappeared.

It also seems that you have changed the website statistics at the bottom of the main page to no longer display the numbers of active topics since last visit, only wether there are any or not.

I noticed that too; however, it looks like it's back to normal.

Hmmmmm, very odd! I had noticed this change myself, although I have no idea how it happened

It seems that it doesnt record outstanding topics when you come in as a Guest, but logging in with your member name shows the stats correctly. Or is anyone having this problem when theyre signed in?

I was, for a while . . . but like I said, it seems to be fixed.

Strike that -- it's back. I thought maybe it was the Inn messing things up (rules in that being a bit different) but I just got on and the only active topic was Vlad's post. Yet it didn't say "one active topics" like it usually does, only that there were "active topics."

I know it's more work for you guys, and I'm just a user who not only doesn't know how to run a site or use HTML without a step-by-step guide and I'm not paying one whit for this so I really don't have any grounds for complaint . . . . It's just that I do miss knowing how many active threads there are without having to click on it and count 'em myself. I know, I'm lazy, but -- well, I don't have an excuse, just an idle complaint.

Maybe a resident cybermancer can explain it to me, using nice, small words?
