I know there might be a question just like this, but I'm going to ask it anyways. I know that Ao is supposed to be the overdeity who keeps the other deities in line. I know that he punished the demi-human gods during the Time of Troubles, but that's what I don't get. These deities also existed in other Material Planes (Greyhawk, etc.); what happened to these worlds? Did Ao talk with the overdeities of these Material Planes about this?

I am not sure, but I think that only Faerunian pantheon was affected by Ao's "wrath". Remember that the action that started it was the robbery of the Tablets of Destiny, stolen by Faerunian gods. So they were the ones punished by the over-god. If I am not mistaken, after all I am a follower of Forgotten Realms, not Greyhawk,... |

All of the deities were cast down. However it was only thier avatars that were cast down and so most of the multisphereic deities weren't killed, or if they were then they were brought back to life.
But with the new cosmology retcon this no longer matters because the named beings are not the same named beings between the different and seperate cosmologies. I.E. Lloth of Greyhawk is no longer the Lloth of FR except in name only. |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

So in other words, what happened during the Time of Troubles didn't affect other Material Planes. |
I have not yet begun to adventure! |

Right if you use the new planes or if you use the old planes then it didn't effect the other crystal spheres. :) |

Indeed.

Well, especially in the change to 3E - everything got turned on its head in one way or another.

For more info about what various deities were doing during the Time of Troubles, look here. Be wary of spoilers, if you've not read the Avatar trilogy. |

I have read the Avatar trilogy (a friend of mine loaned it to me a while back). I was surprised to read a book in which one of the characters is talking to the reader. |
I have not yet begun to adventure! |

Are you refering to the statement AO makes in the end? |
