I was just thinking of something. If a normal mortal gathers together some people who follow the person, will that person become a god due to the fact that a deity's power is based on how many followers the person has?

I dont think so. The mortal lacks the last thing in it: AO's aggreement in it all. |
A wise man from Calimport once told me: "If a merchant puts sand in the flask of oil he's trying to sell you, then he isn't trying to sell you sand..." |

Indeed, Ao's approval is the only thing that can make anyone a god....however, it would seem that he/she/it would most definitely take notice if enough people worshipped the mortal fervently enough... |
My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm |

I think that the key to ascension is worshipers. Many mortals have followers. That does not make them god material. Though I agree that Ao would have the final say but if enough mortals worshiped another then that would do it. |

If the person seeking Godhood claimed a previously unclaimed portfolio, they would have a better chance, I imagine. |

You can also try to kill a deity (By the way Artalis, did nighteye manage to kill Lolth?). You can also just ask the deity for his godhood, like Bhaal, Bane and Myrkul did... (but i think it's quite rare ) |

No Zemd, not yet things have been on hold for awile RL getting in the way of fun, you know how it is....
Drummerboy: I believe you need a divine sponsor for ascension in most cases (Faiths and Pantheons has a whole section on it). |

Thanks, Artalis. I'll take a look at that section in Faiths and Pantheons. |
