quote: August 10, 2005 (Renton, Wash.) – Coming this month Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), presents LEGENDOLOGY ™ (legendology.com), a new media venture designed to chronicle and expand the iconic worlds of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ®, MAGIC: THE GATHERING ®, HECATOMB ™ and more. The newly launching cyberzine from the world leader in hobby gaming will debut with short fiction from some of Wizards’ classic game settings, plus the groundbreaking new world of IRREVERENTS ™. Penned by veteran writers such as Ed Greenwood, the stories will be illustrated with originally commissioned and vintage art, taking form in 16,000-word, serially published, novelettes.
“LEGENDOLOGY will provide a home for classic tales and new traditions in the rich storylines that form the basis for Wizards’ iconic game worlds,” said Andrew Finch, Director of New Business R&D at Wizards of the Coast. “As well, it will allow us to ‘test the waters’ with new universes, permitting fans a first-of-its-kind sneak peak into the creative process.”

Sweet mother of Lurue, there's a Jeff Grubb story on there!
Wizards really needs to learn how to plug the various features of their website... |

Interesting, but with my narrow focus on things fantasy-ish, I'll probably only pick up any material penned by Ed or other authors who write in the Realms.

Krash has a point.
And although I've found interest in several of the "earliest" M:tG novels... the stories from the last few years have been less-than-stellar. So for this LEGENDOLOGY at least, I can't really see it holding my attention.
I'll keep my eyes on the "cyberzine" though. I look forward to the time when there may be stories by authors I enjoy.

So, does anyone know why Wizards hasn't updated the Legendology page in over a month? |

Yes. Ed has been talking to the relevant WotC folks, and Legendology is on "temporary hiatus" because some changes to it are planned, and because of shortage of WotC personnel (the last layoffs). It's NOT dead, and the stories (such as Ed's "Oroon Rising") will be seen. Eventually. I understand there may be a message to that effect posted on the Legendology boards soon. Ed knows something of the future plans but of course cannot share them. love, THO |

Aye...
I thought there was a reason why I was no longer posting links to Ed's "Oroon Rising" in his scroll here.

It looks like the hiatus is over... Oroon Rising - Chap. 9 has been posted.
... And I beat you to the punch for posting the link in Ed's thread, Sage. |

Well met
I wondered if there are any verdicts on this long-running tale by Ed? I have yet to read it myself but would be interested to hear any views. |

Well, I'm enjoying it... but that's mainly due to my bias for Ed's fiction. And while it isn't strictly a "Realms" tale... I feel that Ed's significant ability to visualise and create exciting worlds and intriguing places and peoples... has again found some grand expression in the story that is Oroon Rising.
To put it simply... I await each new part with a fair degree of enthusiasm.

I'm enjoying it. I wasn't sure that I would, since I've had mixed experiences with Ed's fiction. The plot is rather unique, and I find myself wondering just how it's going to play out. |

Ed himself views it as "good 'pulp' dungeon-crawl fun, with some character development." The Legendology stories were originally supposed to be open-ended (to be continued if readers liked them enough), so Ed sprinkled his with a large cast of interesting characters, so readers could pick those they wanted to read more about. I don't think Legendology is following this model any longer, but Ed's novella was handed in as a complete work (with, as I said, an 'open' ending). Please let us know what you think of it; I'll relay comments posted here to Ed. love, THO |

Aye... I just did .
I want to go more in-depth though. But I'll do that once the entire tale is completely online.
