There's a new article series at the WotC website. It's short fiction. So far, it's nothing to rave over, but much better than typical Internet fiction. Better than my story (though it never got edited first).

There is something annoying about it. A while back, a poster sarcastically noted that WotC might be inserting the game-rule text of new feats into D&D novels. It appears that this suggestion, which was presented decidedly tongue-in-cheek, has come true to some respect. We not only have a feat in this story, we also get monster stats. Both are delivered in sidebars.

As I said, the story isn't amazing, but I think it's good enough to stand on its own without adding in feats and stats and new rules. Was this really necessary?

Your thoughts?

Link please. It becomes hard to coment on "feats and stats and new rules" without reading the story.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

The fiction in the website at Wotc is not bad at all, from my view.

We have fostered trust, recruited loyalty, and gathered the faithful. We have trained thousands. Our legions can cover the land, fill the sky and travel through the darkness. We can hunt any and all that would deny our heritage. Now is our time, now is the time of the Dark Reign(Rain) of the Empire of Shadows.

A feat to achive a spell effect, *shakes hrad* .

A caller from the deep, they already exist. *sighs*

Bookwyrm , I do thank you for the link, however I agree with Wooly, there is nothing to grab me.

The story itself appears to be lacking as well.

In some respests the feat is that of a windfinder and I do not see it being used at all in the story. What I do see is no ship protocol at all. I do see no chain of command. I see a story that on onset makes little sense at all.

Agreed. I didn't find anything here that really made me feel like I was glad for having read this.

I'm more than a little disturbed by the "crunch" material slowly sleeking its way into the material though...

I don't care as long as they don't start putting sidebars in the novels with feats and monster stats. That being said, this story wasn't great by any means, but it wasn't that bad either. I just assumed it was an interesting way to introduce material from Stormwrack.
