I just wanted to inform everyone that there will be a new stand-alone series of four books (each written by a different author), released after the Dungeon Series, called the Citadels Series.
Book Number one of that series is tentatively entitled Neversfall and is due out March, 2008.
It will be my first book. :)

Sounds thrilling... Can you give a hint to what the books will be about... A little teaser to get the hopes of us all up. |

The new series sound appealing to me, perhaps would the author mind sharing some information about what is it about? |
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open. |

I should clarify (I've edited the original post to reflect this as well) that I will only be writing book one of this four part series. The other books are by other authors. Each book is a stand-alone.
I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to share much of anything right now except to say that the title of the book is the name of a citadel where the story will take place.
I'll give what details I can as I am allowed to do so.
I will give one hint : It's set in my favorite part of Faerun, an area that I believe has been barely touched (if at all) in the novels. |

Pardon my asking, can I ask what is the estimated release of the first book of the citadel series? Also , three other authors was mentioned to be involved in writing the series, so uh....any comments about who would be writing? |

Shadovar,
The book is scheduled to be out March, 2008 at this point.
I have no idea who else will be writing in the Citadels series, I'm afraid. I am very much looking forward to knowing. |

Thank you Richard! Thank you VEDSICA!
For the series we were allowed to either make our own Citadel or choose an existing one. It was hard to choose. There are so many great ones, but as the story formed in my mind, I realized that I would need one of my own invention.
I'm extremely curious to see which of the others were chosen by the other authors. |

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between a 'Dungeon' and a 'Citadel?' With the Dungeons series, I was under the impression that WotC's definition of a 'Dungeon' covered just about any structure for adventuring, including citadels. It just seems a little close for the titles of the new series. Oh yes, and congrats on the book deal, Ed! Don't know too much about you, so I can't guess the area. There have been many areas uncovered, but I'm guessing it's not the Great Glacier/Sossal, Maztica, Zakhara, or Kara-Tur/the Endless Wastes. I doubt those 'fringe areas' will ever recieve (more) coverage. So come on, people, guess the area! I'd love to know where it's set (the setting of a novel is, for me, a big influence on whether I buy it or not - I doubt I'll ever buy a novel set in the Dales or Cormyr due to excessive coverage). Say - is it Amn? Oh, please say you're writing in Amn! |
So sayeth the Smyther, the Dark Bard of Amn. |

This is just my take on your questions Smyther and should not be considered an "official" answer. I think the purposes behind the two structures are really what define a Citadel and a Dungeon, Smyther.
I agree that even areas above ground can be Dungeons (though I think we'd all agree they're typically underground) and vice versa. However, a Citadel typically represents one set of purposes where a Dungeon represents others.
Maybe that's just me, though.
I will not be able to confirm any guesses as to the location just yet, but sure, fire away! I'll be curious to see what people come up with. :) |

Alaundo,
As I mentioned above, I'm afraid I have no idea who the other writers in the series are at this point. I'm quite anxious to learn that myself. |

Whether it be you or another, someone better cover the dwarven citadels of the Silver Marches! *mutters to self* can't have a proper series titled Citadels without havin' dwarves in there... |

You know, come to think of it, it would be pretty cool to get some first hand information on Citadel Adbar instead of having it filtered through other sources . . . |

So, maybe we'll finally get a book set in the Realms with dwarves as the main characters. Adbar, Felbarr, or any others. My money is on Felbarr with the recent reconquest and the unknown factors of reopening some of the old rooms and mines. |

Sounds like something to look forward to. Sad that we have to wait for so long before we can read the finished book, but i would rather wait for a great book than get a halhearted book today. Congratulations with the deal... Excited to see the finished product... |

Thank you Faramicos. I agree that the wait will be a long one. I will do my best to make it worth it.
TH, KEJ and Khorne, I'm afraid I can't speak to the possibilities of any of the dwarven citadels being represented or not in the series. |

Well then, generally, who/what are the main characters and I assume it's somewhere near Neverwinter ...? As a lover of the North, I'm looking forward to this one.

Well, actually the product description mentioned Estagund. Which I think is great, since it's a little explored area of the Realms. |

It did?! Hmm, when I heard "Neversfall" I thought of Lord Never of 'fighting Illusk back in the day' fame.

Neversfall is set in the Shining South. I'm glad someone else is excited about the South, Rinonalyrna. As folks may remember that's where my short story from RoTDII was set. I've loved the area ever since I first read about it in the FRCS. The Shining South book added to that, of course.
Neversfall takes place in the wilds of Veldorn with characters from Estagund and Durpar for the most part. There are others from other locales but in minor roles.
I have to be careful of what I say, of course, but I think it's safe to say that I feel that one of the major themes is personal growth and change. For those that are into the mechanics of gaming, the primary character goes through a (hopefully) dramatic shift of alignment but not the traditional good guy goes bad or bad guy goes good. Think about the other scale of alignment. The story has tendencies toward mystery though I would hesitate to call it a true mystery novel.
The primary characters are from different military units, including the excellent and fun Maquar. By the way, anyone who tries to write military-based fiction gets my kudos and sympathy. It's tough to keep a certain sense of rigidity in behavior in mind. However, it does help prevent one from falling into the trap of letting the character do something "convenient" for the story.
A particular type of extra-creepy creature plays a major role in the story and, as far as I know, this creature has never appeared in a Realms novel before. Note: I could easily be wrong about that.
I think I'll stop there for now. I can try and answer questions, of course.
Thanks everyone. |
