For those of you who no longer subscribe to Dragon, be sure to pick up issue #334. WOW! This article features 12, yes 12, pages of glorious Realmslore from the bearded one himself. Here's a taste: city streets, Badges, merchant shingles, street signs, a full page map of the city, sights and shopping, Shadow Thieves, a list of crimes and associated punishments, the brands that are given as punishments, inns, ghosts, taverns, even a list of names common to the city. Whew! I got my subscription to Dragon back at issue 274, but started picking them up off and on at issue 106. In all that time, I have to say that this is my favorite article I have ever read in a Dragon magazine. Thank you Ed!

Are there other cool articles in this issue? Why, yes.
Ecology of the Kraken
Boooze in D&D
Dreams of Arabia (a bestiary of Akkadian, Arabian, Egyption, and Persian myths)

War to slay, not to fight long and glorious.
Aermhar of the Tangletrees
Year of the Hooded Falcon

Xysma's Gallery
Guide to the Tomes and Tales of the Realms download from Candlekeep
Anthologies and Tales Overviews

Check out my custom action figures, hand-painted miniatures, gaming products, and other stuff on eBay.

Booze in D&D? Overall it sounds like a fantastic issue

Any hints of which city that gets the Bearded One treatment next?

Does the article update Amn in any way?

Lands of Intrigue left lots of plots hanging (the monsters in the southern port comes to mind), and I am curious if any of those are resolved.

I had a character who was an aficionado of ale. We were playing 2nd edition, and I rolled very well for gold. Since the character concept prevented spending money on some of the obvious big-ticket items (like a horse), I had all this extra gold to spend... So I flipped thru Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog. When I hit the section on beers and ales, a new facet was added to my character's personality.

I obviously don't know about that article... But the AWRC is a wonderful resource for fleshing out all sorts of things in the Realms, including types of booze available to characters.

For anyone that regularly cruises those boards (or even if you don't, just to show your support), some of the local, er, anti-Realmsian, anti-Ed detractors have gotten some early jabs in on Ed's article, and given that Dragon and Dungeon have just, under Erik Mona, decided to revitalize their Realms coverage, I would hate for them to get the wrong idea about how people received Ed's article.

SO . . . if you care to keep the review positive (or even if you don't have anything positive to say, but at least you can be objective) pop by this location and let them know what you think of Ed's Cities of the Realm launch article.

... or more importatly, show your support the rodent way: buy the issue. Sales (and later backlist sales) ultimately decides the support of Forgotten Realms. Twelve pages of bearded lore cannot be ignored by any FR fan, and hopefully it will show on the Paizo bottomline.

I bet Mona recognizes constructive critisim when he sees it. People has bashed FR (and Eberron) on the Paizo boards since day one, so the recent change in the level of FR content is not based on messageboard rants.

Oh, I'm sure sales do more to convince them than anything else, but I do worry about some of the ancillary effects. I don't think negative comments on the article will scare of Ed, for example, but perhaps a newcomer to wrighting articles will see how FR articles are received and decide that its not worth it.

Besides, I'm just not one to let unfounded comments stand. Part of free speech is knowing that someone might free speech you back, lol.

Well met

Thank ye for bringing this to our attention, KnightErrantJR. I suggest we all head over to the Paizo board and show our support for the Realms and an abundance of Realms material in future Dragon issued

May I suggest that we discuss this particular issue over here, if need be, and keep this scroll dedicated to talking about Crimmor

Well met

I managed to pick up Dragon magazine today and must say i'm very impressed with Ed's entry of Crimmor. An outstanding article! I'll be going over this again in more detail later this week.

Certainly looking forward to more Cities of the Realms as well as the forthcoming Waterdeep articles over the next few issues. THIS is the Dragon i know and love

Any other thoughts on this particular article?

THO said a few weeks back that due to Ed's other committments, the articles won't be following in successive issues of Dragon. More likely they will make quarterly appearances.

BUT there's an interview with Ed in the next issue, from what Eric Boyd and others have murmured around various places on the Net. I think it's a revamped review from Sylvan, by Jeff Thetford. I believe that same next issue will have Waterdeep stuff by Eric and an Elaith story by Elaine that involves Waterdeep.

Did you subscribe?

Given Pazios recent performance with the realms (recent being the last 11 months) I couldnt see any reason to subscribe to the either magazine.

If we I was gurranteed to get a realms related article in every or even every 2nd Magazine then I might think about about subscribing

Im getting 333 on friday and the last issue I bought before that was 322 almost a year ago (the one with Tom Costas Bhaal speciality Cleric) and the last time I bought 2 Dragon issues in a row was 311 and 312

Yes, within the first week of June. Given the 6-to-8 week shipping standard though, I suppose I'll be getting my issue #333 toward the end of this month.

Just finally purchased my copy of Dragon 334.
Just skimmed the article, looks very good, but that is to be expected of Realmslore by Ed.

Only thing that had me a bit put out was the NPCs that had a stat line, didn't have the ethnic group they belonged to listed for the humans.
