In my opinion, the whole planar seas section felt out of place and unnecessary.
Why?

I simply didn't deem it necessary to be part of a seafaring tome. I felt that the planes had been awkwardly worked into the book. Still, that's simply my humble opinion and personal dislike. I'm sure the planar section would appeal to many and mayhaps be the highlight of the tome |

To be honest, I was quite disappointed in this particular tome. Whilst I enjoyed Frostburn and Sandstorm, I somehow expected more from Stormwrack. The chapter on vessels was perhaps a fifth of the size I had hoped. Mayhaps I was looking for a good comparison against the old 2nd edition Of Ships and Sea tome.
The abundance of spells, PrCs etc. sadly did not appeal More informatin on actual sea-faring and ships would have

Well, you must remember that WotC isn't going to be pumping out 250+ page tomes, especially not for accessories.
I personally am in love with Stormwrack. I give it a 5/5. It was brief, yes, but it used all of its pages well, and contains great crunch and (*gasp!*) fluff, especially for a generic accessory. The art was utterly fantastic, alone worth the price. This is my first encounter with some of the artists, and I've been very, very impressed by them (most notably Lee Moyers's nereid).
And I started a thread over in the WotC forums asking how some people implemented material from Stormwrack into campaigns (Mr. Grey Richardson included) in the Forgotten Realms. I'm really, really wanting to implement the aventi into the Realms. I'm wanting to have them be survivors of ancient Jhaamdath, but that's somewhat thwarted by the fact that the Nikerymath mages did that to the Jhaamdathans, and I desire the fall instead revolving around Umberlee, whom Aventernus is an adversary of. I dislike rewiring everything just to suit my needs- I like solidity and cohesiveness. Any ideas? |

Not sure about specifics, since I have only skimmed the book, but I must say that I have, in general, liked the terrain books (Frostburn, Sandstorm, Stormwrack) more than some of the other core books from the last year (for example, the Races of books). Still, Frostburn was my favorite of all of the terrain books. |

Frostburn was definitely the best - and didn't it seem like the movie Tremors? Like each one after that got a little more reaching and a little more worse? Still, I wonder if there are any terrain books left to come out.

Sandstorm just felt meh to me. The order I would rate the 3 would be 1) Frostburn, 2) Stormwrack, and 3) Sandstorm. |

P.s. - any one else out there collector's for collecting sake?
I liked the other enviromental books a lot too and got Stormwrack on Amazon.com when it first came out.
I liked a lot of the monsters in Stormwrack.
I've gotten most of the official WOTC 3.x books both as a collector and some to use in my campaigns but others I have no use for and wont buy just to add to my collection like Weapons of Legacy and the 3.0 Hero's builder Guidebook which IMHO was horrible and just a collection of articles from Dragon.

I think it could fit in as a 3.5 update to the material in Sea of the Fallen Stars and as an update to the aquatic monsters in the 1e/2e monster books and compendiums. Some of the PrC in the book are generic enough to be added to the Realms.
As to the new aquatic races its up to you as a DM if you wanted to include them in your campaign in the Realsm.

Is the information on ships truly so limited? I've been doing some nautical reading-up on Wikipedia for the last few days - would access to Stormwrack gain me much over and above what I can find there?

D&D collection: Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual I, Complete Arcane, Arms & Equipment Guide.
FR sourcebook collection: Dragons of Faerūn, Faiths & Pantheons, FRCS, Lords of Darkness, Monsters of Faerūn, Player's Guide to Faerūn, Power of Faerūn, Races of Faerūn, Silver Marches.
I just got back into this, okay? Give me time (or better yet money) - I'll catch up soon enough. |

I picked this book up very recently then ended up giving it to a fellow DM as we were about to set sail as part of an adventure.
Have to say that now it's like 4-5 weeks later and given the number of times our DM has cracked that book open and with all the crazy fun things we've had our characters do in the past several encounters that it was deffinately worth the purchase.
I juse hope I get to read it some day.

09/20/2008: Tiger Army at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. You wouldnt believe how many females rode it out in the pit. Santa Cruz women are all of them beautiful. Now I know to add tough to that description. 6/27/2008: WALL-E is about the best damn movie Pixar has ever made. It had my heart racing and had me rooting for the good guy. 9/9/2006: Dave Mathews Band was off the hook at the Shoreline Amphitheater.
Never, ever read the game books too literally, or make such assumptions that what is omitted cannot be. Bad DM form, that.
And no matter how compelling a picture string theory paints, if it does not accurately describe our universe, it will be no more relevant than an elaborate game of Dungeons and Dragons. --paragraph 1, chapter 9, The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene |
