In the game I am currently running the the PC's are evil members of the Zhentarim. One of their superiors is bargaining with a summoned devil and the devil demands the horn of a unicorn...cliche, I know
Anyway. The party has been asked to find a unicorn so together they decided that a follower of Malar would be able to help them. They have previously met one and knew that they claimed to be the ultimate hunters.
So, the PC's right now are on there way into a forest to meet with a "Pries of Malar" that they have heard about. What they failed to gather in their preperation is that he is also a werewolf and the leader of a "pack" of People of the Black Blood.
I'm looking for ideas for some unique role-play oppurtunities I can throw at my party upon meeting with the "Bloodmaster". Do you think a pack of Lycanthropes would help? What would their price be? What should the PC's encounter when encrouching on "their" forest?
I have read the Sembia series which discusses a werewolf of Malar as well as the entries in the FRCS, Lords of Darkness, and Champions of Ruin. Does anybody know of any other sources I should take a look at?
Any other tips/ideas/thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Well, first I would have to ask if they are paying the Malarians for their assistance. If not, the leader would probably pick a fight with the party's leader to determine his strength. Sort of a respect thing, but he would also want to know whether or not it would be easier to just whack the party and go on with life.
Another point: If there was a unicorn in the area of a Malaran sect, they may not want to part with it at all, choosing instead to hunt it down on a special holiday and sacrifice it themselves. The party had better have something that interests (or has a higher value to) the Malarans more than the unicorn.
They may also choose to infect one or more party members with lycanthropy, inducting them into their group, to give them a spy within the Zhent camp.
That's all I can think of for now... |

Perhaps you should also read about the Bloodmoon Circle. They consider themselves part of the Malarite cult known as the People of the Black Blood, which operates in and around the Moonwood of the Silver Marches.
They're covered in the 3e Silver Marches tome... another sourcebook you might consider reading for your campaign.

Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure what they have for payment at this point but I know they were discussing some options. One of them came up with capturing a acolyte of Selune to give as a "gift".
As for a Unicorn in the area....
I wasn't planning on having the Malarites live in close proximity to a Unicorn and do nothing about it. I kind of give my PC's free reign to try and accomplish their goals however they want and they decided to check with the Malarites. At best I was going to have the Malarites give them information on the types of places they could find their pray.
I particularly like the idea of wanting to infect one of the party members to have a spy.
And to the Sage...
I have Silver Marches and totally forgot about the Bloodmoon Circle, I will take another look at that. Thanks.
