In the 3E DMG, there was a table detailing apprentice level characters for multi-classing at first level, but it was omitted in the 3.5E DMG. Does anyone know why it was removed (was it flawed, unbalanced, etc.)?

It was considered flawed as far as I know. Discussions revolved about how to balance two classes as to what abilities should be granted. Some combinations clearly appeared to be unbalanced compared to others. I do not believe there ever was put out an official explaination of why it was removed. It certainly was broke in some respects. |

However, that's no reason not to use the 3E rules if your DM allows you to do an apprentice level character. |
