Thoughts on the Feat: Spell Thematics? I'm fascinated by the potential applications and image posibilities.

Currently I'm running a wizard who has a Raven familiar and who has elected the Birds theme for his spells.

Theme spells so far-

0-level Mage Hand (Very cool to have a ghostly raven fetch and fly about as a Mage Hand.)
1st level Magic Missle- (Again, a murder of ravens bursting forth to peck at his foes before vanishing.)

Thoughts on higher level theme spells?

2nd Level Summon Swarm (of course of ravens)
3rd Level Wind Wall (a shield of ravens)
4th Level Shout (load raven calls)
5th Level Prying Eyes (in form of a raven)
6th Level Repulsion (ravens appearing to keep others from approching)
7th Level Power Word Blind (traget believes eyes pecked out by raven)
8th Level Prying Eyes, Greater (Raven eyes)
9th Level Meteor Swarm (4 exploding ravens)

Is this what you where seeking?

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

I like too much of this feat and his aplications, too!

These are all good, I'm also thinking of various other themes, as well as potential spell combinations that capitolize on the +1 caster level for theme spells.
(I believe the feat gives a +4 DC for spellcraft checks to determine what spell you are casting, as well as one spell per level is cast as a Theme spell and is cast at +1 caster level.)

Are there any FR casters who use spell thematics? I don't recall seeing any in the source material, but I haven't made an exhaustive search either.

Given that the Red Wizards are known for an association with fire, but that any wizard that clashes with them would know that as well, I could picture a few of them using spell thematics to make their spells look more like fire. A cone of cold that looks like white flames, an acid arrow the drips green sparks and burns green, etc.

Well met!

It seems that you beat me to it, Forge I had thought about posting a thread about this issue for some time, and I finally did it (under 'Running the Realms'). I expanded the issue somewhat, to concern the "flavour" of magic (both Arcane and Divine) in the Realms. Hopefully you are not offended by this, since I had intended to start that thread for some time

Fireball (can never remember spell-levels off the top of my head, sorry) - an exploding, flaming raven.

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

Not offended at all Asgetrion! In fact, I look forward to discussing this more.

0-level: Arcane Mark (creates a personal magical sigil in the form of a raven)
4-level: Ice Storm (Icy ravens pelt from the sky)
9-level: Gate (A huge raven appears, its outstretched wings forming a gate to another plane)

Just some ideas ...

Goblins? *Slash* *Scream* *Thunk* What goblins?

I would instead make translocation magic be themed to either the shadow of the raven's wings, or a portal former by raven feathers.

Ok, a friend this evening came up with a good one, Spell Thematics: Slapstick.

Scorching ray becomes "Seltzer Ray"
Grease becomes Banana Peels
Web becomes a bucket of glue that appears above them and douses them, etc...
Hold portal magicaly changes the orientation of a door directly opposite of what the person tries to do (A push door becomes pull only, etc... as needed to prevent opening.)
