Hardback, coming sometime to a bookstore nearest you.

From RASalvatore.com RAS Interactive Thread 4(page 5)

PierreJr, I've got "Immortalis" coming out in May, to end the DemonWars' saga. At the same time, CrossGen Comics will release their first anthology of the series, DemonWars: Trial by Fire - I'll have a short story in that one. At the same time, Fast Forward Games will release their first DemonWars d20 supplement (I'll have a different short story in that one). After that barrage comes the next WotC Realms' anthology, I think, and then the next Drizzt book (which is almost finished). Also, sometime later this year, The Crystal Shard comes out in hardcover for the first time. It may be annotated.
Oh yes, and there will be an announcement any day about what's next for my non-Realms' work.

Although im really excited about this, this will be my 3rd DIFFERENT verison of the dang book. the original, the Trilogy in the Collectors edition and now this. i think WOTC is just exploiting us Collectors!!!lol

I dont agree in WotC reasoning behind this! It is purely cashing-in! I have both the collectors edition trilogy and the single paperbacks and thats enough!

Even though im an avid FR collector, I dont think ill go as far as to buy the new hardcover.

What they SHOULD do, is release an Avatar Trilogy hardcover, being as its the most Realms-shattering event ever and would be like an FR bible!

I see theyre releasing Shadowdale again this year though....but its not quite the same. New cover art is not the answer!

Apparently it works. Why would they want to stop?

I am glad I borrow my FR books at the library.

Hehehe... a chance to disagree with Rad

I don't think the AT is written that well to provide a good insight of the TOT. I personally learned much more about the TOT by reading the 2nd edition Gods books and through references in gaming accessoiries then I did from the novels. They read too much like some groups adventuring party on an epic quest for my taste. I read the series under the impression that I would learn more about the TOT, but only Crucible provided some of that hoped for relevance. The first three books are nothing more then a full color image of the references I mentioned above.

I fully agree. I decided to read the Avatar trilogy after playing the games hoping that I might learn more, which I did not.

er...ahem, i mean...

Well I didnt particularly enjoy the Avatar Trilogy at all! Id only recommend them due to the actual event that is essential to Realmslore. I just think it would be nice to have the Avatar Trilogy, maybe together with Prince of Lies and Crucible. Imagine it now, leather-effect cover, metal clasp, entitled "The Avatar Bible" oooooooohhhh now dont tell me ya not droolin' at the thought

Hmmm... you've got a point...

Though I'd rather spend my money on hardcover versions of the Sembia series or such... those give a little better return on investment.

Update,

RAS just got word that "Homeland" will be the first book to be published in Hardback, not "The Crystal Shard"

RASalvatore.com Interactive Thread 4 (page 6)

RASALVATORE:
Apostle, I just found out that the first of the original six books coming out in hardback will be “Homeland.” I think it’s scheduled for early 2004.
