I recently embarked up my quest of passing my hobby onto the kids, my daughter (age 10) my stepdaughter (age 13) and my stepson (age 15).
After finding the lair of a bright naga in the Rat Hills, the fighter and the sorcerer charge the monster. It knocks the fighter silly, and the sorcerer provokes an attack of opourtunity by getting within ten feet of the fighter to stabilize her. The paladin, who stayed back trying to find cover and shoot at the beast from cover, hefted both of them and ran, thankfully not pursued since the naga didn't want to leave its lair.
The sorcerer decied to buy a dog, which I pointed out he could not train, and as such he had no way to control it in combat. He didn't care, the party paid a cleric to heal them, and headed back out right away.
Outside of the naga's lair, the sorcerer send the dog in first, the naga blasts the dog an kills it, while the fighter and paladin take cover and start shooting, and the sorcerer flings some spells.
Apparently the sorcerer isn't an animal lover.

Using the dog as a decoy... I'd not have thought of that one, but it obviously worked.
What was the dog's name, Red Shirt? |

That was good . . . ironically the reference would be lost on the kids. |

I'd say bonus XP for the one who came up with that!
It's good to game with your kids. You get the Jindael's Dad of the Day award.
I trust you are running the Realms for them, yes?

Yes, the character that came up with the dog trick was a Chaotic neutral sorcrer from the Moonshaes (he wanted an Irish name), played by my 15 year old step son.
For the record, the 13 year old, my step daughter, was the only one to think of buying anything but weapons and armor, and thus had a rope to haul the other two out of a pit when then blundered in.
My daughter, who is still obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh, has a paladin whose father was a Shou Expatriate, so she could have a katana. She is the muscle of the group. She was the one the made the other two say grace before they ate in the common room of the Inn.
Thanks for the award, lol. |
