Hi folks!

I am elaborating southern Daggerdale. In my campaign, I have divided Daggerdale in three areas: nothern, middle, and southern Daggerdale.

Southern Daggerdale
-------------------
Southern Daggerdale is a 1200 square miles big region that stretches from the Serpent Bridge 20 miles to the north and 30 miles to the south, and has a population of 4,000 adults ("adults", with human PHB standards, that would be 15+). There is 1 village, 3 hamlets, 32 thorps, and 60 farmsteads (standalone farms with a population of 10 adults -- and in need of a lot of protection) in southern Daggerdale. Furthermore, the population consists of 2,166 Chondathans, 862 Vaasans, 402 dwarves, 200 halflings, 140 other non-humans, 130 gnomes, 50 Tethyrians, 30 half-orcs, and 20 humans belonging to another ethnic group than the ones previously mentioned.

Daggerdale South of the Serpent Bridge
--------------------------------------
Now, Daggerdale south of the Serpent Bridge is part of the above described Southern Daggerdale. And, the most known community is Anathart's Dell. Below Anathar's Dell, the Brightblade dwarves "have rich silver mines far below the surface".

Elaborating Daggerdale South of the Serpent Bridge
--------------------------------------------------
Now, in my campaign, I am thinking of having 1,100 inhabitants in Daggerdale south of the Serpent Bridge. There would exist 1 hamlet, 9 thorps, and 17 farmsteads.

Anathar's Dell could be a small thorp where humans and half-elves live, together with the Brightblade dwarves. But, how many would those dwarves be? I am also, thinking of making Anathar's Dell a hamlet by increasing the population to 370. That would mean that a lot of poeple had settled down in the well protected Dell. Why not? Furthermore, I would make Anathar's Dell a "center of administration" for Daggerdale south of the Serpent Bridge. Now, folks of Daggerdale are not much for bureaucracy. But, did not our friend Randal spend some time in Anathar's Dell? In my campaign, Randal Morn is structuring his country, and Anathar's Dell with its location, and silver mines makes it a very important place.
Is there any information, or suggestion, on when the Brightblade dwarves started mining below todays Anathar's Dell? And, when did the wizard Anathar come to the dell? Any good suggestion?

I have another settlement in mind, a stockaded thorp named Tedars gård (Tedar's farm), located 10 miles southeast of Anathar' Dell and settled by 48 Tethyrians from the Western Heartlands. Maybe, folks, you could help me with the following: When did they come, from where, and why?

OK, that is all for now ...

Best regards,
Manuel

can´t remember any official information about it, but in my campaign clan brightblade is a surviving clan from Tethyamar, which means that either the dwarves started to settle in the dell a few hundred years before today right after their realm under the desertsmouth mountains fell (1) or that the dwarves settled here already before Tethyamar´s fall (using the dell as an outpost for trading with humans) and experienced an influx of dwarven refugees(2) after the fall.

(1) Ghellin, Tethyamar´s last king died in 1370 DR in cormyrean exile.
afaik, there is no "official" date for tethyamar´s fall, but it might have fallen shortly (one or two years) after the battle of bones (1090 dr, iirc), where the dwarves had lost a great number of their best warriors and were thus weakened to the point of being unable to defend themselves against the goblinoid hordes that were lead by powerful leaders (sometimes undead and/or demons).
(2) ...either mostly dwarves of the Brightblade clan or clanless refugees that were given clan membership.

hope that helps.

Thanks tauster,

That map, is it an official FR map, or a home made?

There is now official information regarding Tethaymar. It was founded -145 DR. It was sieged 1090 DR. And it fell 1104 DR. All can be read in Lost Empires of Faerûn.

it was taken from the FR interactive atlas, but i can´t for the live of me remember if it came with the original maps, one of the three updates (found on wizards website) or from elsewhere (perhaps the "northern journey"- project (http://www.vintyri.com/vintyri/njstart.htm) ???). sorry!

I asked Ed G about the relationship between the Dwarves of Brightblade and those Dwarves who used to live in the Mines of Tethyamar.

If your looking for info on Daggerdale the best info is probably in the Sword of the Dales Trilogy (particularly the last module)

Anathar's Dell is described in the novel Finders Bane (Around the start)

“I am the King of Rome, and above grammar”

Emperor Sigismund

"Its good to be the King!"

Hi Dargoth,

I finally found your post to Ed Greenwood about the relation between the dwarves of Tethaymar and the Brighblade Clan dwarves ... you did though write Ironstar ... and, the Ironstar are another dwarven clan. Still, Ed's answer did not provide much, only, that two clans (Brighblade and the Iron House) did coexist in this region of Faerûn.

I have the following:
- Finders Bane,
- The Sword of the Dale
- The Return of Randal Morn

But not the following:
- The Secret of Spiderhaunt Woods
- The Doon of Daggerdale
- Secret of the Spider Queen

I have posted some questions to Ed, but, I continue to develop "my" Daggerdale in the meantime.

Just a quick one: Volos guide to the Dalelands provides some info on Daggerdale. Additionally there is a rare guide named the Dalelands i've got a copy somewhere I'd need to find it though.

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore-
While i nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
