Kinda-sorta a spoiler!!!!

Personally (and I think that even Salvatore himself said so in an interview), I believe that resurrecting Wulfgar was a huge mistake, and that the latter novels are proving this....I don't think that we really know what to do with him!

This brings me to two questions.....

1) Do you agree? Should Wulfgar have stayed dead? Or at least on the other side, because if I recall back to the days when I was reading the novel, I personally thought that he was going to have to fight his way to eternal rest in Tempus' domain from the Abyss...I thought that would have been more interesting....he doesn't belong in the Abyss, but I don't think he needs to be running around amongst the living, either...

and

2) If you could resurrect any deceased character in the Realms, who would it be? Please note: Zaknafein doesn't count....he's a given!!! I personally would LOVE to see Vierna again, but that's pretty much impossible...I also liked Whisper (killed by Entreri)...

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

Ill just answer question 1 for now....

I think Wulfgar coming back was a very bad idea! Thats not to say that i didnt enjoy following novels, I loved Spine of the World once it got going! Its not the first time that a character has been brought back under ridiculous circumstances, I feel that authors think that when a character is popular and then killed off, that fans want to see them come back! Authors could potentially ruin a whole series by such actions.

Hmmm im not RAS but im pretty sure that the Wulfgar coming back was planned before he was TELEPORTED to the Abyss in The Legacy. He DIDNT DIE!!!!!!! the Yachoal teleported itself and him to the abyss as the walls were falling down.

So using that Logic, he never came back because he was never dead, he was mearly saved from the abyss by his friends. Had he died, in DND terms, Tempus would have NEVER allowed him to die and end up in the abyss after such a glorious "death" in his name.

im sure this will be debated so i will attempt to ask RAS in his Interactive Thread and see what he says. so no need to flame.

On Topic: i think the person who should be brought back would have to be Shandril from Spellfire Fame.

Have to say Wulfgar coming back was a mistake, didn't really add anything was so much better having a major character dead in the series. Made it a little more realistic for my tastes!!

As to who I would bring back, keeping with the Salvatore feel it would have to be Uthegentel Weapon Master of House Barrison Del'Armgo. There was a big nasty EVIL drow character that should have been made into a main character!!

But I've been known to be wrong!!

ok, asked RAS on his Interactive Thread 4(Page 4) RASalvatore.com

Apostle (thats me) asks:

Hello RAS,

I know how you like to leave some things "open" for interpretation in your novels, like the Cattie and Drizzt stuff but i was wondering if you could shed some light on a debate that often comes up.

Did Wulfgar Die or did the Yachoal teleport itself and him to the Abyss as the cave-in ocurred?

IMNSHO, i think he was Teleported, and never died. In DND terms, with the Gods being protective of its followers, i think Wulfgar Saving his friends by sacraficing himself and yelling TEMPUS!!!!!!! as he did it would have surely caused Tempus to not allow Wulfgar to die and go to the Abyss. surely had he died he would have found an honored place amongst Tempus's realm, and not have to suffer such horrors.

Hopefully you can add some insight to this!

thanks.

RAS Replys:

Apostle, hello again. He didn't die, but Tempus (formerly Tempos) had nothing to do with it. The clue is in the Crystal Shard, when Guenhwyvar basically does the same thing with Regis as the tower collapses. Yes, there are always clues...

Bringing back Wulfgar was odd at first then I was glad he was back. In RAS newest book The Thousand Orcs, Wulfgar has changed and it shows that he has finally overcome the demons in himself. He also has Delly and Colson to look after. RAS did a good thing bringing back Wulfgar it is just going to take time for us all to adapt

I believe it was a good idea Wulfgar was brought back, I would despise the thought of him rotting in the abyss to be tormented for eternity.

I would say Elifain should be brought back. I think she would have been a cool character in the stories if she was still living.

We live in a bleak world my friend, where heroes are few and shadows stalk us around every corner.

I have a suspicion that Elifain will be reincarnated as the child of that Silver Elf couple in The Thousand Orcs (I forget their names). The Elvish Gods tend to do that for Elves who were somehow cheated out of a good life (Remember that Netheril Trilogy?), and the relationship between those Elves, Drizzt, and Elifain would make such a thing appropriate.

Wow, lowtech.

Brilliant deduction....I had never thought of that but it makes a great deal of sense!

Well done...
