The most powerful character I've ever played (and am still playing!) was the Reverend Arwen d'Akadi, a priest of Akadi (currently 25th Level). This is a 2nd Edition character, so bear with me.
He was first created right after the Player's Option books came out, especially Skills & Powers, which lent itself most handily to creating super-powered characters. I chose to create his not so much as a healer, but more of an avenger of Akadi's faith, specializing in the longbow.
When he first reached 11th level, my DM and I got together and (at the cost of three character levels) created the item that made Arwen's power skyrocket:
Akadi's Warbow Longbow with the following properties: Accuracy (as a crossbow of accuracy) Speed (as a crossbow of speed) doubling attacks and adding 1 Distance (as a crossbow of distance) Slaying - 3x per day, when a natural 20 was rolled, the arrow shot would become an arrow of slaying, keyed to the target creature
Monty Haul, you say? Well, maybe a little
But, as with every character I play, Arwen had his drawbacks. And, thanks to Skills & powers, I even got credit for taking these disadvantages. I could not wear ny armor, for one thing.
The biggest disadvantage, however, was that Arwen was severely claustrophobic. Could barely go into a building without getting the jitters. When the rest of the group rented rooms at an inn, Arwen slept on the roof (he also chose, at great cost, the ability to have the fly spell always active). When we were inadvertantly arrested and tossed into a very small jail cell for what can only be described as gross incompetance, Arwen spent the first day going between screaming at the top of his lungs and being beaten senseless (first by the guards, then by his fellow characters). After his voice finally gave out (and mine as well ), he spent several days floating in an upper corner of the cell licking the wall.
But, for the most part, Arwen was and is a delight to play. Just picture a tall, pale skinned, long haired, skinny guy in a pale blue robe with the disposition of a surfer who's seen too many wipeouts and you'll get the picture. |

Most powerful character I've played is my Rogue lvl 9 :) He's dual wielding and has a nice sneak attack bonus, but more importantly improved feint and a wicked bluff skill :) Highest hit in one round I think was around 81 or so (with some good rolling, obviously). Apart from the fact he's a damage machine, with expertise, dodge, twin sword style, buckler+1, studded leather+3 and his dex bonus. Add into that the time he had haste, barkskin and a potion of shield of faith, and all of a sudden we have a rogue with 2 weapons and an ac of 40 |

My most powerful character was a minotaur I played in 2nd edition (I've not yet played 3.x).
Under 2E rules, he had a strength of 20. Add in a magical bastard sword which he was specialized with, and two-handed fighting style specialization, and he kicked some serious tale. I also wound up constantly frustrating the DM by using brute strength to get thru obstacles.
Oh, and he was also known for killing a bunch of goblins or something, and keeping one corpse handy. In the next encounter, he'd open up by trying to knock down an opponent with the thrown corpse. |

Most powerful character I have ever played...
Still Playing him actually. Melville Whistlepick. A Rock Gnome Cleric 6/Techsmith 8 of Gond. Very quirky. Changes his weapon and armor type on a whim. ALL feats are item creation feats. He has a Gondsman named Talia (long story) that wields a +4 Adamantine Greatsword though. It's our party tank actually. The Gnome is really just a walking healing wand.
Most powerful PC I have ever DMed for...
When I DM'd my last campaign we finished City of the Spider Queen and one of the characters was a Ranger6/ Monk6/ Cleric6 of Kelemvor. He was an archer and happens to know a lot more about D&D than the rest of the players so he was pretty damned powerful. |

I would say the most poweful character I have ever played, was a 3e cleric. I designed him around item creation. He spent at least 10% of his xp on creating items. Most he gave to the church, the rest he used to outfit himself and the players.
With the Wizard in the group doing the same thing with 2-5% of his XP and the party donating the necessary gp for the items, it rapidly made for a scary powerful PC party. We were very magically over powered by the base rules, but we made all the items ourselves, and we took the time to adventure for the material. |

The most powerful character I've ever played is my tiefling, Xysma Grymn. He is a CN 2nd level rogue, 7th level fighter, 6th level cleric of Kossuth, and a 2nd level Elemental Archon. He's a pyromaniac who used only alchemist's fires early on in his adventuring career. He later learned to (somewhat) control his complusion to burn things at inaapropriate times. Later on in his career, he encountered worshippers of Kossuth while adventuring near Thay. He currently wields a +3 Mighty composite (+4) flaming longbow, a +4 flaming Elven Thinblade, and a +2 flaming adamantine spiked chain, and he still throws alchemist fires with deadly precision. He wears a +5 Leather Coat with the nimbleness enhancement, and all of his gear is enhanced with fire resistence due to his penchant for walking into fires.
The most powerful character I ever DMed for was my brother's elf archer, Dignan. He was fairly ugly for an elf, and could not speak clearly, but man could he shoot a bow. He had a Dex score of 22 (naturally) further enhanced to a 28 by gloves of Dexterity. All of the gold he earned (looted, scavenged) went into his bow. At the time of his retirement, "Dignan's Bow" as it came to be known, was a +4 Mighty Composite (+4 str bonus) flaming burst, corrosive longbow of speed. With his rapid shot feat, he could fire 6 arrows as a full attack action, each dealing 1d8+1d6+1d6+10, plus he rarely missed. If you do the math on that he was dealing an average of 120 points of damage each round, from a safe distance! Not to mention, a special ability from a prestige class gave him a 20 ft threat range for attacks of opportunity with his bow.
As a side note, many of our "retired" characters are currently hanging out in Waterdeep working with a gnome techsmith named Shig Dalgorondo, a Techsmith of Gond, who bought some property and formed an adventuring company called "The Company of the Shining Hammer" Currently, Xysma Grymn, Dignan, Chamber Dargon (Ftr10/Rgr2/Pal2/Leg2), Al' Kadar Kha Rhaist (Rog4/Sor7/ArT4) and Halagast (Fav10) are members of the company. |

My two most powerful characters weren't played in Faerun games, but they're pretty nifty anyway.
The first is Kiyearis Leavihri, a female half-elf that started her career as a rogue, picked up some levels in psion after adventuring with a psychic warrior (she eventually married him and they had two children). She was a pretty pleasant gal, but she had a lot of rage bottled up inside of her, so she then moved into soulknife (the 3.0 version, since that's what we were playing) and finally picked up some levels in mind thief (from a 3rd party source book) so she could sneak attack undead and constructs and suck spells and power points out the minds of spellcasters and psions. Her four most prized possessions were her boots and cloak of elven kind (a gift from her elvn father after she helped save his city), her ring of three wishes (with one wish left), and her Staff of Power, which she got in a dungeon. Since we didn't have a party mage and she was the only one with ranks in Use Magic Device, the staff went to her. She called it My Magic Stick of Splodies. In the end she was a rogue 5/nomad 5/soulknife 10/ mind thief 2.
The other character is a middle aged male human, Aurelius the Radiant, who started his career as a fighter after his wife and young son died of a plague, found religion and became a cleric, and then became a paladin. He joined a celestial order of knights and was given the half-celestial template as a reward for doing various heroic things. His three most prized possessions were his +3 flaming, flaming burst, holy, speed greatsword, his journal of poetry, and his Book of Quests, which he got because he got bored and asked a celestial librarian for something to do. He helped defeat a demilich, and then took over the tower it had been living in and founded a small kingdom around it before he died saving the world and was reincarnated. At his peak he was a fighter 2/ cleric 7/ paladin 10 for a total ECL of 23, but he lost some levels and his half-celestial template as part of his sacriface to save the world before he sacrifced his life.
I've had some other fairly high level characters, but these are the most memorable and the most powerful.

My most powerful character was in SoA, a level 14 druid/shapshifter. Not very high among everyone else, but a greater werewolf with a Draw Upon Holy Might cast on him is pretty worthy of attention would´nt you say? |

The highest I've played as was a Lv. 5 Druid. We couldn't get together much so we never got far.
I've been working on NPCs as a DM to put against my player and I'm currently working on a female elf Wizard/Effigy Master (Complete Arcane)/Fighter/Master Thrower (Complete Warrior)/Order of the Bow Initiate (Complete Warrior). I think her character level is like 45. (One of my DM friends loves epics and he got me into thinking about them.) |
May fate be gentle on you! |

The last game I was playing in, we as the players decided that we really wanted to “Open Up” 3rd edition, really play with all the options. At the time, I was playing a Dwarven Cleric. As the only healer in the party, I mentioned the usefulness of the Use Magic Device skill to the party Rogue, and she started pumping the skill up. So I started making wands of healing for her to use.
Then I got killed by a green dragon. Made me into a dwarven flavored smear on a cave floor.
So, while I was thinking up a new character, I was aware that the party now lacked a cleric, but we had 2 or 3 wands of healing. Not wanting to play the same class again, and having 2 of the other players urging me to “Use something with a prestige class so we can show the DM that they aren’t evil”, I decided on the following:
13th level character:
Elf Paladin of Corellon Larethian (Chaotic Good Variant from Unearthed Aracna) 2, Swashbuckler (From Complete Warrior) 3, Fighter 2, Wizard 1, Bladesinger (From Complete Warrior) 3, Champion of Corellon Larethian (From Races of the Wild) 2.
Or, the shorter version:
Pal 2/Swash 3/Ftr 2/Wiz 1/Blsgr 3/ CoCL 2
Really fun to play, and could heal using the wands. Okay, that was a bit of metagaming, but we needed a healer and I wasn’t going to go cleric again.
As far as being a killing machine, I got both Dex bonus AND Intelligence bonus to damage (In addition to strength, although my strength was 10.)
A little Munchy, granted, but not nearly as powerful as the Rogue/Barbarian on a sneak attack.
