Hello,

Just a new poster here dropping an idea in for the goofolk here to pitch their two coppers at, an it please ye all..

As a note, I don't use Epic spellcasting IMC, preferring to use a variant of Living Imagination's Ritual Casting, as described in 'Twin Crowns' and 'Spellbound' by that company. Hence, this is a simple ninth level spell with some fairly hefty costs.

I intended to stat out the 'Spell the Shrinshee hated', the one that she felt was as bad as Halgondas' Overmantle or worse. The name was one I felt was apt.. Please, everyone, feel free to offer comments, criticisms, your own conversion of Cormanthyn/Myth Drannan magics, anything.

Without further ado:

Cruelty’s Caress
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 9
Component: V, S, M, XP, Sacrifice
Casting Time: 1 swift action
Range: Special
Target: Special <caster and one creature touched before the spell expires>
Duration: 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: Reflex negate (see text)
Spell Resistance: Yes

This cruel spell renders the caster immune to death from any cause for the duration of the spell. While the spell endures, the caster can be subjected to any amount of damaging spells, attacks, poisons, diseases or the like, drained of attributes or levels and still endure, till her hitpoints have been reduced to up to -20 x caster level, and still survive, albeit looking more and more like an undead thing with each assault. Likewise, damage, poisons and spell effects targeted on the caster, including energy drains inflict pain on the caster of Cruelty’s Caress, but all actual attribute loss is held in abeyance for the spell’s duration.
For every round in which the caster’s hp or attributes are at lower than -11 or 0<for ability scores and/or level> , respectively, the caster must make a Will Save <DC 20> or suffer the effects of Feeblemind until cured. Until the spell ends, the caster is considered Exhausted, cannot cast other magic and cannot be magically cured or healed. The caster of the Caress is free to speak, use magical items or move <at half her normal rate due to her Exhausted condition> . If the caster sucessfully makes a melee touch attack or grapples another being, she suffers a round of nauseous vertigo during which the being she touched suffers all the damage, magical effects and negative conditions inflicted on her after she cast Cruelty’s Caress. This restores the caster to full health, though she is considered Helpless for 1d4 rounds. If the caster fails to touch another being before Cruelty’s Caress expires, she suffers all the effects held in abeyance and usually dies. If the damage is greater than -10, her body is considered disintegrated, though all items survive. This is also the fate of the touched being should he fail to save and the damage be more than his body can endure.

XP: 3000

Material component: Any magical item worth 5000 gp or more, destroyed by the casting.

Sacrifice: Casting this spell drains 1 point of the caster’s Wisdom. It can be restored by a Gr. Restoration, Miracle or Wish.

Far too powerful andI would not even consider this as good magic spell construction. 17 rounds to make an sucessful ttack and suffer no damaged if note.

Good point.. However, I felt the fact that it costs more than a Wish , plus a permanent drain on an ability score and an expensive material component helped to counterbalance it a little. I'll likely reduce the duration though..I was going to try and match the book, wherein the spell lasted about five or six minutes while the Shrinshee got two enchanted scepters and a staff or two worth of battlespells poured into her. Thanks for the feedback.

Oh, and perhaps I wasn't clear: The caster of CC suffers -full- damage if she can't discharge the effect. Remember, she has no spells and half-movement for the duration. Alsp, she's going to remain Exhausted for eight hours after the spell ends and fatigued for another eight.
