I seem to have misplaced my copy of Simbul's Gift, but from what I recall, it takes place Aglarond--the Simbul's castle in Velprintalar and somewhere in and around the Yuirwood--and Thay, specifically Bezantur and the estate of Lauzoril, zulkir of Enchantment.

*Update*
Thank you, Kameron, Simbul's Gift has been entered.
However, there are still many more books to fill and correct, as above.

*Minor Update* to include book 1 of the Citadels: Neversfall, as well as put in blanks for the rest of these upcoming series.
By the way, out of personal interest, who is writing Bladesinger? I'm interested to see how they represent the class.

Author for Bladesinger is Keith Strohm.

Also, for your updates, Book Two of THE DUNGEON series has been announced: The Howling Delves by Jaleigh Johnson

*Update* to include several newly announced books and update a few older ones.

I'm requesting area information Annihilation (book 5 of WotSQ), the new Waterdeep novel, the Emerald Scepter, any on the 'Pools' series, any on the 'Double Diamond' series, and the Maztica series, from ANYBODY, from great sages to brand newbies. I'd like to get this project wrapped up soon, and anybody interested in doing a java (or whatever program) version of this material set to a clickable world map of Faerun should please put in your two bits here.
I'm actually heading off to university in the fall, so I don't think I'll be able to take care of much more of the project myself.

Well met

Ye heard him, scribes. Let's help Smyther wrap this scroll up and complete the list of locations. I imagine that the City of Splendors novel is easy enough, but i'll confirm once I get my hands on a copy

The Emerald Scepter is set in Arrabar.

I will endeavor to produce an interactive map on this project once complete.

Ye will be missed greatly, Smyther. I wish ye well wish thy studies and hope that ye will return here again in the future. Thy commitment and help on this project has been very much appreciated.

Emerald Scepter - Arrabar (surprise, surprise)
Reth
a sea-elf hide-out in the Vilhon Reach
and the ruins of the ancient Jhaamdathan city Naarkolyth - below the ocean floor.

It'd be a massive project to set up, and it would require monthly updating, but what a great resource AND marketing tool that could be!

For those who still have Hypercard it would actually be fairly simple. Apple, alas, long since decided that since Hypercard was a free product with a coding language writable by elementary school students, it should be a product for which they should start charging more than a hundred bucks. I haven't seen a single consumer-written Hypercard program since then, but for those who still have working Mac IIs and SEs, the project would be managable.

I have a mouth, but I am in a library and must not scream.

Sorry to check in without an update, but I've been quite busy with university (and, ahem, the women contained within). I'll not have time for this much, so anyone is really free to shout out that they'd like to continue the project (with me assisting occasionally).
I've just bought Insurrection? (book 1, anyway), Master of Chains (will try to review in other thread), Realms of the Dragons 1 and 2, and The Rage, so I've got a good reading variety to keep me going for a bit, and then to pop in with areas.
Wishing you all the best in the Realms,
Neal (Smyther)

Well, after a long break, I finally have an opportunity to come back to this somewhat antiquitated (sp?) project. I sadly note nobody has leapt up to continue it on in my stead.
So, here is a *minor update* according to Dart Ambermoon and some recent developments in the novel line. I'm still aiming, as per Elaine Cunningham's and (I think) the Hooded One's ideas, to have this list fully completed (or at least every book completed) and then turned into a flash/java/etc map of novels in Faerun. It's ambitious, and I'm sure many of you have more experience than I have, considering I have nigh on zero experience (or skill points invested in 'Computer Programming' lol). Please, anyone, feel free to step in and help this project grow strong again.

I thought I'd update Son of Thunder with some more specifics: The Fallen Lands, Morgur's Mound, Candlekeep (each only briefly), Llorkh, Grunwald, Rauvin Vale, Newfort, and the High Forest (especially Grandfather Tree, the Fountains of Memory, Unicorn Run, The Star Mounts). Lot of overland travel in this one!

some corrections here

1) Streams of Silver plays in Luskan too (where do you think they were between Icewind Dale and the Evermors ). And in fact it does not play IN Silverymoon but just outside so you might need to include Nesme too. The Tower of Twilight, Longsaddle, The Herald's Holdfast and "The Ruins" are visited too

2) the Halfling's Gem starts out in Mithril Hall iirc, they never visit Luskan in that book but go to Waterdeep first instead

3) only minor parts of The Legacy take part in Menzoberranzan, the main parts take place in Mithril Hall and the Underdark below Mithril Hall

Well, in keeping with my extremely sporadic updates, I have filled in a lot of information given by posters above - my many thanks. There is, as always, one list per thread page, above, where you can read all the updates and old information. Correct me where necessary and add where you can, especially ye of great interest in realms locales.
I'm still looking for people to potentially take over this project from me, if you're interested.

I'm now working on this list. But I make possible to know what novel one have to read if he wants to learn about such an area.
As usual, I do not know if I'm clear enough, so...
Example :
"I want to learn about the city of Lallor, What novel should I read ?
- Murder in Halruaa of course !"

AS I did in my list about inns and taverns, the list will be updated in the first post of the thread I will open. Maybe it will be useful enough to be sticked !
Just let me few hours to change the Smyther's list above and tell me what you think about it please.

EDIT :
That's done : http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9874

Well, in keeping with my extremely sporadic updates, I have filled in a lot of information given by posters above - my many thanks. There is, as always, one list per thread page, above, where you can read all the updates and old information. Correct me where necessary and add where you can, especially ye of great interest in realms locales.
I'm still looking for people to potentially take over this project from me, if you're interested.

Well met

Again, great work, Smyther and I hoped that ye would be able to continue with this project However, if thou art still unable to devote much time to this, then mayhaps Xysma would like to pick this up. He has already sent me a splendid scroll on this very subject

It just so happens that I have picked this project up. So far I have a working Access database including all titles (novels, comics, anthologies, dragon, everything I have in my guide). I have built a query for each author that returns all of their works. I have also built queries for each location that is linked to a novel or short story, just click on the location you are interested in and you get a list of all the titles the location is featured in. I've still got alot of work to do, but it's off to a good start, the database is as complete as my guide as of now (as far as title, location and author, I haven't tackled year or sysnopsis yet).
The only drawback is that I am using Access 2007 and can't share it in compatibility mode because of the multivalue field feature that allows me to enter multiple locations per novel (it's not supported in earlier versions). If we can keep adding to this thread we will eventually have a complete database.
If anyone wants to help, maybe Alaundo could help coordinate it, if volunteers would choose a few novels or stories and pick out every location of interest it could be done in no time.

Well met

Excellent, Xysma I'm very happy to hear this as it's a project which i've been keen on for a good while. I'll be happy to assist where I can.

Any chance I can see a work in progress?

CRYPT OF THE MOANING DIAMOND

The Vast

Outside the city walls of Tsurlagol, below the city walls of Tsurlagol, and, briefly, on the city walls of Tsurlagol.

The habits of the citizens of Procampur are frequently discussed, but the city is not visited except in a brief flashback.

Pages 214 and 215 of FRCS are well-thumbed in my copy.

I highly recommend sticky notes. I had several colors which all had different meanings. And my editor at WOTC was very kind about panic e-mails like "I need a camel. Where would camels come from?"

Once I was done with CRYPT, I really wanted to do a book about Procampur. I rather fell in love with ideas of those districts defined by roof tiles.
