Here's a good first question. I have heard no details about this novel. What can the author tell us regarding it?

Hmmm, what to say so far in advance?

Well, it's very dark (very literally), it's set in the South (Border Kingdoms/ Shaar area)and began with a simple, almost classic, premise which I spiraled into what I hope is perceived to be a very emotional and epic little tale.

Sorry to be so vague, but I've only just finished the first draft and am waiting on Susan Morris (my editor) for rewrites, revisions and so forth. However since this thread has been started I'll e-mail Susan and find out just what details I can deliver this early.

In other news though, there will be a sample of Bloodwalk in the upcoming Realms of the Dragons II anthology in which I also will have a short story entitled "Possessions" . Both of which I am anxious to hear everyone's thoughts on.

(PS: Much thanks to Alaundo for opening this thread, I know I don't have very many posts to my name, but ever since I joined the site not a night goes by that I don't stop by to read the latest. Thanks again!)

Mr. Davis,

I noticed in Erik Scott de Bie's thread that he has a story in the upcoming Realms of the Elves anthology. Will you have a story in it as well?

Does anyone know of a dependable list of those who do?

The only ones I know of that have confirmed involvement in the anthology so far are: Paul Kemp, Elaine Cunningham, and Erik Scott de Bie.

Nope, sorry, didn't get tapped on the shoulder for that one unfortunately. I think I may have been still finishing up Bloodwalk when that call went out.
Sorry I haven't replied here in so long, turns out it is very early to be discussing details about Bloodwalk. I am looking forward to the upcoming Realms of the Dragons II anthology. I'll finally have something on the shelf to talk about!
In the meantime, new secret project proposal in the works, lots of research and Realms history, fun stuff!

Now that sounds very intriguing and interesting. I like the "Realms history" part.

Gonna guess that since RoE is tied to the Last Mythal trilogy, Richard Baker's a safe bet.

I'm looking forward to RotD II as much as you are. I'm very interested in less-known authors, dragons and especially anthologies. It's gonna be interesting to read a story by new and varied authors. Plus, there's the four sample chapters to look forward to.

Secret project? Any slight teasers it's safe to tell?

No prob 'djinn' . If everything works out I'll make sure to leak some more 'teasers' as info becomes declassified.

Wow, I haven't been around here in a while, but here's a minor update. I'm finishing up the final edits on Bloodwalk (way ahead of schedule so far) and could possibly score an earlier release date. I'll update again as soon as info becomes available and the NDA's are cleared.

I look forward to it. I enjoyed "Possessions", I found it to be among my favorites in the Realms of the Dragons II. The inclusion of the Fang dragon made the story seem more "Realmsian" to me, and I thought the concept of the story was very interesting. Any little teasers you can throw out about your upcoming tome (without violating NDAs of course) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words Xysma, I'm glad you liked it. I must say, the Realmsian factor of the fang dragon was appealing, but I'd decided on the type pretty early on just because they're my favorite. Plus, being in an urban setting, I needed a dragon that had a more murderous aspect to it: no breath weapons or powerful magic, just claws and teeth (not to mention that vicious tail).
I believe I mentioned elsewhere that there is a very well hidden "easter egg" in the story that references its "true crime" inspiration. Another as of yet unsolved set of mysterious murders. Check the street names, you might catch it.

Sorry, nothing yet, but while the titular character has been introduced via the sample in the anthology, the protagonist is (I think) the first of his race to be featured as a primary in a Realms book. More on this as secrets are unveiled.

Just noticed the WOTC website has posted a blurb about Bloodwalk that is, of course, very brief (quite "blurby"), but it's the most info out yet.

"This novel focuses on a sorcereress with the hellish magic of a blood magus at her command and a mounting ambition for territory and domination in her heart -- and a ghostwalker’s attempts to defend a village from her seemingly inevitable success."

Not sure if 'sorcereress' is the right word (too many "er's" seems like), but it's the basic idea. Here's the link:

Certainly Alaundo, count me in! I look forward to hearing what everyone thinks of it.

Also, depending on the next couple of weeks, I may have more news on the way. And quite likely a webstory to coincide with the novel's release (since those seem to be getting popular now). More later!

My apologies for doing it, but I have to: "YAY FOR GHOSTWALKERS!"

That is all.

Seriously, though -- this novel sounds superb. Just the little teasers you've given, James, have inspired me to write a lady blood magus into my own campaign (and won't my players be thanking you? ).

Now if only time would get off its bum and pass, eh?

Another ghostwalker...

Anyway, I think it's interesting that the book will be focused around a not-so-nice person.

Well, the original date was set for November, then I got bumped up to July. Earlier than that would be nice, but I think that might be the set date for now.

Thanks for the vote of confidence...and no, use that 'bloody exit' on your players just once or have her bloodwalk just before being defeated a few times and they will curse my name (and your own) many, many times heh-heh! (so, yeah, the blood magus can be a DM's friend, mwahahaha!)
