Dargoth, I found this quote in another topic here at Candlekeep.

quote:
Try Auppenser for a human god of psionics (alignment neutral, domains Balance, Mentalism, Protection, Strength). He's a dead deity, but he was big back in the days of Jhaamdath, which was a realm heavily influenced by psionics. You guys will get to meet him in an upcoming Realms product.

Intersting that there going to detail a god devoted to Psionics (even if he is dead)

Maybe, Lord Ao saw no need to fill that vacancy at the time?

Or perhaps the portfolio has been taken, but it's been covered up by some shadowy god... Oh, the intrigue.

I dunno... It's certainly a possibility, but I don't see an illithid deity grabbing a portfolio from a human deity...

I would postulate that following the fall of Jhaamdath, the idea that the "Invisible Art" was a deific gift or supported by a deity fell by the wayside. Proper psionicists and those with a wild talent or two worshipped other gods and didn't make a link between their powers and their faith. In other words, if I was a farmer with a wild talent I worshipped Chauntea, not Auppenser. If I was an adventuring psionicist, I worshipped Tymora, or Tempus or Mystra or ... well, you get the idea. No other god picked up the portfolio because it wasn't worth it. No-one was 'worshipping' in terms of their psionic use. Of course, YMMV.

I think that would really depend on the circumstances of the particular god's death, and whether or not the supposed head of the pantheon has tight control on the allocation and selection of who holds what portfolio. Some portfolios and domains likely float through the seams holding the tapestry of the planar tree together... laying unclaimed and unsed for hundreds... even thousands of years. Ao seems to be the type of creator god who would have the final "say so" on who gets what and who can do what with which portfolio. So these unclaimed domains are probably remnants of fallen or dead gods who passed from this cosmology long ago...

Are you talking about deities specifically, or any being of considerable might and power . . . say, with DvR 0? Because if that's the case, then I don't agree. How does that explain everything that has happened with Orcus?

Only reference so far. He was created for the newly 'sexed up' Jhaamdath (personally, I like the psionicist angle). As for his specialty priests, hmmm no idea. Mindlords?

Me to

LEOF has inspired a few ideas

My idea

The 4 Elven High mages who caused the tidal wave in Jhaamdath where an informal forunner to the Eldreth Veluuthra in fact the 4 High Mages where the origional founders of Elderth Veluuthra after humans where allowed into Myth Drannor. One of the 4 High Mages who destroyed Jhaamdath was Tordynnar Rhaevaern the NE Sun Elf Baelnorn from Lords of Darkness.

After Jhaamdaths destruction the surviors spread out to found other lands such Chondath and Implitur, and while none of Jhaamdaths refugees have any love for elves, some took it further a secret society Psionic wielding Jhaamdathians with a hatred for elves. This societies goal is to hurt the elves as much as possable. The society eventually left Jhaamdath for a new Chondathian colony which would one day become the nation of Sembia. Today the society counts members in most of the important noble houses of Sembia.

Thats all Ive got so far

Ive got an idea for a Psionic Cleric Prc for a Followers of Auppenser which melds one of the existing Psionic Prcs and alter it so intead of gain Psionic powers every level they get it every 2 levels, every other level they recieve a "+1 to Divine caster level"

Another idea might be to come up with a Prc that bridges the Psionic class/Cleric divide the same the way the Mystic Theurge Prc bridges the Wizard/cleric divide

I'm curious as to how a god dies and no one grabs his portfolio...

Maybe he's just kicking up on his back, pining for the fjords?

Looks a little more powerful then what you first was planning. It certainly can work, though I do worry about increase both psionic and divine ability each level as powerful (perhaps too powerful).

Or Monty Python. :) I'm gonna get smacked with Big Al's stick for this!

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Now, that just sounds wrong.
Either way, I don't think Auppenser can be returned to active service just by waiving a stick. Unless it's the Pen of Ed. Or the Hooded One.

There's something in an old PS tome about the mindshapers of Auppenser. I wonder whether they have anything to do with this.

I'll have to research that particular reference properly before I add anything further.

Priests of Auppenser are called Psiarchs. I petitioned Dragon for a short prestige class article on them nearly a year ago but was alas turned down as a class based on psionics + Realms was considered too offbeat for the main readership.

No, I didn't. The class was also going to be accompanied by the Psionic Domain which did not make it into LEOF (and would have been a prerequisite for taking the prestige class). Now that Dragon is under new leadership which is looking for flavorful crunch, perhaps I should suggest it again.
