Found this over at EnWorld, by Eric Mona regarding Dragon Magazine content
This is what i've been hoping for for a future sourcebook, and this will do me fine And with poster maps too! WOOT!
quote: Articles on cities of the Forgotten Realms by Ed Greenwood. Look for 4-6 of these annually for as long as we can get away with it. Probably about 5000 words each. Meaty. I'm basically just letting Ed go wild with these, and we'll be sure to illustrate them lavishly with "National Geographic"-style fold-out maps and maybe some posters. I'll do what I can afford to do.
Also: Speaking of the Forgotten Realms, I've also got Eric L. Boyd working on a short series of articles on lost empires of the Realms and the items and cultural legacies that remain to this day. Although Eric is weaving these tightly into the Realms continuity, we're trying to make them easily adaptable to just about any campaign.

Someone slip over to Ed's thread and ask him what cities he plans to cover. If NDA is a problem, wait til he's been sipping some egg nog. |

Well met
Indeed, this is wonderful news and something I will certainly be looking forward to
So I ask the question to ye all.... which cities would ye like Ed to cover in his column?
Personally i'd like to see Iriaebor (long a favorite of mine), Selgaunt (since the wonderful Sembia novel series) and Mulmaster (as it has always intrigued me) as my first choices. |

I'd actually prefer some of the littler places like Proskur, Telpir, Loudwater and Tsurlagol.

If there is a just and merciful god Ed will do the article in the old Forgotten Realms Adventures city format
*cross fingers*
My Picks
Shade Enclave Mourktar Menzoberrazan (to be written after the WOSQ series has finished) Skullport (As its not going to be covered in the Waterdeep source book) Neverwinter |

This was my favorite part of the information Rad so generously provided. This is one element of both the Realms in general, and Ed in particular, that has certainly been a long time coming... Not since the early days of 1e I would say...

Where to start?!?
Well I also have wished for more infor on Iriaebor, ever since I one of the Shadowking\Mage Harpers books.
Also, Selgaunt is a favorite.
Elturel, Elversult and Ordulin would also go down great
I'm very excited about these columns, just a shame it didn't make it as sourcebooks.... Cities of the Realms, Vol. 1-6 |

Well Mr. Greenwood might be under NDA, also might be in planing stages so that your question can not be answered in any case.
What might be interesting to know is if each city, town will get thier own article (5,000 words after all might be able to take a few, depending of details provided) which can take a very long time before all posted on this wish list can be provided. |

Oooh... I'd forgotten about the capital of Narfell. With the amount of history for just this city alone, I would imagine there would be quite a bit of lore to detail.
Good choice Vedsica .

I was reading about the the Nars when I was thinking about the cities for these articles. My original thought was shaped by an urge to know more about their domains.

Well, with Damara and surrounding regions involved in WOTC's Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy, I wonder if an article about the capital might not have to wait until after Richard Lee Byers' provides the final installment, which is well into 2006. |

I really hope that Ed concentrates on places that have received little or no 'real' information over the years. Places such as Neverwinter spring to mind. Some of the sugestions, with respect, have at least had an FRA-style write-up which says to me that other places should be higher in the queue.

Actually, there a number of smaller Sword Coast locales that have never received a lot of treatment, even in Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast.
I'd like to see some of those at least receive some mention in these articles.

Last night (whilst I was sitting in his lap, ah, persuading him about something else, during our Realmsplay) Ed promised to send me a reply about the roster for this series. However, I suspect NDAs and early planning stages are going to keep him very coy. I can say this much: he very much shares your desire, Krash, to cover thus-far-neglected places. love to all, THO |

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Ed would write about Heliogabalus or Damara, since these realms weren't part of his original realms. When the Bloodstone series of modules were introduced back in the late '80's, they shoehorned Damara into the Realms, melting off a significant portion of the Great Glacier to do so. I've even heard that the Galena Mountains were frivolously named after a resort town in the Rockies where a few TSR (post-Gygax) execs spent a weekend.
R.A. Salvatore was responsible for developing Damara and the Bloodstone lands for the Realms, and to date, not much more has been said about Damara, Vaasa and Narfell. I'm hoping that the upcoming Lost Empires of Faerun corrects this, and maybe picks up on Steven Schend's Demonlands theme for the area.
Icewind Dale and the Moonshaes were two other areas not originally in Ed Greenwood's Realms. How much information has Ed given us about those two areas? This might be a clue as to how much we can hope to see from him concerning Damara and the Cold Lands. |

Well, Ed DID give us a "campaign-starter" 2nd Edition update module for the Moonshaes, and did behind-the-scenes consulting work on the recent Unapproachable East, so he DOES tackle the work of other creators and embrace it as part of the published Realms. Ed just doesn't want to "muscle in" on settings authors of Realms novels are in the middle of using. He and Bob get together privately at GenCons (with beer) and make sure everything's okay in this regard. THO |

THO sent me a reply to my question concerning if it were true that Ed was going to have articles concerning cities in Dragon Mag,and if he had a roster of cities he was going to do.The answer was coy,but it can be found in Ed's thread,in the novels section, page 79.If you haven't read it already. |
