I was planning to use gem dragons in a bit of world-building, but can't seem to find any good sources. Are there any good sourcebooks that include them, or perhaps a novel? Both crunch and fluff are welcome, though I'd particularly like to see how they've been adjusted with the new psionics system.

for s specific race of gem dragons linked with psionics, see wizards "the minds eye" category: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/psi
there you´ll find several articles about sardior, a ruby dragon:
[snip] Many have heard the tales of legendary dragons such as Tiamat and Bahamut, but few have heard of Sardior. Also known as Master of the Gem Dragons, Sardior is a unique ruby dragon. He makes his home in a huge floating castle, which orbits the world and stays forever in the shadows from the sun. Even though he is the Master of the Gem Dragons, in reality he does not require much from them, and he does not try to guide their decisions. The gem dragons in return, look upon him as the ideal and strive to be more like him. [/snip] http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20030124a
there are more gem dragons on wotc´s site: - Raulothim "The Silent Shadow" there, an emerald dragon: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20031119a - Eldenser, "The Worm Who Hides in Blades" is an amethyst great wyrm, covered in dragon #237: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20030618a - Malaeragoth, "The Dragon Unseen" a sapphire dragon from Dragon #246: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20030423a - Gaulauntyr, "Glorytongue", a topaz dragon from Dragon #240: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20020925a
well... before i try to list every and all gem dragon articles (and probably miss some of them), here´s the "wyrms of the north"- archive: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/archfr/wn

There's not a lot of listings for gem dragons on there (most are Wyrms of the North or in those articles), but the FR dragon database, found in these very halls, has a pretty comprehensive listing of dragons in the Realms.

Hello all!
The FR Dragon Database has been greatly updated since it was last included within these halls. This can be found here.

Tauster, thanks for the help. I've been using the general gem dragon info, but forgot that the Wyrms article held so many of them. Wooly, thanks also, and a belated congrats to Maecenus on an impressive compendium. One thing more: Have they been converted to the new psionics system anywhere? I don't believe so, but I'm hoping some esoteric source has escaped my searching. |
