Aside from the deliciously decedant and darstardly drow, what examples of evil elves are there ? I've noted Ashemmi (Sememmon's lover) as being one example NPC and heard mention of a surface elf who came to nominally worship the Spider Queen (apparently in some novel) but apart from that examples seem few and far between....

Have many here RP'd an evil moon/wild/sunelf ? If so how did they come to "fall from grace" so to speak and what motivates them ?

I'm looking at creating a NE moonelf probably based in Loudwater/Llorkh or Daggerdale and am leaning towards a mutually beneficial relationship with the Zhentarim. One possibility being that greed was the cause of his "degeneration" and the Zhents were well able to meet his desire for finery etc ... but at a cost which has led to his becoming increasingly tied to their fortunes. But I'm still at the stage of mulling over various ideas so any input would be appreciated.

Also this is my first post (I've only lurked and mined for information prior to this ;) so hello to one and all !

Regards,

Sargiel

Welcome to Candlekeep, Sargiel

One evil elf which springs immediately to mind is Kymil Nimesin. I'm not sure of his actual alignment but someone else may be able to look it up for you and give you further details.

In addition (yet again, I know not his actual alignment), there is Elaith Craulnober.

Kymil Nimesin; I've done some googling on him and come up with the following: -

"This was brought home in vivid fashion when King Zoar was assasinated in 1321 as a result of a Sun elven plot. Though Kymil Nimesin the ringleader of this plot was captured and immprisoned, he escaped. In 1371 DR he allied with Lolth and the Drow, other dissatisfied sun elves and Malar the Beastlord to lead an invasion force that brought great devastation and death to Evermeet."

Also on the forums here: http://www.candlekeep.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=772

Which also gives us another two names: the mysterious (wasn't able to google anything...)Eldeth Velutraa and the Patriarch of Clan Nimesin, Dyffros Nimesin.

Interesting stuff :)

Another possible angle for an evil elf could be through association with Vhaeraun worshippers - finding common cause with their goal of a new Elvish Empire on the surface. It seems odd that Kymil Nimesin fell in with Lloth instead of Vhaeraun - Vhaeraun was a bit slow on the uptake there..

Well that fleshes out Elaith "The Serpent" Craulnober nicely :) NE/profitteering ... sounds somewhat akin to my initial rough concept.

Let's not forget folks, Elven Nationalism is a trait that is fairly common amongst elves. It isn't hard for an elf to be tempted by the evil path when they are members of a race that exhibits light shades of xenophobia at best and extreme racial hatred for non-elves at worst.

That's what I like about Craulnober. Though undeniably evil, with a few exceptions, he's ready to slaughter whomever he needs to in order to avenge any slight to the elven culture.

My latest Realms-based short story, about a bard, a paladin of Lathander and the letter of the law, Debts Repaid. It takes place before the "shattering" and gives the bard Arion a last gasp before he plunges into the present.http://candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-debts.htm

There's some other evil elves... The Dlardrageths, before they became fey'ri, were more than likely evil. A good chunk of the Starym family was evil, as well -- to the point that their hereditary moonblade was corrupted by Moander.

The Eldreth Veluuthra, as mentioned previously, are another bunch. (Note the spelling, Sargiel, it helps when doing Google searches )Info on them can be found in the 2E sourcebook Cloak & Dagger, and in the 3E book Lords of Darkness.

And welcome to Candlekeep, Sargiel!

The Arcane Brotherhood's Overwizard Valindra Shadowmantle is an evil female moon elf. If I recall, Lords of Darkness had some information on her.

And welcome Sargiel to the forums.

Well, such things have happened, an elf looking for revenge of their family or loved one can sometimes go a bit too far, and fall out of grace and become corrupt. An example would be the elven woman in...The Sea of Swords...by R.A.Salvatore, she had fallen out of grace when deciding to accociate with pirates to revenge her family that was killed by Drizzt and his scouting crew in...Homeland. So, she is an excellent example...also there have been a few more, in other books, don't remember all of them but there has been others.

Firstly thanks for the welcome

Fey'ri: -

I'd never actually heard of them before - great to see the true potential of elfkind realised http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20011102b

This raises the question of just how many skeletons do the elves have stashed away in their collective closets ...

Eldreth Veluuthra: -

(Spelling noted - thanks. Google is once more my friend )
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20040519a

They sound like an interesting group, though it should be noted that their genocidal campaign puts them at odds with Vhaeraun. While He would gladly see the stunted races crumble to dust to live only in memory, he sees within humankind a potential that could be harnessed and utilised by a new Empire spanning the Night Above.

So it seems I have plenty of possible directions to take with my soon-to-be-created elf.

P.S Valindra Shadowmantle - she gets killed in NWN's !? Truly a tragedy....
