I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and send my condolences to our Russian friends here on the forums.
Today a terrible tragedy occured in a Russian school concerning the activities of Chechyn extremists, a tragedy that is an incredible blow to the already tumultuous climate of our world.
My sincerest hope is that the wounds of this tragedy will heal with typically unflappable Russian constitution , and that the rest of us here at Candlekeep will extend our thoughts toward our brothers and sisters in Russia.
Thanks!

MADNESS! EVIL UNBRIDLED! Innocent children slaughetered by the most cowardly bastards that we have the misfortune of sharing our genome with! There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for this. They say one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter: BOLLOCKS! I'd use stronger language but it won't be allowed here. I have just seen the news and it brings tears to me eyes. I'm almost to choked up to continue. But politics aside, the Chechen fighters have just condemmed themselves to lie alongside the most villianous and evil people in history. My heart goes out to the survioving parents who have to face the horror of trying rebuild their lives. There has to be an end to this. I can't go on |

I believe it would have been a better world, if such matters were not just a few-months-chew for the massmedia and then FORGOTTEN from everyone but the victims' relations.
What's worse, the world has grown a secret attitude: "Has happened before, shall happen again, men can be vile and insane." Being accustomed to such an attitude is one of the things to ruin the world.
My condolences to the Beslan parents, deprived of the light of their lives. |

P.S.
Talking about attitude ... (quoting icq messages, regarding the terrible news):
andreas, my acquintance from Norway: Maybe. Nevertheless: it's a realistic approach to the world. ("Has happened before, shall happen again, men can be vile and insane.")
ivan, one of my Bulgarian DnD fellowplayers: * shrugs his shoulders * Terrorists. You ain't telling me news, it's just good old history repeating. _______
Talwyn, I do hope you and your truly paladin heart are not alone in the world.

Thank you very much for your care and support. I already shared with Talwyn the frustration I feel because of these events in Osetia... Few weeks before two air liners were exploded by terrorists and 89 citizens of Russia were killed. But this time those bastards attacked the school. Now there are more that 100 hostages killed, about 400 injured. There are no words even in my own language to express what i feel. Living in such world of violence is scary.
Thank you again, friends. I am glad to be here with you.

Sylinde, again, my deepest condolences. I sincerely hope that we as a people (Russian or otherwise) will learn a very deep and long-unheard lesson about tolerance and peace...
May it be heard soon. |

I add my condolences to our Russian friends of this keep, and onto their families and friends, Such tragedies are pointless and serve to do nothing but bring more violence, and further atrocities. For every action there is a reaction, 'tis a law of physics, but it also serves as a law of humanity I think. For this action, no doubt there will be a reaction, and in the end, nothing will be served, other than alot of souls to the gates. My hopes go out to all those who have been affected by this, that they may find peace in time.

My sympathies to you and your people Sylinde, especially the victims' families and survivors of this tragedy.
This is the work of monsters...
Yet despite your tragic loss, I already see your great nation taking the proper steps to rectify the situation and prevent a similar incident from happening. Your President Vladimir Putin has the correct attitude: he immediately took responsibility, saying that the operation could and should have gone on better, and that he was going to work immediately to improve the procedures in place to deal with such events.
This war against terror is IMO a defensive one, and I do not believe that any amount of foreign invasion and occupation will ever solve the problem, for "going after them" only results in displacing them to a new location... and there will always be places in the world where evil can hole itself in, regroup and scheme...
The best weapon against terror is peace, understanding and compassion. Racism, greed and isolationism are the allies of terror. I stay positive that we will all one day prevail over our most barbaric insticts and that the nations of Earth, as one people, will evolve over the warmongering that has kept us at the status of advanced animals... and on this day we will truly be able to call ourselves humans.
Peace. |

My sympathies as well; the Uruk-Hai are on the move. I'll leave the politics to the politics blogs (I score rather high on a konspiracy k00k's scorecard... being D&Der/Gamer adds another point "against" me ), but the intentional targetting of children because they're children is a hallmark of barbarism. Hopefully, it can be eradicated. |

I second this sentiment!
Terrorism is only the acts of cowards, especially when they go after innocent children which only anger the general populace even more.
My condolences to those who lost loved ones due to cowardice. Those cowards will get their judgment, if not in this life, but the next.

I guess that no body cares about the four hundred thousand Chechens that were killed by over 10 thousand Russian Artillery guns and dozens of heavy bombers. Consequently, some two hundred thousand children and women died by the hands of the Russian army. So all you care about, are the 10 guys who only want independence that know that the only way to persuade the Russians is to hit them were it hurts most; not about that fifth of a million that the Russians killed.
I dont condone what they did, but there is a bigger picture involved.
However I give my condolences to all who lost a loved one in this tragedy. |

I guess you are referring to the times of Soviets when many people were killed. Well this is a part of history I am not proud for. But please don't tell me that Chechens were the only victims in that time. I bet you know that more than 15 mln Russians were killed as well. Also I know that during WWII Russians and Chechens fought together and died together on one side. Those who claim their main goal to be independence are liars. They want money and power. It is a fact that the terrorists from Beslan were from different countries. Are you saying that all of them REALLY CARED about independence of Chechnya? Do you really believe that? I believe that terrorism is an international thing. Terrorists hide their true intentions behind "pretty slogans" saying that they want revenge because half century ago their relatives were killed in the country-that-does-not-exist-anymore. They lie. I don't hate Chechens. This war is not against them. This war is against the terrorists.

On a historical note: The Germans murdered 30 million Soviet citizens, not 15 million. But that has nothing to do with the Chechnyan situation. Stalin killed anywhere from 30 to 50 million of his own people.
More importantly: No, I am not reffering to the Soviet period... or maybe to the last couple of years..however, Russian artillery and Bear bombers completely destroyed the urban areas of Chechnya, and according to a Russian source I know (and hate) the death toll is claimed at 400,000 of 900,000. Not all men obviously.
You know why terrorism is world wide? Because independence is world wide. The Israelis terrorized the Muslims and the British before 1948 for the completion of the Zionist state. Then the PLO and HizbAllah had been fighting for a Palestinian state. Wether or not the aim of the head of these terror groups is power or freedom is irrevelant. The aim of the actual fighters, those who bomb, is freedom and independence.
I see what the Russians and Israelis, as well as the Americans, are doing as terrorism in its own respect. Wether it be bombers or bomb straps. Killing is killing, and killing civvies is killing civvies. There is no explenation for it if the Chechens kill, or the Russians kills....
In short...they're all retarted. |

Well the number I gave was about Stalin's period not WWII.

I guess we have different sources of information. I have heard different numbers. But i am not going to argue with you.
Anyway my point is there is no goal that can justify the death of children. No matter Russian children or American, African or German. We all should strive to create the better future for our kids.

Well met
Aye, this is becoming a little political and whilst the history is all very informative, I think it's time to put this scroll into the archives. After all, this is a Forgotten Realms library and although recent atrosities and events should be noted, I don't believe this is the place. No offense.
Thank ye |
