The halfling regions in PGtF seem to be very limiting. What region do i choose if im from the dalelands? And why is there not a Dalelands Halfling Region?

Well, it depends. Do you want your halfling character to be more influenced by the local(primarily human) culture of the dales, and recieve the benefits as such, or of a more traditional halfling upbringing.

Think of it this way, dalesfolk halflings can either think of themselves as a dalesman first, or a halfling first, and recive the benefits of one of those modes of thought.

Jinat - the demihuman PtGF regions were all unnecessarily limiting. They simply didn't cover anything like the array of places. One way to fix this is to go against the new set-up and pick the human Dalelands region, or create your own Halfling (Dalelands) region with applicable benefits.

Actually, the PGtF makes the allowance for the fact that some members of some races grow up in areas predominantly belonging to others. It then warns the reader that the region system is a reward for grounding your character in the Realms (::refrains from obvious sarcastic comemnt::), so it's not a good idea to mess with the system too much.

However, since halflings normally coexist next to humans, I'd say they can take most human regions. Waterdeep, Amn, and the like all go without saying. The Dalelands I wouldn't call as obvious, and so would prefer an appropriate background (same as for any character, but in this case also determining that the PC was definately a Dalesman first). However, it isn't as much of a stretch as, say, a human growing up in a dwarven mine.

(And yes, that example was deliberate.)

Races of Faerun states that lightfoot halflings may choose any human region.
