| Actually, you can claim this as a Realms-related topic. There was a long ago Forgotten Realms promotional comic, a single issue that pre-dated the DC/TSR title of the same name. In that comic, the kids from the cartoon (a little older than in the cartoon) arrive in Shadowdale. Presto is looking to apprentice himself to Elminster, who takes him on a quick tour of the Realms. |

Ah that is interesting about the comic, I did not know that.
There was a small humorous reference in BGII inside a few of the shops in Amn. There were portraits of the kids with references to them getting eaten by Tiamat if I recall correctly.  Knowing there was a comic adds a bit more depth to that cameo now.

Uh oh. And I thought I got strange looks when I asked my local bookstore about getting a copy of the Red Sonja DVD...
Nah, seriously, this seems like something that would be very interesting to get my hands on, even if I just rented it for a while.
THat cartoon was one of the things that stands out in my memory of my childhood, and my interest in it was just one of many indicators of my interests in hobbies a s an adult.
I do wonder however, if this sets a precedent, and I might be able to get my hands on a DVD collection of he-man and thundercats... |

As a "really old" gamer I can safely say I despised that cartoon when it was out. At my "wizened" age of 16 I felt it "trivialized" the game and was nothing but a marketing scheme designed to sell more copies of the Unearthed Arcana with its inclusion of the barbarian, cavalier, and thief-acrobat. We were cynics back then and felt that the new classes presented in UA were dodgy. We also didn't like repeatedly explaining to non-gamers that the "dungeon master" wasn't actually present as a character in a game.
I'm glad its been released, but I'll be passing on picking up a copy.

I remember there was a site that has since been taken down that had loads of information on this. I found it about two years and was quite amused. It was also my first introduction to Tiamat.
I think that for a kids program it seemed quite adultly handled... except for obvious clichés (bumbling wizard etc.) and a sickeningly (literally) cutesy little unicorn.
I too am glad its out on DVD but shall be not be picking up a copy, instead saving DVD mone for Spirited Away!  |

I hated this cartoon every time I saw it (partly for the same reasons Sarta mentioned).
I watched it every time I could catch it.
Needless to say, I will probobly try to get my hands on it, even if it only sits on my shelf next to my Speed Racer DVD |

Ahh, it seems like that the nostalgia factor is being tweaked again buy the marketers in releasing the D&D cartoon on DVD.
I remember it, not fondly though as it wasn't a very good cartoon in my book.
Although I have to say in regards to Unearth Arcana, that I found it a reasonably useful source book for it's day, improved treasure tables for example before 2nd Ed came out. |

I coulda sworn there was a more recent topic about this, but oh well...
Among the Easter eggs, trivia, and other goodies, the upcoming release of the D&D cartoon on DVD over here will include game stuff!

What Dungeons & Dragons is coming back !!!!
Bloody Ell! Now I do feel old!
I recall from my childhood through to my teenage years that the DND cartoon and the original (though unfinished) Animated Lord of The Rings Film were always on TV or Video in our 'ouse. I even recently went out and bought the LotR Animated DVD so my son can watch it when he's older! He's a bit young yet not quite 4mths old, Still I read FR novels to him at bedtime, Just don't tell the wife!

This goes on my to buy list along with the complete He-Man series. They don't make cartoons like they used to; I still prefer the Bakshi version. There I said it.
PS. Delzounblood, if you can dig up an old tape of the old The Flight of Dragons movie it would be perfect for your son in a few years. |

Flight of Dragons is one of those movies that it seems never runs on TV and never comes out on DVD either (I think there something in the legal department there, but I am not sure), but it is one of the better fantasy cartoons made. I know it goes for atrocious prices, so it would be if you were lucky to find an old used copy somewhere.
Its a great movie, but not worth 60$, at least not if you know if you will like it or not. I am ever thankful for the copy I got as a present after years of searching.
Now, I will get back to the Realms before I get bitten by a hamster.

I don't recall them getting home during the series... At least, not to stay. They did make it home once, but Venger followed them. He still had his powers, but their weapons were powerless. They went back so that Venger wouldn't be able to run wild on Earth.
But... In another episode, another Earth girl made it to where they were. She was able to see the future in her dreams. They managed to get her back home. | Ah, yet another animated series to add to my "to buy" list. My other half is going to kill me. But, it's oh so worth it. Right up there with He-Man and Transformers. Gods, I miss being a kid! |

I've just found a copy of the cartoon at my local rental store last night, But the wife was with me and we were choosing a film for ALL the family as she pointedly reminded me.
I'll go out later for some cigs and I might just walk up that way!!!!

It's simply called "The Grand Tour". Other, older comics set in the Realms include the DC/TSR collobaorations Forgotten Realms and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, the never-completed Forbidden Sands of Anauroch (2 of the 6 hardcover comics were printed), and a promotional Baldur's Gate comic. |
