i came across an online article that mentioned a "needle of the gods"
it had something to do with Myrkul and the Undying Dragon. It's supposed to be some obelisk shaped artifact.

any help or references would be appreciated

Closest thing I found was the Ladystone.

In other news, I found that liberal sections of Volo's Guide of the North seem to have been directly pasted into the North...

I'm actually kind of glad they're using older stuff rather than recreating it.

also, if anyone has info on artifacts of the realms that haven't had stats published recently, it might be nice to have an artifact list
as opposed to overflowing the "sages magic shop" with uniquely overpowered items.

Volo's Guide to All Things Magical has quite a few artifacts. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

As did the Book of Artifacts, another 2E source. Some of those artifacts were specific to certain worlds, but there were some Realms artifacts in there, and some of the others could easily be adapted to the Realms without much work.
