In the Races of Faerun book, it says that tieflings and aasimar can take a feat that lets them grow wings. That seems simple enough. My question is, if a tiefling takes the feat, do they have bat wings, or do they have the wings of a raven or crow? I know that aasimar get the wings of a great white bird. Secondly, have you ever met someone who took this feat, or have you ever taken it yourself? I only ask, because planetouched of any sort fascinate me.

If you like novels, you might want to pick up Dawn of Night, Paul Kemp's newest FR book. It features a planetouched character. |

They have bat wings. I know another scribe is planning to use this feat(I'm not going to say who), but I'll let them deliberate if they'd like to talk about it. |

Would it be possible for them to have the wings of a raven? That would be a very cool character, and imagine an arial duel between a flying aasimar and a flying tiefling. |

Why not? it's just a flavor change, and would not affect game balance... (except that feathers can catch fire, hey hey hey! ) |

Batwings are covered in fur, and fur is flammable as well. |

I doubt there will be anything revealed about this, at least in the foreseeable future.

For this with an interest in winged planetouched, the following racial stats may be of interest -
Winged
The winged aasimar have inherited one of the most awe inspiring aspects of their celestial ancestors, a pair of glorious wings. This gives them the power of flight. They are thin and slight so as to be able to become airborn. Their wings can be like those of a gigantic butterfly or bird in any shade of beautiful colours.
* Medium size. Base speed 30. Fly 40ft(average) * -4 con, -2 str, +2 dex, +2 Int. In order to fly winged assaimar are frail and have hollow bones but they are quick in mind and nimble in their movemnets. * Sonic and Electrical resistance: 5, Winged aasimar are resistant to the wild elements of their native sky. * +4 racial bonus to spot. Like the eagles and other airborn creatures winged aasimar have exceptional eyesight. * Outsider (good), aasimar are outsiders with the Good subtype. They have darkvision with a range of 60ft. * ECL: +1 (might need to be modified as flight is quite powerful) * Favoured class: Diviner, their disconnection from the earth and their canny sight lead winged aasimar toward the search for knowledge, understanding and insight.

From my personal point of view I belive that the planetouched character should have to state which planar being is in his/her bloodline and then if that race has wings they can take that feat. Thats just my opinion, so if someone wanted wings they would just have to make sure to state their ancestor was of a certain race with the wings they want |

I think this is a very good idea... Also, the character's wings should match that of their progenitor. 'Tis the easiest way of doing things. |

One of my PC is an aasimar from Mulhorand. Now, FR cannon supports the idea that they are descended from the god-kings of yore, so I'm ready to go with that.
Now, I've come to a dilemma: did the god-kings take outsider forms such as solar, archon, etc. Or did they just show up as human avatars? Races of Faerun's Planetouched section requires the PCs to choose from a list of appearance-modification traits, for flavor. Now, if the Mulhorand gods were in simple human form, that would be a big nothing right? no special appearance for the various aasimars living within that nation...
So - and let me know honestly if you think this is crazy - I have decided that the god kings took the form of various angels, archons, eladrin, etc. This is also useful for this PC because he will take the Glory domain as additional domain granted by the Eye of Horus-Re PrC. The Glory domain has a domain spell that has "Archon" as prerequisite. I will therefore allow the spell on the basis that the aasimar has "archon blood," just like a fey-ri has "elf blood" or tanaruk has "orc blood."
What do you think? |

Here's some interesting (and very non-campaign specific) rules for the use of Planetouched, that I regularly use in my games -
• Planetouched characters get special abilities from a list, they pick their powers from one list, which determines their equivalent class level. If they picked all powers from a CL +1 list then their class level is +1. • To represent the fact that bloodlines do occasionally mix, planetouched characters can pick one CL +1 ability from another sub-types list. Their other abilities are determined by their primary type, which is the sub-type that they choose. • Ability modifiers determined by special abilities do NOT stack with each other. • Planetouched types are designed to be full-fledged player-character races, however they can optionally be used as templates, their ECL is Base Character Race ECL + the CL list used + 1. For example base race elf or orc with Tanar'ri CL +2 abilities is an ECL +3 character (base race 0 + 2 CL +1). • Planetouched characters can be of genders other than male or female, they can also be asexual or hermaphrodites, which aren't that uncommon among the planetouched. |
