I recently picked up "Cloak and Dagger" and have been really enjoying it. I am especially interested in any parts that touch on the Sithilisian war in Amn or the conspiracy to break apart Amn into three separate nations.
I have been having trouble understanding the motivations of Mundal Krimmevol. "Cloak and Dagger" makes it seem that Mundal is very invested in the conspiracy to reestablish the Amnish monarchy, since if it succeeds, he will gain his own Dukedom.
I am having trouble reconciling Mundal's NG alignment with his goals that will likely lead to war and loss of life. I have no problem with Good characters that are ambitious, but sacrificing others to elevate your own position doesn't seem like a Good act.
Does anybody have any other info that might shed some light on Mundal's character? Maybe a different perspective on his actions?

Perhaps he simply offered his aid so that he could separate his people from the "travesty of Amnish rule", understanding that they would have to have a role in supplanting the current rulers in order to do so. That could still be seen as noble. Especially if Riatavin had intrinsically different view on life that was different from the rest of Amn (for instance, if they didn't think that wizards should be cast out and could be helpful parts of society). Just because he was involved/invested in that political maneuvering does not mean that his end goals were less noble.
That's with me just skimming page 19 of cloak and dagger mind you. |

As opposed to what? That nice, deftly policed and staying out of trouble paradise Amn is? Even aside of common excesses and backstabbing... If one wanted to find evidence of mismanagement and poor attitudes to justify such a turn, it's not hard. - Amn is a host to Shadow Thieves, possibly the largest criminal organization on Faerun. - Their Maztican adventures started well, but turned to all sorts of ugliness very soon. Even back home their carefree robbery already led to the first Tlinkalli town under Faerun. - The whole Sithilisian affair is easy to see as yet another sign of the Powers That Be in Amn being negligent. - Waukeen at least could steer this hot mess on a relatively sane and stable course. Her disappearance (while it lasted) probably did not help anyone to stay optimistic about the country's future. - Now there are also Cyricists. - The whole wizardly mess is not necessarily relevant, but could easily add to general impression of "things not handled well". - Tethyr was a ruin, yet under competent monarchy came to look much healthier very quickly. Hmm. |

Klack, Do you believe that NG should never start a war? Maybe it could be consider Evil to even want to become a Duke, after all they become absolute rulers? |
