Description
Via is 16 years old and has only taken her adult name 3 years past. The last 3 years she has spent training as a bard. Via is 2’9” tall and weighs just under 30 lbs (29 to be exact). Her wings are black and her eyes are a purple gray…though they look silver in dim light. Her hair is a honey blond. Like most gloamings, she is tattooed in many places, particularly around her eyes almost giving her the appearance of a mask and along her wrists and ankles. She also has an elaborate tattoo down one arm.

History
Ar’mil’via Therwyn was born in gloaming community of Sphur Upra. Born to into one of the 5 founding families, she had both privilege and responsibility, or at least as much as possible for a gloaming. Thankfully, her cousin, Featherwright Mlowen, currently held the Oligarchy seat, and while she respected her family’s past, Via did not want to spend her life each year questing for a magic item so that she could sit on a chair and try to create order out of the chaos that was Sphur Upra. Luckily, there were plenty of other cousins and aunts and uncles who wanted the job. Via was quite happy working as a singer for the mages when they wanted to relax and learning to use her meager skills as a bard. For the last few months, she had spent a lot of time with mages, learning to cast a few spells. Unfortunately, that often put her at odds with Featherwright who thought the mages were gaining too much power. Eventually, to avoid further conflict with Featherwright, Via headed to the surface world.

Story
The Underdark is vile and miserable place, at least that is what the gloaming known as Ar’mil’via Mlowen thought. A thoroughly miserable place. She looked down at the scouting party of drow that had her only way out of the cavern blocked. The cavern was usually unoccupied and as one of the few places where Via could find “black ‘shrooms.” Not that she’d take them, herself, of course, but that the juice made an excellent poison for her little bow. She still couldn’t believe her luck after all these years. The finding of the dead drow, he’d apparently been killed by a kua-tuo but they hadn’t stripped him of his gear, so Via did. The best thing on the drow was an excellently made hand crossbow and a hand of arrows still glistening with the drow sleeping poison. The arrows were long gone, used in the past so Via could get of situations just like this. Via looked around the cavern. From her hidden spot atop the ledge, she was glad she’d dimmed her natural light when she heard the voices. As long as the drow didn’t look to closely, they weren’t likely to spot her. So she listened to them talk; years in the underdark had taught her the value of learning as much as she could, so while she couldn’t speak it well, it was hard to wrap her tongue around all those elven syllables, she could understand the drow very well.
“I still think it’s a bad idea.” One was saying.
“It is not. House Baenre is too powerful for anyone to go after alone. Which is why we aren’t. The whole point of this meeting is to convince enough other lesser sons to agree that way the blame cannot be placed on any single house.”
“I understand that.” He said haughtily, “I just think it’s too dangerous.”
“It’s not,” said the other. “If a lesser son of Baenre dies in a scouting mission and everyone involved agrees it was an accident, then House Baenre will have no one to blame. Eventually, all the sons will fall in this way and the Matrons can figure out what to do with the daughters.”
As they spoke, other drow began arriving. One of them looked at the two standing in the cavern door and said, “Come, this chamber is larger, it will hold us more comfortably.”
“Yes, but does the Matron agree with this plan.” Said the cautious one.
“Whose idea do you think it was?” The other replied as he walked out the cavern.
Via let out the breath, she had been holding. Phew, she thought, that was entirely too close. Flying down, she grabbed the bag of mushrooms that lay on the ground barely noticeable, and still muting her light, flew back toward the ceiling. Then staying high, she exited out the corridor and flew quickly out of the cavern back toward her home.
Once she returned to the Sphur Upra, the house she called hers, Via took a deep breath, and looked around. Perhaps it is time to see what the surface world is like, she thought to herself.
Shortly after the encounter with the drow, Via was hanging around the adventurer’s guild. There she met a small group of adventurer’s who after spending some time in the underdark, were returning to the surface. Via asked to join them and was accepted.
After several days of traveling through the Middle-dark and up through the Lower dark, eventually the group of adventurers arose to the Surface. According to the human, Nikkei, they had entered the country of Thay. Not being familiar with the Surface world, when they entered the city of Eltabbar, Via was entranced by all the noise and color and when the adventurers were approached by a merchant, Via was not surprised to be left out of the conversation. Not understanding the language, Via soon found herself grabbed by the merchant, clasped in chains, and led away. Terrified and confused, Via went quietly with the merchant who threw her in a locked pit with several other exotic and strange creatures. Seeing a drow, Via held her tongue and hatred; she approached her and asked what was going on. The drow smiled weakly and explained that Via had been sold as slave. She would likely go on the auction block later that afternoon, as she was a rarity in the surface. Via thanked the drow and turned away.
Later that afternoon, the drow’s words turned out to be true as Via was brought upon the auction block. Still not understanding the words around her, she was presented to the buyers and soon bought. Her chains were handed to a tall shaven man with tattoos and red robes. He quickly dragged her back to his home and after placing several heavy weights on Via’s feet so she couldn’t fly, unchained her. He then turned her over to another slave who finally spoke to her then, in Undercommon, and explained that Aoth Nulara, a powerful Wizard, had purchased her. The slave locked Via into a small cage where she was kept for many months while the Wizard tried to determine the nature of her Luminesnce. The other slave, a half-drow named Dirt, acted as translator between Via and the Wizard master. Eventually, Via learned to speak Common and Mulhurandi and could communicate a little better with those around her.
As time passed, Via’s master was given the position in the Mulmaster Enclave. This meant that for the first time since coming to the surface, Via traveled with the Thayans to another land. They soon arrived in the city, and made their home in the Enclave.
One afternoon, Aoth was distracted and after experimenting with Via, failed to put the weights back on. She kept quiet until Dirt came to release her for dinner, and then quickly flew toward the ceiling and out the door. She flew as high as possible and as far as possible before exhaustion finally brought her down in a forest. She chose a tree and curling up within its branches fell asleep.
The next day, Via awoke to find a caravan camped below her. Listening to the caravan guards, she overheard that it headed to Silverymoon and that they would have to sell all the slaves before the caravan reached the city because Silverymoon didn’t allow slave trading. Hearing this new location that didn’t allow slaves, Via elected to follow the caravan to the city.
Via followed the caravan for several weeks, eventually, stealthily, she managed to steal enough food, clothing and weapons that she felt less like a slave and more herself. In the city of Highmoon, she managed to be hired on as scout for the caravan. Since she could fly, she convinced the caravan master to let her fly before the caravan and watch for ambushes. Her successful foiling of one such ambush earned her a bonus that trip. Often during the nights, she would sit atop one of the caravans and just listen to what went around her. Over time, the guards seemed to forget she was there and they would talk freely about their plans, dreams, and the cargo the caravan carried.
In this way, Via learned that at the several of the more exotic herbs had been laced with a very addictive drug. The Thayan Wizards hoped sow the seeds of chaos by addicting wealthy members of the city to the drug. Then they would withhold the exotic foods and as the city fell into the thralls of withdrawal they would attack and claim it for Thay. It was a grand scheme and if it worked, would give the Thayan Zulkirs a stronghold in the North. Knowing this information, Via continued to scout for the caravan until they reached the city of Silverymoon. After receiving her pay and bidding the caravan master farewell, Via set about seeing the city. Eventually, she noticed that one of the guards was plane-touched…as she was…so the next time, he came off watch…she followed him as he stopped at the market and looked for a way to introduce herself.
The opportunity came quickly. The guard stopped at the same caravan that she had been traveling with. Walking up nearby, she overhead him ask the merchant about some of the more exotic herbs. Once he made his purchase and headed out of the market, Via flew quickly around to get a head of him, then seeing him come up the street ran full long into him, knocking the guard and his purchases to the ground.
“I am so sorry,” she said quickly, as she helped pick up the guards purchases. She held on to the packet of herbs, “Please, I was not paying attention.” Looking at the herbs, and then quickly bending the package, “These must have been ruined by my clumsiness and I’m certain to have ruined your meal…” Looking up at him. “Let me offer to buy your dinner to apologize.”

She used to be an adventurer but is now retired and enjoys teaching young females how to be a paladin of Lathlander. She approves of Harrolds worship of Nobanion knowing it fits his personality but is somewhat disappointed he did not become a paladin. Harrold grew up in the school and learned how to read and write and the very basics of fighting. Upon turning 20 he joined the Knights in Silver and has been serving Silverymoon this way for a year now all his superiors see great promise in him.

-character description-
Harrold is about medium height but very well built and muscled making him look a bit stocky. He has very large hands but short fingers. His skin is very tanned from the long days on watch guard and scouting. His face looks doggish bug regal giving away his celestial parentage. His nose is almost flat and his jaw protrudes out. He has very short but thick brown hair on his head and also covering his arms, legs, and chest almost like a thin coat of fur. His forehead is sloped and his ears are high on his head and pointed like a dogs. His eyes are a engaging pale blue and are hard to look away from after looking into them. Harrold looks somewhat menacing from afar but really he is very gentle and polite and above all he is loyal; to his friends, his family, his home, and his patron deity Nobanion. He is somewhat shy around large groups of people and big cities, preferring his days on scouting patrol to gate guard. He hates liars and will never trust someone who has lied to him.

Thanks Cherrn. Since your post seemed to be more of a story than the stats, I didn't want to clutter it up. It'll be cool to follow the story along from Dale's eyes.

All right...out of boredom and impatience I'll post my character.

Liya; Human Bbn1: CR 1; Size M; hp 15; Init +3; Spd 40 ft (base 30 ft); AC 13, touch 13, FF 10; BAB +1; Grapple +5; Atk: +5 melee (1d3 + 4, Unarmed), +5 melee (2d6 + 4/crit 19-20, Greatsword); SV Fort +5, Ref +3, Will +0; AL N; Str 18, Dex 17, Con 16, Int 11, Wis 11, Cha 13.
Languages spoken: Common
Skills and Feats: Balance +4, Bluff +1.5, Climb +5, Escape Artist +4, Intimidate +4, Survival +1, Jump +6, Listen +2, Move Silently +4, Perform +2, Profession (Other) +1; Armor Proficiency (Light), Armor Proficiency (Medium), Combat Reflexes, Improved Unarmed Strike, Martial Weapon Proficiency, Shield Proficiency, Simple Weapon Proficiency.

Liya was born to a woman of the Uthgardt Black Raven tribe. She never met her father but he probably wasn’t Uthgardt or she wouldn’t have red hair, it was reasoned.

While her mother Lyssa was away on a raid their encampment was attacked by a rival clan who took several prisoners, Liya included. Liya was 6 years old at the time and she was quickly put to use serving the chieftan of the rival tribe’s wife as handmaiden.

Liya hated them and missed her home. She was treated poorly to say the least despite her tender age. After a great deal of “re-education” she finally learned to hold her tongue and bide her time.

Finally her moment came when she was 11 and with surprising strength and speed Liya escaped from her chains and with the grace and speed of a gazelle made for the forest.

To her credit she actually almost managed to get away. Until Kiran caught up to her. Kiran was the chieftain’s right hand man and was a fierce warrior. He ran the young girl down like a dog and dragged her back by her bright red locks.

The shiner that Liya had given the Chief’s wife was paid back in spades and Liya was immediately sent to be broken and trained as a pleasure slave for her husband. Kiran saw to her training personally and the beatings that he administered were expert indeed, no permanent marks were ever made.

She was finally taught again the benefits of duplicity, as she forced herself to learn the methods of pleasuring her “betters”.

Slowly and irrevocably she began to ease Kiran’s suspicions until finally her “final test” came and Kiran took her to his own bedroll to see if she was “worthy of the chief’s tent”.

Kiran was defeated that night at Liya’s hands, victim of his own lust after a very very dangerous girl.

Taking only her rag-like clothes and Kiran’s massive blade, Liya fled, eventually making her way to Jundar’s Pass and coming upon a caravan there.

The caravan master took pity on the strange girl and offered her passage with the caravan so long as she helped out.

Help out she did. As the caravan neared the town they were set upon by bandits and Liya aquitted herself admirably for a novice with her weapon (though they had to give her wide berth until her battle rage passed.)

The caravan guard captain named Seramis saw her fight and liking her potential took her under his wing and taught her how to properly use weapons and armor. For a price.

Oddly Seramis was a gifted artist as well as a proficient warrior and painted her portrait several times. She didn’t mind but didn’t understand why he felt it was an appropriate method of payment.

In actuality Seramis was quite taken with her and was contemplating wooing her after her training was complete. He felt it wouldn’t have been proper to do it while she was his “student”

That day never came. On a trip from Beliard north to Triboar they were set upon by bandits again…this time members of her own clan, long forgotten, the Black Raven Tribe.

Riding astride giant birds of prey they swooped down on the caravan and made an utter mockery of their defenses. Soon everyone was dead except Liya who quickly ran away into the grasses beside the road. She knew a no-win scenario when she saw one.

Liya ran and never looked back, making her way to Westbridge on her own.
