"The Refugium - The Seven Essences" is a work of worldbuilding fiction created by Biblaridion (a YouTube channel I subscribed to long ago because of an interest in linguistics).

(You may want to watch it at 1.5 speed, as I do, the carefully articulated narrative seems a little slow and measured, lol.)
This Refugium concept is a creative, curious, and comprehensive construct. A rarity these days when fantasy writers copy magical systems which are based on familiar games, on familiar rules, or on whatever happens to look impressive on screen - instead of carefully crafted magical systems which are based on "realistically" cohesive and consistent rules. A double rarity since it also happens to not conflict with other rules of magic (or science) which might exist.
It could easily be adapted into D&D rules, it might even be applied to the Realms. Perhaps as an underlying philosophy for all magics, alignments, deities, planes, whatever? Or perhaps an oddball cult, a strange belief system from a distant, foreign land? Perhaps an "alien" form of magic used by visitors (or invaders) from other planes or worlds?
One interesting adaptation might be to associate the Seven Essences with the seven deities of ancient Netheril, or with the Seven Lost Gods, or with the Seven Gods of Westgate, etc. With seven schools of (wizard/arcane) magic? With seven spheres of (priestly/divine) magic? The Seven Sisters? There's all sorts of sevens in Realmslore.
Any thoughts about this?
Mod edit: Found this one floating in the ethers and decided to relocate it.
