I have heard some rumours about a Forgotten Realms movie being made, including talks with Christopher Lee about possibly starring as the Elminster. Is there truth to this, or are these merely rumours?

What's the source for these rumors? Anything beyond simply fans on a message board posting speculations?
The only think I have heard recently even remotely related is this exerpt from a recent Ed Greenwood interview regarding the FR series:
quote:
Wizards: And as for the ongoing development of a Forgotten Realms television series, is there word on that?
Ed: As far as I know, the "option" for the announced Fireworks series has lapsed, which means it's not going to be made. That does not mean interest in the Realms as a setting for a syndicated fantasy television series of some sort is dead, or that we'll never see such a thing, but it does mean this: For now, don't hold your breath. After all, if a secret deal was signed tomorrow, finished episodes don't just "happen" the next day.
I'd love to see a Realms television series (and even better, dozens of them), but I really, really want any Forgotten Realms stuff on the big or little screen to be "good." No adaptation will be universally praised, but I'd like to see something all D&D fans can be proud of, rather than embarrassed by . . . and if that takes a long time to happen, so be it.

An Elminster movie? I've actually heard more rumours about a Drizzt movie being made than an Elminster one. After all, Drizzt is supposedly the most famous D&D character of all time. |

With all the 'comic book' movies coming out lately, why not a Forgotten Realmss movie? There are so many epic stories from our wonderful authors to pic from. It may even be better not to choose Drizzt, to go with someone less known that way if they change the story a little for the big screen (like most end up doing ) they wont have a bunch of die-hard fans telling them its all wrong even though the movie was perfectly enjoyable Thats my take on the subject anyways... |

This old topic? Come, now. First, any successful book means fans want a movie and/or TV show. (Personally, I think a miniseries covering On Basilisk Station would be nice. )
But second, and more importantly (around here, anyway) -- this topic has already been discussed. Repeatedly, in fact. Just search for it. |

A miniseries covering On Basilisk Station would be something I would like to see as well. However, with regards to a WotC "world" movie, I'd have to say that a Dragonlance motion picture is far more likely than an FR movie. For the most part, this proposal for a DL movie has already been discussed at length between several screen writers and the WotC/SP productive staff.
So while I would like to see tales from the world of Toril on the big screen, the saga of DL seems to be what producers are looking for at present.

I'm glad you said that, Bookwyrm. I participated in two threads like this on the WotC forums, and that was enough to make me want to not see another one!
No offense to any who posted here, of course. It's just that arguing with people over there can make one weary of having the same discussion anywhere else. |

Yes, they do. Though I can certainly understand his dislike of topics that seem to be beaten to death! |

Then perhaps it would be best for Alaundo to close this particular scroll. We really don't want to encourage more debate, when there's already several satisfactory sources of information here.

Annoying anti-flooding mechanism...I've had three different replies typed up on this earlier, each containing the phrase "beating a dead horse" somewhere in there...and then they got canned by that. Hell, didn't we have one of these one-two weeks ago? I'm not sure if I've said this before, but I wouldn't go see a Drizzt movie.

Doesn't surprise me-the Chronicles seem to be cut and dried just waiting for cinemification-they've got the right amounts of sappy love and all that stuff, and are just the right length. It'd be interesting to see how(and who) plays Tasslehoff, and if they acquire any brain damage as a result of the role. |

Actually, judging from the recent discussion that I just read in an chat session, Legends seems to be the main focus at the moment. Lots of historical content, and it provides a nice, interesting background for the world of Chronicles at a later date.
It should be noted that I disagreed with this proposal, although I could not participate in the chat session.

So would I-Legends, from my viewpoint, was written to be a sequel of sorts to Chronicles. It's also filled with the kind of stuff that doesn't translate well to the big screen. Is historical content really going to work for a movie, also? Fluff-oriented gaming products, yes. Movies? No, not unless you're trying to appeal to the kind of people who would watch Lost in Translation or such(Must remind self to watch that this morning...). |

Gah! Repeated topic and a mention of the Dragonlance setting? Poor Alaundo's going to strain his back casting arcane lock as fast as he's likely to snap it out . . . . |

Now if we could only work Star Wars into this thread we could really push Alaundo right over the edge.
.... oh, I guess I did.
Let's hope he has medical insurance.

Even if it starred, Jet Li or Orlando Bloom? I'd list more but that's all the names I recall from having seen previous threads on a possible Drizzt movie. |

*shudders* That would be even worse. I was never a big fan of either of them-and I've definitely seen enough of them recently. |

Well met
Well I suppose it has been worse on occassion
I take a mere stroll around the grounds, a slight break away from my ever-piled desk, and a hefty scroll like this is there to greet my return! No matter, i'll file this one away being as it has been partially duplicated elsewhere and at the request of a few scribes herein. |
