As I mentioned before, I am diving into a history of Iriaebor. Because of that, I know more about rapids and flood prevention that I ever imaged I would. Given that, here is a timeline I have come up with for the first 20 or so years of Iriaebor. I have more than that but it is likely some of it will change based on the parts I am working on now.
189: Unknown: Barge trade along the upper Chionthar river as grown to the point where a few enterprising merchants found a trading post on a small rise at the furthest point where barges can navigate the river. There is already a shrine to Eldath there (next to a small pond) that was watched over by two priests outside of the winter months. 191: Unknown: Eldath’s Pond, as the trading post at the Chionthar rapids is now called, has expanded to several log buildings and a small dock. (Settlement size is Thorp) 192: Unknown: To make it easier for the Eldath’s Pond traders to bargain for the farm goods from the south bank of the Chionthar, a wooden bridge is built across the Chionthar river over the Upper Chionthar Rapids (locally known as Crackbottom Rocks). 196: Unknown: Kredgek Gran of Sulduskoon sets up shop in the hamlet of Eldath’s Pond, constructing several stone buildings for his home, business, and warehouse near the pond and away from the flood prone docks area. 197: Unknown: Kredgek convinces the other merchants of Eldath’s Pond to “contribute” to the defense of the hamlet by giving him money to expand the guards of Eldath’s Pond. This allows the hamlet to have a full score of guards for protection. 199: Unknown: Hlondath initiates the Crown against the Scepter Wars against Cormanthyr. Unknown: Iriaeban Farniddium, an arch-mage of Mhaelos, Hlondath, expressing his disagreement with the war started with Cormanthyr by his countrymen, leaves and relocates to the small trading post on the Chionthar name Eldath’s Pond. There, he constructs a square, stone tower on the southern edge of the rise (fourth building to the east of the Moontower in the modern day). Iriaeban also agrees to use his magic to help in the defense of the hamlet. 200: Unknown: Kredgek and a few of the hamlet leaders approached Iriaeban about using his magic to do something to protect the area down by the river from the spring floods. Iriaeban agrees and creates some 10 ft high levees upriver from the warehouses to divert the water away from them. 201: Unknown: Kredgek, counting on Iriaeban’s good nature, starts to ask more of Iriaeban in using his magic for more mundane assistance. 202: Unknown: Kredgek, since he is “Eldath’s Ponds leading citizen and defacto leader”, stops asking Iriaeban and starts issuing orders to Iriaeban. Iriaeban, in no uncertain terms, informs him of his misconception and lets it be known that if he acts like that again, he will “live out the rest of his days as the slug he is at heart”. 203: Unknown: To assuage his wounded ego, Kredgek starts to spread rumors and gossip about Iriaeban to harm his standing with the residents of Eldath’s Pond. To his frustration, the people ignore or laugh at these rumors. 206: Unknown: Fed up with the raids coming from the forces of the Far Hills Hold but not wishing to expend the energy to clean it out, Iriaeban uses magic to enlarge the small rise where the trading post is located. This shifts the flow of the Chionthar slightly, creating the higher land of the future river district of Iriaebor (it also removes the pond that the shrine of Eldath was built next to). The newly created highland is named Iriaeban’s Tor. Unknown: To help with the sudden change in the area, the priests of Eldath’s shrine use their magic to create a spring to provide water to the people living on the Tor. Since this is near the shrine, new buildings on the Tor were mostly built as close to the shrine as possible. 207: Unknown: To give the guards of Eldath’s Pond a place to keep watch over the area, a stone tower is built on the highest point on the Tor. 209: Unknown: The people of Eldath’s Pond are realizing just how much safer they are now that the Tor is in place. The last few years, the guards have been able to easily defend the town from anything the Far Hills Hold has been able to throw at them and the spring floods have been mitigated by the increased height of the warehouse area. 210: Unknown: Flooding at Eldath’s Pond is more severe this year. The river’s waters rush out of the river’s banks, destroying the wooden bridge over the rapids as well as the docks themselves. Most of the warehouses have several feet of water in them. Both the priests of Eldath and Iriaeban have to use their magic to prevent further damage to remaining structures not on the Tor. Unknown: After the waters have receded and the ground is no longer saturated, Iriaeban uses magic to create even higher levees to protect the hamlet. The wooden docks and bridge were also reconstructed. 211: Unknown: The people of Eldath’s Pond, recognizing how the Tor has changed both the safety and security of the town, decide to rename Eldath’s Pond to Iriaeban’s Tor. This infuriates Kredgek and he takes to calling it “Iriaeban’s Boor” in his travels outside of the hamlet.
Edit: Added correction to 210 DR.

Here are the next 100 years or so.
218: Unknown: Over the last seven years, Iriaeban’s Tor has grown into a village with many stone buildings. 220: Unknown: The church of Eldath decides to replace the shrine in Iriaeban’s Tor with a proper temple so that they can influence the growing community in the ways of peace and to help protect the waters of the Chionthar. This takes most of the following decade for the design and construction of the new temple. 228: Unknown: Peaceman London Wagwiss oversees the ceremony that dedicates the newly constructed Halls of Peace to Eldath. The community was incredibly happy to have priests in the village year-round. 231: Unknown: By this time, two different terms had come into common usage for residents of Iriaban’s Tor: for those living on the Tor, they were called Iriaebens and the ones that live down by the river, they were referred to as Iriaebans. The source of this practice was not known but Kredgek was seen to have a small smile on his face every time they were used. This usage was spreading to other nearby cities and villages. 237: Unknown: Kradgek Gran decided to retire from actively running his business in Iriaeban’s Tor. He left his second oldest son, Magkan Gran, in charge of the Gran Trading Company offices there. 241: Unknown: Iriaeban’s Tor was destroyed by an attacking dragon. Iriaeban was able to fatally wound and thus drive off the dragon but is also fatally wounded in the fight. Using the last of his magic, he was able to send a message to an old apprentice before entering the vaults he had dug under his home and trigger a spell that will halt the flow of time for him. The old apprentice never made it to help Iriaeban because he was killed in route. 242: Unknown: Merchants found nothing but scattered bones and destroyed buildings in Iriaeban’s Tor. Since there were no survivors found, no one was really sure what happened. Clean up began and Eldath’s temple in Duskwood Dell sent a new group of priests to restore the Tor Temple and take on the duties there. It is during this time that the temple, in honor of the people that died that day, was renamed The Silent Hall. Unknown: Kredgek came out of retirement and returned to Iriaeban’s Tor to oversee the restoration of his business interests there and to look for the remains of his second oldest son. He noticed that Iriaeban, whose tower was completely leveled, was not found and used this time to build up his contacts in the new residents. 243: Unknown: By mid-summer, the now-hamlet’s occupied structures had mostly been repaired. Kredgek is able to convince the merchants to rename the hamlet to Iriaebor since the community is more than just the Tor at this time and as a means to continue to “honor his oldest friend”. Kredgek put a trusted friend in charge of the Iriaebor office and headed back to Sulduskoon. He was known to chuckle every time the name “Iriaebor” is mentioned. 250: Unknown: It has taken almost a decade for the population of Iriaebor to return to what it was before the destruction visited upon it. To support the growing population, the priests of the Silent Hall created another spring about halfway along the Tor on its northern edge. This led to the expansion of buildings on the Tor to be focused around the new fresh water source. 260: Unknown: Iriaebor had grown large enough that it had become clear to its citizens that a formal government was needed for the small town. After much discussion by the merchants operating out of Iriaebor and the leading citizens, the Merchant’s Council is founded and its first 11 members selected (the six most wealthy merchants and the five most prominent leading citizens). The security forces of the 11 members were combined to found the Shield of Iriaebor. Over the next several years, the laws, taxes, and the rest of the government structure is determined. 261: Unknown: Moeblur Taetyn, Elminster’s nephew, was caught in a stasis trap in a lost Netherese tomb hidden under Iriaebor. 262: Unknown: The white dragon Cryomantipelica wiped out the mind flayers and their forces at the Far Hills Hold. The dragon’s hunting covered a wider area than what the mind flayers’ operated in. Conversely, since there is less overall activity in each, individual area, the region is more stable than under the mind flayers. 265: Unknown: The Watchtower of Iriaebor, as the tower on the highest point of the Tor was now called, was selected to be expanded out into a small keep. It was anticipated that the construction will be finished two years later. 277: Unknown: Word reached Iriaebor about the destruction of Shavinar. The Merchant Council of Iriaebor decided that more forces were needed to protect Iriaebor from a possible troll invasion. Additionally, the small keep that was the home of the Shield needed to be expanded again. 279: Unknown: Expansion of the Iriaeben Keep was cancelled as no further word was received about marauding bands of humanoids in the area. 298: Unknown: Heavy spring rains combined with the runoff from a larger than normal snowpack in the Sunset Mountains caused devastating flooding at Iriaebor. The levees that had been in place for decades were quickly overtopped and in the end, the entire flood plain was covered in water for almost 2 months. Wooden structures in the River District were completely destroyed and the contents of stone buildings were completely soaked and became moldy ere the completion of the post-flooding cleanup. Unknown: Because of the flooding, new warehouses and associated buildings were built to the north of the Tor in what becomes known as the Lower City. The wooden docks and bridge were rebuilt. New levees were put in place to handle the normal spring flooding. 301: Unknown: The gnolls from the Reaching Woods began raiding the warehouses of the Lower City in Iriaebor. Mercenaries were hired to help protect the Lower City but it was a temping target since it wasn’t protected by being on the Tor or by the ridge of high ground dividing the Chionthar flood plain from the Vale. Proactive hunts into the Reaching Woods to kill the gnolls there were ineffective. 302: Unknown: The Merchant Council of Irieabor decided it was cheaper to build a wooden palisade to protect the Lower City than to keep paying for mercenaries. The Vale Wall, as it was called, was completed by Autumn. 307: Unknown: The growth of the Lower City of Iriaebor had reached the limit of the area protected by the Vale Wall so new buildings started to appear in the River District again. Owners of buildings nervously emptied the buildings out every spring just in case there was severe flooding again. 319: Unknown: As memories faded of the severe flooding 20 years ago, building owners in the River District of Iriaebor halted the practice of moving the contents out of their buildings every spring. 323: Unknown: Talek Talembar, the son of the Shadowking, is able to use the Shadowking’s own magic against him and imprison him in the Nightstone. Unknown: Ebenfar collapsed after the imprisonment of the Shadowking. Unknown: Traveling far from Ebenfar, Talek Talembar spends the winter using his magic to construct the Crypt of the Shadowking at the heart of the Tor in Iriaebor. It is there that the Nightstone and the Shadowstar are hidden.

Here are the next 80 years.
324: Unknown: The Merchants Council of Iriaebor contracted with dwarven stonemasons living in the Sunset Mountains (through their contacts in Easting) to improve the 36 miles of road running from Easting to Iriaebor. This work is completed two years later. 326: Unknown: Paans Nerat convinced the individual thieves operating in Iriaebor to come together to form a guild. Thus, the Flamefingers Thieves Guild of Iriaebor was formed (Flamefingers came from their protection racket because if you didn’t pay protection, your shop would be “caressed by fingers of flame” and burn down). 327: Unknown: An agreement is reached between Iriaebor, Priapurl, and Elversult to improve the 165 miles of Trader’s Road from Easting to Elversult. This is expected to take ten years to complete. 330: Unknown: Given the growth of Iriaebor, the Merchant Council decided to increase its number to 21 from 11. 332: Unknown: It had taken years but the Flamefingers finally controlled all illegal activity going on in Iriaebor. Poachers were not tolerated and were dealt with harshly. 340: Unknown: The increased traffic on the Trader’s Road was too much for the wooden bridge across the Chionthar at Iriaebor so the Merchant Council contracted again with the “dwarves of Easting” to build a stone bridge to replace it. The bridge was built especially robust so that it could handle the flooding seen along the river. 343: Unknown: The Merchant Council of Iriaebor realized that there needed to be a single person that could speak for the city when dealing with the representatives from other cities or countries. This led to the creation of the position of the Lord of Iriaebor and the council selected Eradabus Lanlondar, a respected and well-liked merchant and council member who provided wood for barge, barrel, and other makers of wood products. Other adjustments were made to the government structure (such as the number of Council members reduced to 20) and plans were made to expand out the Iriaeben Keep into the High Tower of Iriaebor. 344: Unknown: Work started on the new High Tower of Iriaebor. It was anticipated that it will take ten years for the entire series of structure to be completed. 348: Unknown: While inspecting the quarry used to construct the High Tower of Iriaebor, there was a wall collapse that killed a score of laborers and even Lord Eradabus. He is given a public burial in the crypts being constructed under the west tower of Iriaeben Keep. Unknown: Within a month of Eradabus’ tragic end, the Merchant Council of Iriaebor votes in Melsar Birk, a respected member of the Council and widely-known horse breeder. Unknown: The quarry where Lord Eradabus was killed was carefully examined and it was determined that it was too unstable to be used. A search for a new source of stone for Iriaebor was initiated. 349: Unknown: A handful of sites were found that could be used for a new quarry. While not the closest, one is selected and work on the High Tower of Iriaebor was restarted. This stone is of a different color so the color of the stone in the completed tower changes about a third of the way up. 352: Unknown: While returning from a meeting with the leaders of Sulduskoon, Lord Melsar and nearly all of his escort were killed by the dragon living in the Far Hold. The tale of attack given by the survivors angered the entire town. Unknown: Harristor Thunderswing, a dwarf commissioned by the Merchant Council of Iriaebor, assembles a force and kills Cryomantipelica, the white dragon living in the Far Hold. Having no plans to take over the Far Hold, Harristor left the area to continue for a place for him to found his own dynasty. This left the Far Hold vacant and it remained that way for years. Unknown: The Merchant Council of Iriaebor selected Saresia Winters to be the new Lady of Iriaebor. Saresia was the Lady Constable under the previous two Lords and was well familiar with the city and its needs. 353: Unknown: Lady Saresia directed the Shield to concentrate their efforts to root out and destroy the Flamefingers Thieves’ Guild. 355: Unknown: The High Tower of Iriaebor was finally completed. 358: Unknown: After five years of going after the Flamefingers of Iriaebor, the leader and most of his or her lieutenants are still free. 361: Unknown: Valashar was founded by Lord Ashar Tornamn, a prince and the fourth nephew of King Karaj Tiiraklar II of Tethyr. As only fourth in line to the throne of Tethyr, Ashar sought another means to power. Over fifteen years, he slowly built up an army and continuously spread the territory under his control, all in the name of the Shoon Empire. This caused Shoonite settlers to flood into the region. Unknown: The Shield of Iriaebor caught a break and they were able to corner and kill the Flamefinger guild leader and two of his lieutenants. Thieving in the town saw a definite drop almost immediately afterwards. 362: Unknown: Ona Yelm, the sole surviving lieutenant of the Flamefingers of Iriaebor was able to fight off a few attempts to kill her while she took control of the Flamefingers. Thieving activities were still restricted as she had to deal with independents operating in her city. 363: Unknown: Ona was not as strong a guild leader as Paans was so there was a constant level of turmoil that prevented the Flamefingers from controlling thieving activities in Iriaebor like they had before. 367: Unknown: Someone got lucky and was able to kill Ona Yelm, the head of the Flamefingers thieves’ guild. Since it was done via poisoning, no one wanted to claim the kill and therefore the leadership immediately afterwards. Unknown: The spring floods were worse than usual. The levees protected most of the River District with only the docks and a few buildings built too close to them suffering any flood damage. Unknown: Several fights had broken out over the leadership of the Flamefingers of Iriaebor. The end result was that the guild was broken up into a handful of independent gangs. “Turf wars” became a common occurrence that, in the end, benefitted the citizens of Iriaebor because they interfered with consistent thieving activities. 375: Unknown: Ashar’s March: Lord Ashar Tornamn, acting without orders from the Shoonite emperor or the king of Tethyr, moves his armies north, reaching the High Moor by late summer of the following year. The overzealous lord had claimed the Sword Coast from the Moor to Shoonach for the Shoon Empire. Unknown: Captain Micklen Raskon of Valashar arrived in Iriaebor to inform Lady Saresia and the Council that Iriaebor is now part of the Shoon Empire. Knowing that talk is cheap, Lady Sareisa began having meetings with the good Captain that seemed to stretching out over the entire winter. Unknown: Prince Azoun (later King Azoun I) of Cormyr finds trade routes to the west blocked by Shoonite troops demanding tariffs for “passing through the empire’s lands.” Azoun orders a weapon made with which he can fight Lord Tomamn; the short sword Ilbratha, “Mistress of Battles,” is ready by year’s end. 376: Unknown: Having gathered as much information as she could, Lady Sareisa correctly determined that the Valashar army was stretched much too thin to be an effective threat against Iriaebor and its defenders. She immediately ended the talks and threw “that overblown buffoon” Captain Micklen and his men in the dungeons of the High Tower of Iriaebor. Unknown: Prince Azoun leads his army on a forced march to battle Shoonite forces on the Fields of the Dead. The over-extended Shoonite army is easily broken. Cormyr’s knights then march on Ithmong, putting it to the torch as a warning to never again impede trade in the Sword Coast North. The Shoon Empire (also called Calimshan) moves its northern border to the northern end of Valashar. Lord Tomamn is executed for antagonizing King Aglond and other dignitaries along the coast. Unknown: As the Cormyrian forces passed Iriaebor, Lady Sareisa had the Shield hand her Valasharite prisoners over to them. 377: Unknown: The number of settlers from the Shoon Empire that were coming to the Western Heartlands and Sword Coast was reduced to next to nothing after the defeat of the Shoonite forces the year before. However, the number of settlers from East of the Western Heartlands had a dramatic increase. 390: Unknown: During the last full moons of the year, werewolves were appearing in Iriaebor and killing its citizens. The Shield was put on high alert during these times but no one was able to capture or kill the murderers. 391: Unknown: It was only on the second full moon of the year that the werewolves appear to have left Iriaebor (the weather had warmed up enough for them to continue their journey to Myth Lharast). Unknown: Priests of Selûne arrive in the town, having heard of the horrors of the previous winter. They let the people know that they are there to protect them from these monstrosities and begin planning for a new temple in the village. In the meanwhile, a shrine to Selûne was built. 392: Unknown: The new temple to Selûne began construction with an anticipated construction time of five years. 397: Unknown: The High Alter of the Moon was consecrated in Iriaebor. 403: Unknown: Members of The Shield report seeing odd shadows some nights. Unknown: Lady Usshu, a mage of great beauty with dusky skin and black hair (people believed she was a Calashite from the Shoon Empire), made a notable appearance at one of the Council member’s soirees in Iriaebor. Unknown: Lady Usshu soon became a fixture of the summer party scene with many admirers. What made her even more mysterious was that she had no quarters in town. When she was pressed, she just said that her home was “merely a spell’s distance away.” 404: Unknown: Members of The Shield were again reporting some odd shadows some nights but nothing bad seemed to be accompanying them. Unknown: Lady Usshu was again the darling of the summer party scene with numerous appearances at parties thrown by Council members. Unknown: Lady Usshu became the talk of the town when a mage new to town called her out for her haughty demeanor and she turned into a dragon during the subsequent duel! She quickly claimed his possessions after his ignominious defeat and was not seen again for over a month.

The next 100 years.
405: Unknown: The fact that members of The Shield continued to see odd shadows from time to time has finally reached the Lord of Iriaebor. Official requests were sent to the city temples for assistance in investigating the phenomenon. Unknown: Lady Usshu once again graced the summer parties of the rich and powerful of Iriaebor. However, she was seen more and more outside of the parties, speaking to shop owners and others about town. Most people thought that she was going to make a push to become a member of the Council. Unknown: Thieving activities in the town seemed to increase. 406: Unknown: Within the first ride of the new year, The Shield was able to apprehend the gang of thieves that was responsible of the uptick in thieving activities. During interrogations, they mentioned someone called The Shadowed One as the new leader of the gang. Unknown: Over the next several years, Lady Usshu graced parties and the people of Iriaebor with her presence. To the surprise of many, she never made the move to get appointed to the Merchant Council. Unknown: Additionally, over the next several years, the thieving activity of Iriaebor ebbed and flowed as gangs of thieves became more active before they were ultimately captured. During this, the gangs kept mentioning The Shadowed One. The Shield came to believe that this Shadowed One had to have some magical abilities and not just someone with some magical items. 411: Unknown: The residents of Iriaebor were shaken when they heard that The Shield was able to corner a gang of thieves and they discovered that Lady Usshu was the infamous Shadowed One. A building was destroyed in the fight as she turned into a dragon again and escaped. The strange shadows seen by The Shield members seemed to stop at the same time. Unknown: Because of the events with Lady Usshu, new mages coming to town (or even just passing through) were viewed by Iriaebens with suspicion for years. 437: Flamerule 8: The calm of Iriaebor was shattered this day by what witnesses said “looked to be the end of the world.” Jakar Orinth finally caught up with Magister Eldrus Wands in the Lower City where he launched a surprise attack. Eldrus, who always kept his defenses up, responded in kind. The “duel” ended with the death of Jakar and the destruction of several buildings. Eldrus teleported away immediately afterwards with a look of sadness and regret on his face. Suspicion of wizards, which had started to decrease from what it was after the actions of Lady Usshu, rose again in the people of Iriaebor. 460: Unknown: Major droughts bake southern Faerûn and cause many forest and brush fires along the Sword Coast. In Iriaebor, there was a constant smell of smoke and the water level of the Chionthar was the lowest in living memory. The Silent Hall’s reputation was further enhanced when the priests there used magic to raise the level of the river to free grounded barges and create some temporary springs to help the area farmers. 491: Unknown: Unnaturally heavy precipitation falls all year long. Unknown: At Iriaebor, the flooding this year was way beyond anyone’s imagination. The Chionthar flooded well beyond even the river’s flood plain which completely overwhelmed the town’s flood protection. For a majority of the year, the flooding turned the Tor into an island. Anything that wasn’t of stone construction was wiped out in both the River District and the Lower City. The Vale Wall, a wooden palisade, was torn apart and washed away. After this situation had stretched way beyond the normal end of spring flooding, some merchants and other residents decided to move out of Iriaebor. In the end, concern about the flooding caused Iriaebor to lose close to half of its citizens. 492: Unknown: Due to the heavy snowpack from the winter snows, spring flooding along the Chionthar was higher than normal. With the levees destroyed the year before, the River District is flooded. However, the water stays within the flood plain so clean up of the Lower City continued unabated. Unknown: A contingent of priests of Chauntea arrived in Iriaebor to help the farmers of the area recover from the worst flooding along the Chionthar in recorded (human) history. Unknown: Engineers were hired by Iriaebor to rethink the city’s flood controls. 493: Unknown: Recognizing that it is going to take years of work to get the farms of the area back to where they were, the Church of Chauntea decided to build a temple in Iriaebor. A merchant’s villa west of the High Tower of Iriaebor had been abandoned when the merchant moved away during the Great Flood of 491 so the Merchant Council gifted this site to the Church of Chauntea. Work began on the planning for this new temple. Unknown: A new, short-term flood control plan was developed for Iriaebor. To help keep water out of the River District for normal flooding, two new items were decided upon: an additional overflow channel at the foot of the rapids to help contain flood waters within the riverbed and a 25 foot tall wall that goes from the edge of the flood plane just east of the Tor to the new overflow channel (to divert any water that overflows the river back into the channel). Also, a series of overflow weirs above the rapids are to be constructed to help stabilize the river’s height at the city and thus protect the Lower City. The city prioritizes the wall and overflow channel (and associated bridge extension). 494: Unknown: Construction of the Chauntean temple began in Iriaebor with an expected completion of summer in 503DR (extra time was needed since most of the stonemasons would be working on city flood defenses). Unknown: With the Vale Wall gone, the Lower City is once again open to attack. Plans are made for a new, stone wall to protect the area. This time, a much larger area was planned for so that space would not run out so quickly. 498: Unknown: The overflow channel, bridge, and flood wall are completed in Iriaebor. 503: Unknown: The Golden Bowl of the Goddess had its consecration ceremonies completed in the summer. 504: Unknown: A significant number of gnomes arrived in Iriaebor, refugees from an abandoned gnome community in The Reaching Woods. Birrammic Thallows noticed how the nightsoil wagons struggled to make several trips up to the Tor so he proposed to the Council that sewers be dug underneath the city. The Council agreed and work began (the Council hoped that improving the city’s infrastructure would have people come back to Iriaebor).

This finishes out the 6th Century DR for Iriaebor. Updates have slowed since I am no longer on vacation.
507: Unknown: Birrammic Thallows, after seeing the flood protection plans for the city, proposed some changes that, with the other items already in the plan, would completely protect Iriaebor from Chionthar flooding. This involved creating larger versions of the water doors used to prevent the river from causing sewer backflows during the spring flooding. The Council agreed to the changes and thus the long-term Iriaeben flood control plan was created. 508: Unknown: The new Vale Wall of Iriaebor was completed. 509: Unknown: The Duke of Cortryn commanded that a trail be built from Eshpurta to Dortanthor’s Landing, a barge loading point on the south bank where the north and south forks of the Chionthar met. The trail took three years to be built using halfling slave labor and was named the Forrest Trail upon completion since it had to pass through the Silent Wood (as known by humans and was later known as the Snakewoods). The Duke didn’t want Cortryn’s trade to the North to be dependent on the whims of the King of Amn. 513: Unknown: There was some contention at the docks of Iriaebor for space to offload barges due to the additional goods that were coming in from the Duchy of Cortryn. The Duke ended up sending Lord Ran Pirkan to negotiate with Iriaebor about giving his goods priority handling over the other barges. 514: Unknown: The other flood plain wall, flood gates, and stone quays (to replace the wooden docks) were completed. The River District should now be completely protected from flooding. This also provided more space for barges to dock so the problems from the previous year were eliminated. 515: Unknown: The spring floods in Iriaebor were easily handled by the modifications made. As the Council hoped, word started to get a round about Iriaebor’s flood works creating a slightly better reputation for the town. Unknown: Confident that the flood protections already in place can handle any future flooding, the Merchant Council of Iriaebor decided to cancel the overflow weirs that were to be constructed upstream of the rapids. 519: Unknown: The sewers of Iriaebor are completed. The discharge system was continually flushed using an intake in the rapids just East of Iriaebor. The rest of the system was flushed once a month using strategically placed cisterns. 529: Unknown: Bimnath Trasp, a powerful merchant and prominent member of the Merchant Council, proposed some regulations around the number and types of guards a visiting merchant may have as part of their retinue while in within the city walls. The Council and Lord Grezat agreed and the new law easily passed. 530: Unknown: Over the year, Merchant Bimnath proposed more changes that also seemed to be excellent policy ideas and they were also passed. 531: Unknown: Merchant Bimnath continued to propose more regulations but opposition to these changes had arisen in the form of a coalition of other merchants led by Haem Lirandar. In response, Bimnath opposed proposed changes made by the “Lirandar Coalition”. 532: Unknown: Over the next several years, the productivity of the Merchant Council became less and less as the two factions on the Council dig in and refuse to work with the other side. 534: Unknown: Lord Grezat began to consult with both the Silent Hall and the Moontower on what could be done to break this stalemate. Unknown: As a result of Lord Grezat consultations with the temples, both sides proposed regulations that would adversely affect all temples in Iriaebor. Unknown: The situation with the Merchant Council came to a grisly end when it was revealed that Merchant Bimnath was a malagrym and the “Lirander Coalition” were all dopplegangers. It was during a Council meeting where High Moonmaiden Vestra Kastnan was speaking to the Council, trying to convince them the new temple regulation were harmful and not needed. She noticed a golden glow in Bimnath’s eyes so she cast a spell that would reveal the true shapes of shapechanged creatures. The resulting three-way melee between the malaugrym, the dopplegangers, and the Council members/guards was not something any of the survivors would soon forget. Happily, the malaugrym and the dopplegangers had developed an intense hatred for each other and thus ended up mostly attacking the other side, saving the lives of many humans in the room. In the end, both the malaugrym and the dopplegangers were all killed. New processes were put in place to help prevent this from happening in the future. 543: Unknown: The flooding this year was awfully bad at Iriaebor. The water level rose until it was just inches away from spilling over the flood plain walls and flood gates. The days of fearful waiting for the worst to happen gave away to relief as the waters receded. The Merchant Council immediately ordered that all walls and gates be increased in height to 40 feet and that the overflow weirs that were cancelled years before to be constructed. 549: Unknown: The wall/gate extensions ordered by the Merchant Council of Iriaebor were completed. Work began on the overflow weirs above the rapids. 555: Unknown: The overflow weirs were constructed above the Chionthar rapids at Iriaebor. 557: Unknown: Word of the devastation of the Duchy of Hunnabar reaches Irieabor. The Merchant Council has the Lord Constable to review the city’s defenses and make any needed improvements. Additional ballistae, catapults, and trebuchets were purchased and installed. 562: Unknown: Jolna Par is selected by the Merchant’s Council to be the new Lord of Iriaebor. The protégé of Lord Grezat, she was the obvious choice after he passed away to be the new Lord of Iriaebor. 570: Unknown: An increase in banditry to the south of Iriaebor prodded the Council into increasing the membership of The Shield and to begin active patrolling of the lands near Iriaebor. 581: Unknown: An increase of merchant losses of Keczullan gold to bandits on the Forrest Trail from Eshpurta spurred an agreement between the Duchy of Cortryn and Iriaebor to base three detachments of The Shield at Dortanthor’s Landing. These troops would patrol the Forrest Trail down to the halfway point between the Silent Wood and Dortanthor’s Landing. 592: Unknown: The quiet of Iriaebor is shattered this night as a contingent of Sharran forces, who were able to slowly build up in Iriaebor without rousing suspicion, attacked the Moontower. Many of the priests of the Moontower were lost before reinforcements from The Shield were able to join in the battle and defeat the attacking forces.

And now for something completely different: The 7th century DR:
616: Unknown: The first test of Iriaebor’s flood protection efforts happened this year. Upstream from Iriaebor, spring flooding was larger than normal but at Iriaebor, the river’s water level was barely above a normal spring. The flood gates didn’t even have to be closed so all the work that was put in to protect Iriaebor was declared a success. 638: Unknown: Word reaches Iriaebor that a large band of orcs and hobgoblins are attacking villages and farms near the northern edge of the Troll Mountains just prior to the first snow of the season. 639: Unknown: Spring brought word that the large band of humanoids raiding villages near the Troll Mountains were back. Unknown: Lady Jolna sent word to the Duke of Cortyrn about the issue and an agreement is made for each to provide forces to hunt down these marauding humanoids. Unknown: Several pitched battles were had with the humanoid band but no one was able to defeat the band. Word reaches Iriaebor that a troll was seen giving orders to the orcs and hobgoblins. 640: Unknown: Word reached Iriaebor that the humanoid band had actually grown into an army led by the troll Gergblagak. Arrangements were made between Iriaebor and Cortyrn to field a much larger force to deal with this threat. Unknown: The Iriaeben forces headed for the Troll Mountains to link up with the forces committed by the Duchy of Cortyrn. The Iriaeben forces, consisting of The Shield and volunteers from Sulduskoon, Easting, and many villages near the Chionthar, were led by Lord Constable Martin Penlin. Lord Sy Takkson was the leader of the Cortyn forces. Unknown: The Iriaeben and Cortyrn forces had just arrived at the meeting point when they were attacked by Gergblagak’s army. Both Lord Constable Martin and Lord Sy were killed but that gave time for their troops to perform a strategic retreat. Unknown: Shield Lord Commander Loplinnakus Espos, Lord Martin’s second-in-command takes command of the combined force and was able to perform a coordinated attack two days later that wiped out the humanoid army. Commander Loplinnakus was considered a hero by both Iriaebor and Cortyrn for not only the victory but for also defeating the troll in single combat. As a reward for his efforts, he was made the new Lord Constable of Iriaebor. 643: Unknown: Loplinnakus Espos is selected by the Merchant Council to be the new Lord of Iriaebor. His heroic actions had convinced both the Council and the people of Iriaebor that he was the right person for the job. 662: Unknown: Burgoras of Imnescar arrived in Iriaebor. A mage of some power who was forced to flee when the Horned Mage’s forces sacked Imnescar, he purchased a home on the Tor and opened a shop selling potions and minor magical items. 666: Unknown: The mage Orlstar Meir moved into a home he purchased on the Tor. Unlike Burgoras, Orlstar kept mainly to himself. 667: Unknown: A magical feud was avoided when the mages Burgoras and Orlstar agree to become partners in their plans to control Iriaebor. Unknown: Burgoras purchased several more homes to supposedly be rentals. However, he passed over several prospective tenants until they were rented by specific individuals. Unknown: Orlstar’s cabal of evil mages was complete. Plans were put in motion to gain control of Merchant Council members by magic or other means. 669: Unknown: The master thief Athchos the Black recited the Book of Shangalar the Black (from whom it was stolen) in Iriaebor to a cabal of evil mages, led by Orlstar Meir, for copying. It is from their various records that Elminster knows the book’s contents. 672: Unknown: Over the past five years, Orlstar’s cabal has been able to gain control of 20% of the Merchant Council with significant influence over another 10%. While they don’t have the level of control they would like, they were able to start to collect a considerable fortune for themselves. 675: Unknown: One of the mages of Orlstar’s cabal disappears. What the other members do not know is that he found out that Burgoras was the ogre-mage known previously as The Horned Mage. Muaj-Burgoras was able to eliminate him before he could say anything to anyone else. 679: Unknown: Orlstar’s cabal gains control over another 20% of the Council. Unfortunately, the cabal’s attempts at getting proposals through the Council were blocked by the Lord of Iriaebor, Lord Loplinnakus. 681: Unknown: Frustrated that they were not able to get their agenda through the Council, Orlstar’s cabal looks for other means. A direct assassination was out of the question since any likely candidates would be worse than Loplinnakus. Therefore, a subtle campaign was began utilizing rumor and innuendo in an attempt to ruin Loplinnakus’ reputation and his power base. 682: Unknown: Another member of the cabal disappeared without a trace. Orlstar puts a halt to all the cabal’s activities and has everyone try to find out if they have been discovered and by whom. 684: Unknown: The cabal does not find anything. Sure, there were some promising clues but each one resulted in a dead end. The decision was made to go back to their goal of controlling the Council. 685: Unknown: The cabal’s entire operation was almost discovered when documents were found by the Lord Constable on one of the Merchant Council members. Burgoras earned the thanks of the city when he killed the “evil mage” that was communicating with the Council member. Lord Loplinnakus and the Council removed the individuals listed in the documents from the Council and banished them from Iriaebor. Unknown: Burgoras was offered a seat on the Council but he humbly declined. Unknown: Orlstar’s cabal met and decided that although they were all now very rich, they still wanted to proceed with their original plan. Extensive planning was done over the winter. 686: Unknown: The cabal’s plans were once again put into motion. 691: Unknown: Another of the cabal’s members disappeared. Paranoia set in among the members of the cabal. This only slowed down their plans for the city.

When writing timeline entries it's important to maintain consistent "voice" and tense. The entry for 691 DR should read:
Another of the cabal's members disappears. Paranoia sets in among the surviving members but does little except slow their plans for Iriaebor.
That's the voice you use if you are writing about historical events. Just a comment is all.

Thank you. I was not sure what kind of tense to use: present or past. I keep tending to write it in the present and then I have to go back and change it to past. |

Here is the 8th century (I think this one is consistent and I will correct the previous entries for the actual Iriaebor document).
705: Unknown: Orlstar’s cabal finally has the level of influence it had over 20 years ago. This time, however, they are able to start to influence the Council in the ways they want. 706: Unknown: Burgoras, in a single night, puts his own plan into motion and kills off all the other members of the cabal. 707: Unknown: Burgoras, utilizing the influence with the Merchant Council built up by his former cabal, is able to get Ammak Stamm elected as Lord of Iriaebor and himself named Dexter Stave and Chief Advisor to the Lord of Iriaebor. That puts him in a position to control the new Lord of Iriaebor who is known as a likeable enough person though weak-willed and not that bright. 711: Unknown: The citizens of Iriaebor begin to notice that the atmosphere of the city is changing. Rumors of shipments of poison and slaves, which have never before been allowed to travel through Iriaebor, become more common. 712: Unknown: Trade passing through Iriaebor from the Trader’s Road begins to diminish. A lessening of trade goods coming from Westgate is recognized as the cause. 715: Unknown: Iyachtu Xvim, having solidified his control of Westgate, begins to expand his influence West along the Dragon Coast. Rumors of this activity cause some concern in the Merchant Council. Unknown: The Shield of Iriaebor gets very little rest this year. Monsters of all types have to be dealt with in and around the city. The temples in Iriaebor are consulted but no one is able to give any good reasons for this increased monster activity. 721: Unknown: Flooding along the Chionthar is once again greater than normal. Iriaebor’s flood protection weirs show their worth again. 722: Unknown: The Black Band Thieves’ Guild of Eshpurta begins their expansion plans. As the crossroads for much of the merchant traffic through the Western Heartlands, Iriaebor is chosen as their next city. 726: Unknown: The Black Band thieves find out, to their detriment, that the gangs of thieves in Iriaebor are well entrenched in their areas of the city. More resources are sent to Iriaebor from their base in Eshpurta. 731: Unknown: The death of the Duke of Cortryn ends agreements between Iriaebor and the Duchy of Cortryn. The resulting chaos disrupts trade along the Forest Trail. The Iriaeben detachments at Dortanthor’s Landing are retasked to guard against attacks from the south. Unknown: Many members of the Black Band Thieves’ Guild get caught up in fighting in Eshpurta. The decision is made to just move their operation to Iriaebor. They hide themselves among the many Eshpurtan refugees coming to Iriaebor. 733: Unknown: Several of the thieves gangs in Iriaebor are just too entrenched for the Black Band thieves to be able to get rid of them. A new plan is created to deal with these gangs. 734: Unknown: Word of Westgate’s reclamation by its rightful ruler is met with relief by the citizens of Iriaebor. Unknown: A member of the Merchant Council dies from being poisoned. The evidence left at the scene was carefully crafted by the Black Band thieves to point to one of the Iriaeben thieving gangs. Since this Council member happened to be one of the group of Councilors controlled by Burgoras, The Shield is directed to do what is needed to get rid of this gang. 735: Unknown: The thieves gang framed by the Black Band is located and eliminated by The Shield. This allows the Black Band to expand into that section of Iriaebor. Unknown: Some trade is seen once again coming up the Forest Trail from Eshpurta but it is substantially reduced from what it was previously. Unknown: Since some stability has returned to Eshpurta, a majority of the Black Band members return to their previous home. 738: Unknown: Trade goods once again travel the Trader’s Road from Westgate to Iriaebor. 740: Unknown: Over the years, several more Merchant Council members met their ends and the falsified evidence always points to a different gang of thieves. Meanwhile, the Black Band has been able to expand their operations out to finally cover the entirety of Iriaebor. 742: Unknown: A disagreement between the leaders of Sulduskoon and Iriaebor results in a change of forces at Dortanthor’s Landing: only one detachment of the Shield and a gauntlet of Sulduskoon troops remains stationed there. While the leaders of the cities may have some bad feelings about the other, the troops and commanders of the respective forces in Dortanthor’s Landing become great friends. 746: Unknown: A Black Band guild operation runs headlong into one of Burgoras’ side activities. The resulting fight means that both endeavors fail but now they know of each other’s presence in the city. 756: Unknown: For the last ten years, the Black Band and Burgoras’ organization have been participants in a secret war between the two groups. Each side would gain some information that would allow them to sabotage the activities of the other. Burgoras had grown bored with pulling the strings of the Iriaeben government and was now actually enjoying himself in this contest. 758: Ches 22: Irri yr Yetanza el Netzirn is born in Iriaebor. She is the daughter of Raslan yn Kalam el Netzirn, a Calishite trader who recently moved his operations from Athkalta, Amn. Unknown: Malcom Dourmug is assigned as the first Harper agent to Iriaebor. Unknown: With the demise of the Ring of Eyes the previous year, trading between Iriaebor and Eshpurta once again comes to a halt as chaos reigns in the lands of the Duchy of Cortryn. 761: Unknown: Now that Eshpurta is part of Amn, trade along the Forest Trail once again starts up with an even greater variety of goods than those seen before in Iriaebor. 762: Unknown: A larger number of nefarious schemes perpetrated in Iriaebor by both the Black Band and Burgoras are ending in failure. Neither side is sure that the other is responsible for the interference. 768: Unknown: The Black Band and Burgoras learn that the group known as Harpers has someone working for them in Iriaebor. They quickly come to the conclusion that it is this Harper that is responsible for their failures. 774: Unknown: Burgoras has finally traced the interference in his schemes to The Southlands Trading Company. He determines that the only one there with the intelligence to be able to come after him is the owner, Raslan yn Kalam el Netzirn. Unknown: Raslan yn Kalam el Netzirn and his wife are killed in a carriage accident in Iriaebor. His only child, Irri, takes over the family business. Most people think it is the family’s close friend, Malcom Dourmug, that is actually running the business. Both Irri and Malcom encourage this perception because they believe that her father’s death was not actually an accident. Unknown: Realizing that he has overextended himself and put others at risk, Malcom cuts back on his activities in Iriaebor. 778: Chess 22: Even though Irri Netzirn has now entered her twentieth year, people still look at her as a child because she is “baby-faced”. She is careful to keep up that assumption so that it gives her an advantage during negotiations. 781: Unknown: Malcom Dourmug gets the first bit of information that would indicate that Burgoras is not what he says he is. The magic protecting the Council chamber in the High Tower of Iriaebor should have revealed if he was a shapeshifter. He focuses his resources on Burgoras. 785: Unknown: Malcom Dourmug realizes that his resources in Iriaebor are not going to provide him with the answer to the mystery of Burgoras and calls in assistance from other Harpers. Unknown: In the last month of the year, Lord of Iriaebor Ammak Stamm dies of heartstop. After the normal one ride official mourning period, discussions begin on candidates for the next Lord. 786: Unknown: The year starts out with Burgoras pushing for him to be made Lord of Iriaebor. Malcom Dourmug is able to delay a decision of the Council so that the Harpers can finish their investigation of Burgoras. Unknown: The Harpers are astonished when they uncover proof that Burgoras is actually an ogre-mage. New plans are quickly discussed. Unknown: Malcom Dourmug is able to use his contacts on the Council to get Irri Netzirn nominated to be the new Lord of Iriaebor. This is accomplished by pointing out that she, being so young, would obviously have to be guided by the members of the Council and not just Burgoras. Unknown: Irri yr Yetanza el Netzirn is elected by the Merchant Council to be Lord of Iriaebor. At 28 years old, she is the youngest person to be selected for the position. Unknown: Irri and the Harpers put their plan into effect immediately after her coronation so that Burgoras is revealed to all to be an ogre-mage. Burgoras is able to escape with his life but he swears vengeance on the Harpers. 792: Unknown: Lord Irri and The Shield are able to hunt down, with the help of the Harpers, the Black Band thieves in Iriaebor. All available information is sent to Eshpurta about the Black Band operating in their city. 796: Unknown: The last ten years have shown the people of Iriaebor that Lord Irri is more than equal to the task of being the Lord of Iriaebor. Her child-like appearance belies her shrewd judgment and iron will.
