Does anyone mind terribly if I take a seat by the fire? I've but recently put down my copy of Silver Marches, and visiting that region is always as cold as Auril's nethers. I'll be filling my chamberpot with icicles for the next week.
Ah, that's better! I once spent a brief period in the City of Brass, and I lost my affection for flame, but spending time in the North seems to have warmed me to it once more (if you'll excuse my pun). Since you've so generously shared this token of Kossuth's domain with me, I suppose that propriety demands that I introduce myself.
I am Whelp, a teller of tales that guides groups of the brave (and, occasionally, not-so-brave) through the various lands of Toril. In some circles, I have heard those of my station referred to as Masters of Dungeons, although I confess that fungal allergies typically restrict my tours to the realms above, so perhaps the title Realms Master would be more apt, in my case. Currently, I am overseeing the travels and travails of a group of wide-roaming adventurers, whose journey has lead them through Cormyr, the Dales, the Moonshaes, and now the City of Splendors. After two and a half years, I feel that their tale is approaching its end, and so I have recently begun preparing for the birth of a new tale, to be set in the Silver Marches (hence, my earlier reading). I have found this vast library to be extremely useful in my work, and felt that it was time that I made myself known. I thank you all for your hospitality.

Well met, and welcome to Candlekeep!
The fire is warm indeed but I bet that you will find the friendship within these fair halls warmer still |

Good Ranger, I have found in my travels that the warmth of friendship and the warmth of a dragon's breath are similar in one regard: The degree of warmth often depends on one's closeness to the source. It is my eternal hope that Candlekeep shall provide me with much warmth of the former type, and very little of the latter.
For your welcoming words, you have my thanks. |

Welcome. May you find the knowledge you seek... and corrupt it to full extent. |

*chuckles out loud* You have an interesting way with words my friend. I look forward to hearing some of your stories. Perhaps you will drop by the inn sometime so everyone may enjoy them? You say you're a Realms Master? Have you thought about starting an ethereal (e-mail) campaign? |

Ugh, Wood Elf, do you know how many PbEM's have been started at Candlekeep in the last 3 months? I'm a part of all of them! I say, give the PbEM campaigns a rest...
Ah, Welcome to Candlekeep, young Whelp (Sorry, couldn't resist ). Should you need anything, myself, Alaundo, or one of the other scribes would be happy to assist you. |

To Salabasha, whose wickedness I can sense at even this great distance, I offer my thanks for the welcome. To what ends I shall bend the knowledge gleaned from this fair library will be revealed in time. For now, it is enough that I should know that it is here, and that such fine folk are available to aid me in my search for it.
To my new acquaintance, the Ranger, I say that I have not considered the ethereal option. Like many tale-tellers, I prefer to keep my audience close at hand, where I can best determine their reactions, and where I can send flagons sailing at the heads of those that range too far out of hand. I do plan to share what comes of my tour of the Silver Marches, however, and perhaps the tale might be improved by the influence exerted upon me by those gathered in this place of learning. |

To the Shadowlord, I offer my thanks for the welcome! I trust, however, that you will take no offense if I do so from a distance, as your name and visage inspire some small degree of mistrust in me. Perhaps, given time, I will grow to look past your rather intimidating presence, but I remain, for now, near the light of this fine fire. Experience has taught me the foolishness of seeking shadows when in new surroundings. |

Welcome to Candlekeep!
We are a merry bunch, though there are a few strange sorts lurking here and there... But they're mostly harmless, so all is well. |

My thanks to you, Rupert! Your name is not unknown to me, as I recall fondly your presence and the wisdom that you shared in a place not entirely unlike this one, although (as I remember it) the ruling body there enforced their edicts in a manner slightly more in line with the teachings of Bane (no deviance, no matter how slight or peripheral, went unpunished). It's name escapes me at the moment, but it was along some coast, inhabited by those devoted to the arcane. Which coast was that, again? Not the Sword Coast, certainly, and not the Dragon Coast, either. Ah well. I suppose that it's of little consequence. One hopes that, in this place of learning, you're better permitted to share the knowledge that you've no doubt hard-gained through years of study. I look forward to hearing (and learning) from you further in the days to come. |

Welcome to Candlekeep, Whelp.
Partake in the freeflowing knowledge.
And, now, if you'd release me...

Arivia, I thank you for your welcome. Since you seem distracted, I'll leave you to your task. The last time I delayed someone from their duties, his potions brewed over-long, and the ensuing explosion cost me my eyebrows (and resulted in my familiarity with the holding cells of the Purple Dragons of Suzail). The experience is one that I have little wish to see repeated, in this or any other location. Good day, and safe workings, if Tymora will allow them to you. |

Sorry Shadowlord I'm lovin' the PbEM's so far I couldn't help it But he seems not interested in them so far so no harm done. Please do share the outcome of your adventures in the Silver Marches Whelp whether you write a short story scroll in the Adventures section or prefer to orate the tale in the comfort of the inn either way I'll be there my keen ears and eyes taking in every detail! |

All of the fun, Salabasha, and none of the luck. That seems to be my fate, which places me, I think, in some excellent company. The lot of adventurers seems to run in that direction, and I find myself brimming with pride to walk that path along with such luminaries (or scoundrels, as the case may warrant).
Ranger, I look forward to sharing with you my tales from the trails (or caverns, or alleys, or any other parts of the Marches the next group of foolhardy glory-seekers I guide choose to familiarize themselves with). In the meantime, as I pour over my lorebooks in preparation for the journey, I anticipate sharing my progress with the lot gathered here. I very much doubt that I am capable of planning an expedition that could not in some small way be improved by the input of the learned group that haunts these halls of lore. |

Well Met and Welcome!!
Enjoy your stay here in Candlekeep. It is a rather inspiring place. And I would be interested in hearing some of your tales as well, as I do love a good story!

Now, now, just because I'm a 3,000 year old drow/shade, one of the most evil and vile people in the keep, and the Chosen of Vhaeraun, that doesn't mean you have to be distrustful. |

Indeed, I too offer (albeit, late) greetings. It is intresting to see more and more bards entering this grand keep. *Raises his bottle of Terran Brandy in salute* We all look forward to thy tales of grand adventure and villianous victories. Friend Whelp, twould be wise to make friends such as myself and Shadowlord. There are some disreputable beings that sulk around here... Like Alaundo! Ah, All are well here... although even like to chosen Drow there are needs for alliances and ... agreements, yes? I trust you will find the keep satisfactory, the drink strong and the company powerful. Welcome to the Keep! |
