So I finally went searching for a 5 th Edition Maztica product, and found one, however, they used a map of someone we should all know and recognize, and gave credit to someone else. The Maztica map is Markustay's work, but take a look yourselves. http://www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/171534

Its not mine. I actually thought it was at first as well, but when I went to the guy's DeviantART page, you'll see I commented on it, and he commented back that I 'inspired him'. The Nimbral looks like mine, but I can't really tell - he didn't post the map at full resolution, thats just a thumbnail. Parts of the Chultan peninsula may be mine, or may be taken from the canon Serpent Kingdoms map (once again, can't tell, that map is SO bad).
And thats the thing - why would the maker of that book, and the guy who pasted together that map (the way I used to originally), use a piece of the thumbnail off his DeviantART page, rather than use a piece off the original map? Its so blurry blown-up in that book it looks like crap. You can't even read most of the settlement names off of it. I get the idea that the maker of the book just used the image off the Deviant ART page without even telling the guy (the only other thing I can think of is he asked permission, but the guy no longer had a better resolution copy of the map).
I recall someone asking me awhile back if I had a Maztica map. I wonder if its the person who made the book - I've never done a (completed) Maztica map. I did an outline of it with just the 'plains' terrain that I never finished. That one is just a copy & paste job (so it looks like one of my very early maps, but ISN'T).
EDIT: You know, the rest of the book was done so well, and the art so nice, I almost feel like doing a nicer map for him out of pity. |

Duly noted. I honestly thought out was yours, and if the artist wishes to school me, I apologize.
It was me who asked for a Maztica map. I actually want a map of Toril to hang in my gaming room. |

Hey, if you're giving out pity maps of Maztica.... Mind looking over some of the ones I've been doing in campaign cartographer giving some tips for improvement? I know they look nowhere NEAR as good as the stuff you and Handsome Rob do, but its a start.... Yes, I have no shame.

Have you posted them anywhere? They have to be better than that one (if you can read it, its better LOL).
I'm not overly familiar with CC. I've played around with it (I love their icon set), but it just isn't robust enough to do everything I want.
And I probably have another map commission sitting in my Email right now... that I'll probably ignore, because I am extremely self-destructive that way {sigh}. |

Nah, not yet. I'm still fidgeting with them here and there. I figure when I put them up with my DM's guild offerings, I'll include copies so people can do their own edits, plus a JPG version for those that don't have Campaign cartographer (and clippings in the actual PDF to show various areas in focus). |

Just saw this. When I wrote the book (along with contributions from many), I found that map on old forums and asked the cartographer if I could use it. He readily agreed but then disappeared on me shortly afterward. I was stuck with what I already had of the map - which wasn't the version I have recently seen on DA. I will likely update the map page at some point...
I also wrote that campaign guide before I knew who Markustay was, or for that matter had any skill in putting together a well formatted pdf. I'd hope to say I have improved a bit since then. |
