                      | As far as I know, there isn't much beyond what's in the Netheril boxed set and Anauroch and Lost Empires of Faerun and some of the underdark stuff. |

                      | I came up with an origin for them in my Jergal piece but that's definitely not canon.

                      | In my realms (non cannon information) they are creation of Batrachi who originaly used them against Fey (Fae'rim - elven name). Their form is of mutated lamprey (or eels) that psionicaly swims through air. As they are equiped mainly to fight magical threats they were later used against Sarrukh in Anauroch basin (Netheries have released them by accident). I haven't properly researched their Mulhoradi presence but it still fits as Batrachi operated around Inner Sea (Sea of the Fallen Stars). |

                      | They bothered the sarrukh and the sarrukh annihilated them.
They annoyed the Imaskari and the Imaskari obliterated them.

They pestered the Netherese, who suffered tremendously by them for centuries, and finally 'fell' indirectly because of them.

They were released from their Anauroch 'prison' by the return of the Shades, and then were hunted to near-extinction by the Chosen.

 Conclusion: biotch Netherese.

 Thats the 'Cliff's Notes' version.
