The title says it all. Is he still alive?

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!” #8213; J.R.R. Elaine intended for him to be alive at the beginning of the Spellplague, but since that event thru all of her plans out of whack, it's officially unknown.
Me, I'd keep him alive. I think he's one of the most interesting villains in fiction. |

| And one the few characters they CAN keep alive without some sort of dopey Deux-ex-Machina plot-device. |

I think someone asked Elaine this - and she said yes as far as she knows. Since he's mainly her character, I'll stick with that.
As far as the dopey still-alives, I'm of the opinion that every named character of the realms managed to get themselves caught in one of those little blueifre artifacts and so can be brought back whenever we want :) |

| I am currently working on a High Forest campaign and part of that is the rebirth of Eaerlann. Since Elaith's great aunt was crucial in the construction of Myth Glaurach's mythal, I was going to use the family Moonblade contain secrets in re-establishing Eaerlann. |

| Then definitely start talking to Elaine. She is working on a moonblade project and that moonblade and its powers are among her to do lists. |

| ummmm..... Ask Ed Greenwood. Elaine used him, she fleshed him out to the serpent we know; however, Ed created him |
why is being a wizard like being a drow? both are likely to find a dagger in the back from a rival or one looking to further his own goals, fame and power

| I can say that at one point in time, before the 4th edition FR campaign guide came out, I talked to one of the designers about Elaith. I won't say who or divulge too many details, but the indication I was given was that Elaith was alive, and at one point was suppose to be mentioned in the book, but then writers and assignments got shifted around. I don't know if that means plans for the character changed, or if his mention was simply cut. Given that not many NPCs were called out by name in any section of the book, I don't think his lack of inclusion indicates his life or death. |

That kind of question is one that Ed likely wouldn't answer because it involves other writers / possible future products. |
