I spent a lot of time on the realms as player, but not as a DM. I have not kept up with what happened there after 2e. I am not particularly for of the spellplague. I know the sundering reverted a lot of that, but in the meantime Myth Drannor was "reclaimed" to some extent, and the destroyed again when some flying city crashed into it.

If I wanted to run a significant portion of a campaign set in current time in Myth Drannor, how useful would the Ruins of Myth Drannor boxed be? I figure I could use it as is, seen as it's in ruins again :)

What elements would you change in order to bring the ruins up to date?

Hm, I'm not familiar with the product but I can say that during the Spellplague and the reclamation of Myth Drannor the elves were no where close to restoring all of it. In many places like tombs, catecombes, and deserted buildings outside the city proper are still haunted or infested with monsters. We see this to a small degree in the novel Avenger by Rich Baker, where the main character visits the city.

So in post-Spellplague Myth Drannor the wards would quite possibly have been broken, not to mention any horrors that were on the floating city.

There are numerous BIG differences, however - the vast majority of the box set talks about the various entities one might encounter there - which have totally changed.

First, the reclamation of the city involved dealing with the devils / undead. They were destroyed. Re-introducing them would be a major plot point.

Second, the mythal has been significantly altered. Refer to the Last Mythal series for these things.

There have also been a couple adventures set in Myth Drannor - refer to them for their effects - both in 2nd and 3rd-to-4th edition.

Finally - the Phaerimm of Myth Drannor are pretty much all gone now. I'd say it is possible that perhaps one or two remain hidden, but more than that would stretch credulity. The same goes for the alhoon and Druuth Dearn. I personally transported Dearn elsewhere.

Which city crashed into Myth Drannor? The primary crashing city was in Sembia if memory serves.

Regional maps for Waterdeep, Triboar, Ardeep Forest, and Cormyr on DM's Guild, plus a campaign sized map for the North

Events in The Herald, together with subsequent lore (such as this: http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/after-fall, and Ed's posts here) mean thatthere are quite a few changes, including:

- The remains of Shade, pancaked on top of the central part of Myth Drannor. Lots of new loot!

- The Tree of Souls, sticking up through the rubble like a spike, protected by baelnorn and living elves.

- Roaming monsters left over from the siege (having been teleported in by Elminster to cause mischief among the Shadovar)

- Roaming bands of Sembian mercenaries, the survivors of the batlle.

- Small patrols (and bases?) of elves, keeping an eye on things & protecting the Tree of Souls. Plus, the main contingent of surviving elves based in Semberholme.

- Fewer baelnorn (?). A lot of them got wiped out in The Herald

Didn't they crash shade into rift in Sembia? If not I need to re-read :)

Myth Drannor was restored before the Spellplague, but then Shade fell on it (though apparently only a portion, so some of the city still remains).

I purchased The Last Mythal to get a better handle on things, it's still yet to be delivered (and read). I have another question, has the Arm of Valor from the Ruins of Myth Drannor boxed set been found in the novels?

The arm of valor has only been in the adventure from the Ruins Box. Same with the Crown of Stars from the same book. The Arm is one of the only series items published - along with those from an article from Dragon Magazine (and later referred to here and there in realms lore). Another "power arm" was mentioned to be in the possession of the Harpers. I once considered making eight arms, each dedicated to one of the virtues from the Ultima Games: Valor, Honor, Justice, Humility, Compassion, Spirituality, Honesty and Sacrifice. I gave up on the idea because I wasn't creative enough to come up with them.

I've come up with two further "series" items. Both rest in the hands of Eric Boyd however and aren't "out there". They are fun to do when you put a little history in with each piece.

There is the Last Mythal, and then I would read the Herald, which is also part of the Sundering series. Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide doesn't give much detail, but it may help a little.
