So i was trawling some of the realms lore when i came upon a strange beast, a magical experiment gone wrong which escaped the dungeons of the darkhold only to then go on a rampage through the far hills. A beast known as the Render.
I was so amused by what i read i factored it into my campaign, which is set in the sunset vale, with my party having a horrific encounter with the render in a small village in the hills called Dragons gate (which i know is in the hills, but have no information about).
As my group is playing 5e, i used the base statistics of a Nalfeshnee to portray the Render and its sheer damage output, having it fly around off the ground like some horrible wendigo while radiating its horror nimbus. The original description of a 9 foot tall bestial hybrid monster with short black fur and 9 inch long blood caked claws remained. It killed a number of bandits the party had llied up with (for mutual survival) in the village before nearly dropping three of the characters and causing all manner of destruction to the Inn, the wagon house and the now body strewn village green before the party managed to subdue it. There was alot of gore, and fear, it was a very good prelude session to Hallowe.. i mean.. the midwinter festival. ehem. i forgot myself.
At the point where they had the beast down but not out, a Zhentilar patrol arrived, man catchers, disciplined infantry and all (think Ingen corp from Jurassic park arriving to capture its Trex) and demanded they not kill it, but instead let them collar it. They assuaged to the Zhents, and the dark wizards slapped a collar on the half conscious beast containing its demonic essence back within its host - a half elf prisoner, who was also a Harper (I used Leosin Erlathnar from horde of the dragon-queen).
My question to you is - have any of you portrayed the Render before, or know who the actual prisoner it was made from is in the Lore?

The Render is described in some detail in the Ruins of Zhentil Keep product (including its own Monstrous Compendium entry). |

It was originally a unique critter, but later Realmslore inexplicably added more of them. |
