I'm hoping one of you enlightened sages can identify a book for me based on plot. I read it approximately 20 years ago.
Plot: there is a young hero who is a mage, a cleric, or a clericmage (he may have started out as a hedge wizard). As his power grows he creates a pocket plane (maybe a shadow Sunland) to guard something... he is a good guy but he uses gargoyles or shadow gargoyles as one of the layers of defense.
Do you know it?
