Just wondering. I used to love that battle horrors and helmed horrors healed via magic missiles back in 2nd edition. When they took that away in 3rd edition, they made helmed horrors less special in my eyes (granted, they did give them a special weapon).... though the air walking was still there.
That all being said, golems are pretty much immune to magic, but are there any golems/constructs who gained power by converting spells cast at them into some form of energy? Maybe they could store the energy similar to an old spelltrap spell. Even just if you had to power them up each day by releasing spell energy into them like they have a battery (that would maybe make for a cheap way for a player to create a golem if its motive energy drains over time and has to be renewed with magic..... maybe using a cantrip allows it to work for 10 rounds, but a 1st level spell lasts an hour, 2nd level 3 hours, 3rd level 6 hours, etc...). Anyway, just wondering if there was anything basically like this in the past when someone mentioned basal golems in another thread. I don't recall it personally.

Mechanically speaking, I'm not sure.
But the Ancient Cormanthyr Empire (and later salvaged by the Daemonfey during the Cormanthor War) did use arcane golemns. I don't recall if it was ever explicitly stated, but given how the Elves treat magic, make use of it, the trouble these golemns gave a magic-heavy army of crusading elves.....I'd say it's very likely something that exists in lore. |

As I recall, metagolems gained energy from electrical attacks.
Metagolems are way powerful golems for Spelljammer; I think they originated in Polyhedron. |

Ah, thank you Wooly. I figured someone had to have thought up the idea previously. Looks like it was dragon 159, which has a lot of interesting spelljammer stuff..... color me sidetracked. |

My bad. There was also a Polyhedron, around the same time, that had some Spelljammer material.
I think that issue of Dragon was the one that put the Rock of Bral in the Tears of Selūne, and I know that was the first place we saw mention of Gamalon Idogyr, who Steven later made a noble in Tethyr and then used in the novel Blackstaff. |
