Hello! So! I've been trying to dive into the Forgotten Realms books as my interest was piqued due to a campaign I'm involved in.
I've read the Avatar series (Shadowdale, Tantras, Waterdeep, Prince of Lies, and Trial of Cyric) and am halfway through Canticle, intending to read the Clerical Quintet in its entirety. Any suggestions on where to go from there?

Do you have a particular geographical area you would like to see? Or a character class (wizard, warrior, etc) you would like to see a story about? |

You can really start anywhere. Some of the trilogies/series connect to each other, but many don't. However, the more Realms novels you read, the greater your understanding of the setting as a whole, which is really fun. |

Evermeet: Island of Elves is a great source of history of the elves, if you're interested in that. Really, any books by Elaine Cunningham are good. Note that these are all older series. The Comyr books are good for history, too. |

I would recommend the Finder's Stone trilogy, as well as Paul S. Kemp's Erevis Cale novels. And, as Corellon'sDevout has already suggested, anything by Elaine Cunningham. |

Okay! I'll go on a library run sometime this week. This is so exciting. I can't wait to learn more! |

Hmm So Elaine Cunningham's books seem to be highly rated. Which of her books would you recommend as a "Realms Starter" book?
(I know enough about the FR setting within the D&D game. But next to nothing as far as paperback Realms novels go). |

Well, I would recommend starting with Elfshadow, the first book in Elaine Cunningham's Songs and Swords series, and, as far as I know, the first FR novel Elaine ever wrote. It is easily one of the best FR novels ever, IMHO. |

I got that for Christmas 1991, and read the entire book that same day. There aren't a huge number of books I can say I first read in one day, but they were all books I just couldn't put down. |
