Just finished Star of Cursrah and was very unimpressed by it. The idea of the two interwoven stories is a good one, but the way the book is written I'm afraid I have to say that it completely failed to grab me, making the reading of a book I could have finished in three hours take a week... Ah well, it's just a book.

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

That was one I rather enjoyed, though it took a bit to get into it...

I don't know when I'll have time to read it, but I stumbled across a copy of Jewel Of Turmish today in Orlando.

I actually liked that novel. It has been quite a while since I read it so I forgot most of the story line though but as I recall it was not bad.

Well, I have finally almost completed my collection. I found a copy of the Nether Scroll on Ebay, which means all I have left is Black Wolf from the Sembia series and my collection is complete. The lowest price I have found that book for online is 50 bucks! Luckily, a friend of mine has it, and I think he's giving me his copy. So that's really all of the novels, all 3ed products, both of the Forbidden Sands of Anauroch, and most of the Forgotten Realms comics. Now I can focus on the remaining comics and the 2nd ed stuff. As far as reading goes, I finished Midnight's Mask, Whisper of Waves, The Abduction, The Paladins, Escape from Undermountain, The Grand Tour, Forbidden Sands of Anauroch part 1, and I've started on Son of Thunder.

So what did you think of them? Of the ones you've listed, I've only read 'The Alabaster Staff' (which I enjoyed tremendously - a really unusual (to me at any rate) setting and a story that ties in directly with Realms history) and 'The Black Bouquet', which I thought was alright but not particularly outstanding. All the others are on my 'to read' pile, which, needless to say, is touching the ceiling at the moment!

Yours,

JDD

I liked them all but some where obviously better than others.

*possible mini spoilers*

I liked the Crimson Gold because it brought Tazi back out from the Sembia series and I got to read more about Thay and The Zulkir of Necromancy which is one of my favorite relams characters althought I know little about him.

I thought the Black Bouqet was pretty good but I disliked the item all the rogues were after. I thought it was kind of all for nothing but I liked all the allaince shifting. The shar monk was an interestign character to read about as well.

I really enjoyed the first two Year of the rogue dragon novels. Although I foudn myself wondering what a couple of the dragons were because I don't have source books and lack the realmslore. It was either called a bone dragon or a skull dragon, forgive me for not remembering which ,it is late. I really liekd some of the characters because they were a few of them were unusual. A half golem, a song dragon, and an artic dwarf. Also I was very interested in the cult of the dragon and Sammaster. I would recommend them.

I liked Ghostwalker but there were a few things that irked me. The main character, Walker, seemed to have inconsistant fighting abilities. He would take down one foe with ease and then fight someone else of equal or lesser skill and he would have a tough time of it. Tehre was a trio of knights from Silvery moon that two of which did not act very much like typicial knights and that kind of threw me off too.

The yellow silk was alright as well. It had its ups and downs.

I haven't posted in a while, but after Sword Play I went on to read the next 2 books in the Netheril Trilogy. I really enjoyed book 2 as it went through the downfall of Netheril in good detail. Book 3 went off too much into that barbarian lifestyle for my liking though. Maybe it's just me and my stereotypical view of Netheril though (being the enclaves and mages).

I've also read Ghostwalker (loved it!! Posted my comments in the book club), Elminster: The Making of a Mage (This was MUCH more enjoyable than i'd expected and it was great to read how Elminster came to be a Chosen of Mystra) and Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (It was ok. Nothing special. The story was too linear and quest-based and read just like an adventure or the computer game on which it is based - "travel to location A, get item D to give Character X who gives you the key to room Y to get artifact K to kill creature .... you get the idea).

I'm now reading Son of Thunder

I'm still way behind on Realms novels... I finally started reading the most recent Drizzt trilogy. I put it down, though, because of Realms of the Elves. I want to be reading the newest Realms novel for the first time in a long time!

When I'm done with the anthology, I'll get back to the Drizzt books. And then, now that the last book is finally out in paperback, I can start reading the War of the Spider Queen books.

***SPOILERS FOR GHOSTWALKER***

Hey Beezy -- I was curious:

Are you referring to Walker's fights with his murderers vs. fights with others, or do you mean this more generally?

To explain, one of the hallmarks of the ghostwalker prestige class is painful reckoning, which gives considerable bonuses against past foes who seriously wounded (or even killed) the ghostwalker.

In Walker's case, this "ghostly power" infuses him when he recollects his treatment at the hands of Drex, Torlic, etc., and results in lots of spectacular death. So, if he's fighting along and he seems decent though not really great, then goes into this amazing, supernatural style with glacially cold focus -- then that would be why.

But, if you mean it more generally, I'd be curious to know which fights you're thinking of, that I might examine and address it in future work.

Cheers,

Erik

I'm halting most of my other reading at the moment... mainly because I want to concentrate on Murray's Son of Thunder book, and then be completely free to move straight into Realms of the Elves.

You nailed what I meant. I don't own any source books or play D&D so I had no idea a Ghostwalker was a prestiege class and the abilities said class has. Now I look foolish (what else is new). Also I did not mean any disrepect if you took it as such. But thanks for clearing that up for me.

Oh heck no -- I just saw your comment and said "Ah! A mistake in my writing I can fix?" and probed to see what advice I could glean. :) I absolutely didn't take any offense -- I'm glad that you asked!

I tried to make it make pretty good sense why he had powers against his special foes, but not necessarily against just anyone. Perhaps I could have made it clearer, about that ability. . . Hmm. . .

Cheers

Just received Ghostwalker, Son of Thunder, and Realms of the Elves. So my reading-material for the next week is booked.

There is a rumour going around that I have found god. I think is unlikely because I have enough difficulty finding my keys, and there is empirical evidence that they exist.

I'm still waiting for Son of Thunder... .

The only good thing about the wait... is that I've been able to work through my considerable backlog of various other works.

Well of course. Even when my conscious don't feel like making them, my subconscious sneaks them in

I just finally got the last book of WotSQ, so I'm starting that now. I picked up Son of Thunder and Realms of the Elves at the same time. I still have Queen of the Depths sitting on my shelf, as well as the first two book of the Last Mythal books. I'm waiting for the last book to be put out before I start those. I have lots to look forward too. ^_^

I've taken a bit of a break from reading, but I'll probably start again soon. I've cracked open The Lost Library of Cormanthyr, and I plan to read the newly released novels afterward. :)

I finished a re-read of Venom's Taste earlier this week. I'm now in the middle of a re-read of book II of the House of Serpent series, Viper's Kiss. I should be finished with that in the next couple of days which will be perfect timing as if the online tracking of my shipment is correct, I'll have Vanity's Brood in my hands early next week.

Who do you order through? I always seem to get my items I pre ordered like a week sometimes two after the book has been released.
