I'm going to read the Transitions trilogy after about 10 years without reading any Drizzt books. Could someone help refresh my memory with whatever major events took place during the Hunter's Blades Trilogy?
Who died,etc?

(Just going off memory here, so the exact sequence may be slightly out of order, but this should be close enough.)
1371 DR:
News reaches Clan Battlehammer ("Battlehammer", from hereforth) in Icewind Dale of the death of King Gandalug Battlehammer down in Mithral Hall; the clan departs for the Hall.
Battlehammer visits Mirabar, which has been suffering economically due to competition from the thriving Mithral Hall.
Resentful against the show of pride, Mirabar's leaders resolve to sabotage Mithral Hall's mining and metalworks by sending an alchemist gnome and sorceress (Nanfoodle and Shoudra, respectively).
4 drow interlopers spur the orc King Obould Many-Arrows to rally the orcs of the North for a campaign of mayhem.
Orcs and giants attack a dwarf trade party from Citadel Felbarr, but 2 survivors escape.
The monsters sack the two small human towns of Clicking Heels and Shallows.
Drizzt gets separated from the other Companions while serving as a forward scout.
King Bruenor Battlehammer is knocked into a coma at Shallows, and General Dagnabbit dies.
Drizzt wrongly assumes that it was Bruenor who was killed, and exiles himself away from the rest of the Companions.
As the Hunter and the Lone Drow, and with a death wish, Drizzt wrecklessly vows to take out as many of the orcs by himself behind enemy lines as possible (untold number of baddies bite it).
The Bouldershoulder dwarves come North to visit Battlehammer, but are detoured by a couple of curious elves (Tarathiel and Innovindil), who fly pegasi.
Battlehammer joins up with the Felbarran survivors, a contingent of disgruntled Mirabarran dwarves, and the Bouldershoulders.
Drizzt spends time with the two elves, wrongly assuming his friends are lost, and too hurt to go find out the truth.
Orcs/giants chase Battlehammer to the cliff overlooking Keeper's Dale, where the goodly forces hold their ground for months.
Regis serves well as regent.
Nanfoodle and Shoudra gain access to Mithral Hall at first as emissaries (really spies and would-be saboteurs), but come to befriend Battlehammer.
Obould is blessed by Gruumsh and powers up.
Catti-brie's hip is permanently injured by a giant's thrown boulder.
Orcs/giants chase Battlehammer into the Hall, but a revived Bruenor makes the monsters pay dearly for it; but not before Obould kills Shoudra in the process.
Monsters bust through the western gate, but are repelled back out into Keeper's Dale, where the monsters set up camp.
Monsters barricade the eastern gate with boulders.
Battlehammer busts out of the eastern wall with ore cart trains and repels the monsters back to the North; then fortifies the eastern front.
Felbarr dwarves cross the River Surbrin to join Battlehammer, and are massacred in the process.
Tarathiel the elf is killed by Obould.
Innovindil whacks Obould's son Urlgen.
Drizzt whacks two of the drow instigators.
Orcs/giants/trolls kill a bunch of dwarves from Clan Battlehammer & Citadel Felbarr.
Pikel Bouldershoulder loses a hand from a giant's thrown shale stone.
Nanfoodle and Pikel engineer an explosive mouse-trap contraption to blow away a ridge beneath Obould's frost giant allies ("BOOM!!!" *hee hee hee*).
Trolls attack Nesmé; and Battlehammer dwarves send an ill-fated party to assist the survivors (General Dagna dies).
With Catti-brie out of action, the evil sentient sword Khazid'hea calls out for anyone to wield it, and when Wulfgar's wife Delly answers the call, the sword leads her to her doom at the hand of the orcs.
The sword eventually makes its way into the hands of one of the drow instigators, Tos'un Armgo, now roaming the North solo.
Leaders of the North meet at Mithral Hall to tentatively agree to work together against the orcs.
Drizzt drives a wedge between Obould's frost giant allies and the orcs, then makes peace with the giants.
Drizzt duels with Obould twice: fleeing the first time in surprise at the orc's power; and ending in a draw the second time, but the fight is interrupted by one of the drow troublemakers, who gets killed by Obould.
Innovindil returns Drizzt to the Hall.
Drizzt finally makes love with Catti-brie for the first time.
The orcs settle in to the north, west, and south of Mithral Hall over the winter, 1371-1372 DR. |
