Longtime Realms Lover here; I'd heard of Candlekeep before but thought the place to be long defunct ^-^. Now, given hope and galvanized by our usual DM being unavailable (I had also taken a good long break from the Driver's seat as well.) I find myself galvanized to do a Realms Game again.
Only one problem... the only things I know about the Realms post Spellplague are the parts that REALLY infuriate me. (I'm Looking at you Asmodeus/Azuth/Bloodwar) and, well a few cherrypicked details; at one point Elminster was a woman (again) Khelben died (somehow) Aumunator and Lathander are the same god...
Needless to say I was upset.
The thing is, I'm kind of in the dark now if I'm going to re-embrace my beloved Faerun, now a little scarred and worse-for wear. I know about the hysterically silly reincarnation of the Companions of The Hall, which I am happy about the idea,if nothing else. But otherwise I'm in the dark beyond Maztica being back, Halruaa being a place again, and Thibbledorf Pwent being a vampire dwarf... for some inconceivable reason.
So; lay it on me; what has been going on in the Realms since The Reckoning? What IS the Reckoning specifically beyond something about AO re-writing the Tablets of Fate? (spoilers should be marked as such of course.) What NPCs are there? What gods are back? Who died since? Is Mirt The Moneylender still around? Etc?
I don't care about being spoiled on various things, that's what this thread is for after all. And of course, as per the rules, keep it polite, I am trying very hard to do so myself.
Mod edit: Relocated at OP's request.

Here (http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19630) is a timeline of what we know about the Sundering.
The thing is, we know very little about it. The Novels are supposed to be a narrow perspective on what is supposed to be a huge, world/pantheon-spanning event. And WotC isn't very keen on giving us any lore on the new FR at all.
As for what gods are back, all the ones who were ''lost'' in the previous editions are supposedly returning, but that is very vague and -once again- we know very little about it (only Helm, Mystra, Mask, Lathander, Nobanion and Bhaal were actually shown returning in the novels). |

Arian, there are many things NDAs prevent full and proper answers from being given to, but just as you asked Ed about Volo in his thread, if you don't mind posing specific question after specific question, Ed doesn't mind trying to answer them. And when he encounters something he can't give a direct answer to, he's pretty good at hinting, so you end up with something to cling to. Yes, all of the gods are back if you want them to be, but they are almost all far more distant from mortals (fewer avatars swaggering around, far fewer Chosen because that midst-of-the-Sundering grab for power didn't go well for any deity). I know Ed and others have been working to slip mentions of this or that deity into Realmslore, to reassure fans who ache to know the fate of, say, Eilistraee (just to name one). So, she purred, I'm here. USE me. (Ahem.) Only use me over in Ed's thread in the Chamber of Sages, because I don't wander all over the forums often, and may miss calls for me or Ed placed elsewhere. love, THO |

Toy answer your second question, The Sundering and Ao's rewriting of the Tablets of Fate, to paraphrase Ed, is an in-game way of restoring the Realms to a state more akin to the way it was before the Spellplague (it is NOT a retcon, it is a development).
Ed and Bob Salvatore began work on it a few years ago and the premise behind it is that Since the Tablets of Fate were destroyed, small things were going wrong with Toril. Little bits of Abeir were swapping places with Toril from 1358 DR - Mystra's murder just accelerated the process - only, as Ed revealed in his novels, Mystra wasn't truly dead, she just had to appear so for a while.
The actual process of restoration took place over about 8 months and had *something* to do with the ritual that created Evermeet. |

Mirt is still around, as of Ed's Sundering novel. It's been said all the gods are back, and a list of the major players can be found in the 5E Basic Rules. (Free download, I'll hopefully remember the link later.) But just because a given deity isn't in that list, doesn't mean they are gone, just that they didn't get listed for space reasons. Explanations on how that works are being anxiously awaited, but it's there. Your best bet would be to search yhe stacks here for threads related to The Sundering, you'll find most of the details hashed out there. |
