Hi everyone.
My wife and I always wanted to have a portrait of Gary Gygax somewhere in our house. I'm an old player and I feel a deep respect for G.G. and his work, specially Unearthed Arcana, and my players are also aware of Gygax's legacy and we all are grateful to him.
Well, the fact is that a few days ago I was looking for a nice frame in the local stores and run into a cheap wooden key box, and had the idea to make some kind of "portable altar" so I always could carry the G.G. portrait with me to the rpg sessions. Besides, most of my players believe in the "blessing the dices" thing (I don't) and I installed a small shelf with hinges so they can put their dices or miniatures there (yesterday a female player put some incense as an offering).
Here are some pictures:

I don't want anybody in the forum getting upset for this or thinking that this is a disrespect to G.G. When young players ask me about the guy in the picture I have a chance to explain who was him and what he did for the rpg community. I think about this as some kind of acknowledgement and appreciation for its work, as I said above. And of course I don't want anyone thinking that I'm crazy or obsessed with G.G., it's just that... we like to do this.

I had the pleasure of knowing him, or at least meeting him a few times when I was a kid. While I don't think I'll ever make an alter, it is a nice sentiment Absatalar.

I'm aware that here in Europe we see the Gary Gygax's figure as a legend, and the fact is magnified because we never had the luck of meeting him and we only have an idealized representation of his person. To me, having an altar (wich I call so because I don't know any better word for the item)is like having a portrait of a great baseball player or any other high level sportsman.
Anyway, G.G. is in my list of people I would have liked to meet, and so do many people I know.
(By the way, sorry for my english) |

It kinda reminds me of the altars to dead family members seen in some anime. |

LOL. I don't know the right translation for "Portable Virgin", but it is the real name in spanish (Virgen Portátil). I know it is kind of weird :S |
