Are there any wikis (or threads I haven't seen) with alternate Faerunian timelines? I know i've posted my own altered Pantheon before and some people seemed interested. People often seem to message in passing their own realms but it does not seem to get shared. I would be interested in reading other peoples' non-Canon homebrew.
I write my own content that continues beyond 1372 while ignoring the changes I find distasteful from 4e. Would any other people be interested in sharing their creations in such a way? I am not sure how one would go about doing that but I wanted to put the thought out there.
So many people complain about the canon I wonder if we should share our own versions of the realms instead of just being angry.
Well at the moment issue 2 mostly contains articles by me but it has the beginnings of a series of articles on lycanthropy by another member of these boards starting with an alternate origin for were creatures.
You can do articles on anything as long as its realms based. I've done a few timelines a few deity writeups some character focus articles a few adventure paths and a tiny bit of fan fic.
If you pm me your email address then I will email you issue 2.
I've posted before how my own personal Realms would look, if I was running a Realms campaign. Long story short, my Realms would be based on 2E sources, with some 3E events ignored (the Silence of Lolth, the Sojourner's activities) and others modified (the Rage of Dragons, the Crusade). And then the timejump and Spellplague would fail to happen.
In my own idea of the realms (I have a campaign but my players don't care about the back story....I do it anyways....) the spellplague happened but was very different and not as much copying World of Warcraft. I also made up an event called the "Dawn Restructuring" which caused some deities to become absent from the realms (in order to make one pantheon) and others to "return to life" (Such as Murdane) My alternate Pantheon is what I spent the most time working on. I am very interested in the study of religion and religious belief in the real world + tried to make the pantheon include the sort of deities I think would really be worshiped in a polytheistic world. I have written up descriptions of deities as well with more complex dogmas since I think a lot of the source material is written for a broad audience and there are more philosophical ideas that could be included.
I have worked on is the Red Wizards in exile who plot to use the power of their trade empire and the Thayan diaspora to one day try to reconquer Thay.
Also I made up a "Moonsea Confederacy" where the Moonsea city states loosely cooperate to defend themselves and have power against Netheril and Cormanthyr.
I will consider fleshing out one of these things to submit.
I have thought of using a tumblr.com account to post things I write. Would you ever consider that for your magazine? It could be a shared account and each contributor puts their name or Pseudonym to differentiate the different timelines.
Well being a strong anti 4e man myself I had never considered spellplague alternatives but I see no reason not to put it in the magazine. Just because WoTC did such a hash job og it doesnt mean we all couldnt come up with something better (probably in our sleep given the quality of the spellplague).
Im too old to know what tumblr is or what its for but im always open to collaborative efforts.
In all honesty I had never considered adding in post spellplague lore but thats because im old school and set in my way. However I see no reason not to put spellplague material in it. After all it couldn't be any worse than whay WoTC came up with and the magazine is all about alternate versions of the realms so it should include the spellplague as well.
Im afraid im far too old to know what tumblr is but im always open to collaborative efforts (although they are usually fraught with difficulty). I just intended for the mag to contain series of articles where each person showcases his own vision of the realms, but if people want to work together on stuff then its even better
