Ok, since I am running a D&D 3.5/Pathfinder hybrid, I use many of the game material in Pathfinder in my Realms games.
So with their campaign specific material, I try my best to match them with equivalent Forgotten Realms regions and cultures. I have done this with their new classes, prestige classes, monsters, equipment etc.
For example, I use the Psychopomps extraplanar beings as they are, except they see Jergal as their leader and he makes use of them for his current role. But he uses them sparingly, making them mythical and mysterious even to Realms inhabitants.
So I am trying to adapt the Aldori swordlords to the Realms, and they're basically master duelists with their own symbolic weapon: the Aldori dueling sword (or simply, dueling sword). I dunno the real world equivalent of such a weapon, but I wish to give these guys a more proper name than "Aldori".
Which means I need to base them in a part of the Realms renowned for duelists.
Any ideas? Or known facts?

-The Corsair Domains of Zakhara immediately come to mind. A bunch of lawless little islands in the Great Sea that serve as hideouts and little de facto states for pirate crews.
-The fact that the race can be renamed al-Dori, fitting Zakharan naming conventions, is an added bonus. |

Warriors & Priests of the Realms had the warrior of waterdeep kit which has several similarities to the Aldori Swordlords. I also tend to see Brevoy as a cross between the coastal Western Heartlands and Westeros with Waterdeep/King's Landing as New Stetven, Greenfields/the Riverlands as Rostland, etc. etc.
Though I suppose an Aldori Swordlord would be closer to a braavosi water dancer. |

| You could also do it as a sort of widespread club... Founded in one city, by a famed swordsman. He trained people in his techniques, and eventually some of them set up new chapterhouses in other cities. |

I'd go with the Chessentan city-states to add a bit of non-RW flavour to them.

| I could see dueling being popular in Sembia as well as Impiltur, possibly with the different regions favoring different styles (i.e. I see Sembians focusing on single weapon, with improved feint and some sneak attack abilities.... so essentially they focus on deft and damaging strikes.... whereas I can see the Impilturans focusing on mastery of swordplay, defensive combat, OR possibly focusing on two weapon styles) |

| Sembia, Waterdeep, Amn, and Chessenta come to mind. In my version of the Realms, the loose city-states of the Border Kingdoms holds an organization of sellswords who helped take over various locations for their own uses. They called themselves the Border-blades, protecting their growing areas of influence with the aid of their "breatheren". However, not all of them got along and infighting and dueling wasnt uncommon which had resulted in a few deaths. |

Many interesting replies here, but this one spoke out to me because I was strongly thinking the same thing considering Chessenta's nature. |
