Beneath one of the trees in the courtyard of Candlekeep sits a solitary man. His black cloak is tattered and in his lap rests a black cane on wich even darker symbols are inscribed. In his bony white hands he holds a scroll that he studies hard, sometimes tracing a path along its surface with one of his bony fingers. The figure beneath the tree goes unmarked by most of those who pass him by, but a few acknowledge his presence and know him as Ius, a mage of unknown origin, but seemingly of great competence. Ius, for that is indeed what he calls himself, seem to take no notice of how days passes, as he study the map, turning it this way and that, and muttering to himself. He only breaks of from his studies once in a while to take a swallow from a plain lead bottle that he produces from some unknown place whithin his robes. Suddenly he breaks of from his studies and pulls forth a parchment from a worn leather bag he has fastened to his belt. He scribbles something on the parchment while muttering to himself, an then nails it to the tree he was just resting beneath, using a black iron nail that seems to have appeared out of nowhere. The parchment flutters in the breeze, but those who are close enough can read what it says:
Have Ye A Life To Spare? Unknown Adventure For Whitheld Payment, A Quest In To The Dark Beneath For Those Bold And Brave! Intrested Parties Please Contact Ius The Mage, By Proxy Or Person.
After fastening the parchment the cloaked figure once more sits himself down and rests his cane in his lap. Those observing him though, can not help to see his hands tapping his cane impatiently.

Ius rises from the ground. "So once more I will be the lonesome wanderer!" Ius walks out from the tree he has been resting beneath and starts to trace a pattern in the gravel. The pattern is simple to the eye, but as you look at it the pattern developes a life of its own. Ius speaks slowly, with his head turned towards the ground, he circle the symbols... "I will open this gate for those who want to walk beside me, and maybe it will serve those looking for me as well! Fate has an infinity of threads and fate is haunting me! Therefore I must take my leave!" Ius finishes his tirade with a dry laugh, "HAR HAR HA,,neee" Iuses face seems to contort in pain, and then he steps whithin the arcane pattern and is gone. |

A few days after Ius stepped through the gate he reapears although not through the portal but through the door of the Candlekeep in, there he pauses as if waiting for someone. Unknown to Ius a big, hulking figure, that stands in one of the deeper shadows of the Candlekeep courtyard, watches the mage. The only sign revealing the unknown figures presence whitin the shadow are the countour of two glowing eyes. The eyes have orbs so light that they blend seemlesly whith the whites, giving them the appearence of two cold stars whitin the blackness of the shadows. "Sooo", the figure hisses, "Ius the Mage... I have found you at last" The shadowy form of the speaker then whithdraws deeper whitin the shadows and dissapears from sight. |

:: Ezindir walks trough the portal and ends up in the Underdark, he swiftly look around ,and as he hears some unidentified voices from the corner, he hides in the shadows. His Ravens have found a cliff a little higher up, they both sits down and wait. Ezindir obviously are a little uncomfortable, and he very often takes out a magical key and look at it :: |

Ius stepps out through the portal, and looks around. To aid his vision he conjurs a soft violet light at the top of his walking cane and holds the cane aloft. "Ah, Ezindir there you are! We shall now proceed down the tunnel yonder. The tunnel leads to the segment of Undrek`thoz called Vrasl. There we shall try to find an audience with matron mother Harthel Vras, an undead lolth cleric who has great knowledge of the surrounding enviroments. Harthel is a mean old girl according to the rumors I have heard but no one knows these tunnels better. Also, when we come to Vrasl, do not be upset about the undead you find there, and whatever you do do not harm them! Vrasl is the segment of necromancers and they use the undead as slave labour. Harming anothers undead is a crime in this segment. When we arrive to Vrasl However I will cast a spell that renders us invisible to the undead, untill we find our way there though, I shall have to rely on your keen senses to keep us safe!" Ius starts down the tunnel he indicated earlier, the violet light from his cane reflecting in the moisture on the tunnel walls. He signals for Ezindir to follow. |

Ius jumps as Ezindirs arrow impact with its target, then calms himself, "Master elf, your aim is as true as your eyes are sharp, I am truly lucky to have you with me on this journey!" Pray tell me what manner of creature did you just shoot, my eyesight is poor here even though it is magically enhaced." |

Ius continues the journey and after a few hours he turns back to Ezindir, "Master elf I know that you do not lightly succept yourself to the magic of others, but trust me now as I cast this enchantment upon thee! It is but a minor spell, although here, at this place, it will prove to be of great use. You see, we are very near the caverns of the drow hold, and this spell will render us invisible to the undead." Ius waves his hands in the air and speak words that make a sound so strong that they almost seem to take on a physical aspect. Finally he touches Ezindir. "The spell is done, so cometh the hour of our arrival at the gates of Vrasl!" "Follow me brave companion together we will conquer the terrors of this place." |

Ius and Ezindir folow the winding tunnel downwards. After an hour they reach the end of the tunnel. In front of them, guarding an opening wide enough for ten men, is a gate constructed completely of bones and other remains taken from intelligent creatures. Ius and Ezindir pauses here and wait for a reaction from the inhabitants. After a while shadows gather near the gate and the companions hear soft whispers and moans. "These are spirits of slaves and soldiers, they ask our businiess here." Ius says. "I am the one known as the Wanderer, and I have dealings with your mistress! My companion is most competent and not to be bothered at your own peril and souls destruction." Ius turns towards Ezindir, "These guardians can see us but the rest of the undead spawn will not, so do not bother them or speak to them, if you please." Ius walks through the gates of bone and into the city of Vrasl. |

Ius and Ezindir starts to make their way in the drow city of Vrasl. Word of their arrival seems to have spread whitin the segment for the two companions are not bothered by the drow. The drow city of Vrasl is, if possible, more foreboding than other drow cities, the houses of both the commoners and nobles look old and, although beutiful in a sinister way, the buildings look in need of repair. What strikes the two companions most though, is the silence of the place, all that is heard is the occasional rustle of gravel as an animated skeleton walks by performing some menial task for its drow masters. The ordinary drow is rarely seen during their walk through the city and the citizens of Vrasl are somewhat different from other drow in that they dress in plain clothes in somber colours and are of an unobtrusive and silent disposition. After walking towards the noble houses for a while, a tall lean drow dressed in a black reptile-leather cloak adress the companions, "Greetings visitor Ius and greetings visitor Ezindir!", the drow says in heavily accented Common. "My dark lady Harthel, highpriestess of lolth, has granted you the high honour of an audience! Follow my lead to the house of Vrasl, my name is Huthenk Vras, second male of house Vrasl and I will see to your safety while in our city." The drow flashes the companions a smile that, on account of the fangs and cold eyes of Huthenk, is more grothesque than friendly. The trio continues the walk through the city, and though Ius is not sure, he senses movement whithin the shadows on all sides. Ius looks to Ezindir for confirmation of his suspicions, the elf having much keener eyesight than the old mage. Indeed Ezindir seems to notice something that is obscured to Ius but he says nothing. Whatever is following them however, it makes no move against them, and soon the party stand outside the compound of House Vrasl. |

Ius notices how Ezindirs two ravens circle high up almost undetectable against the black roof of the cavern. No attack seems to be imminent however, and Ius and Ezindir are guided in to the house proper. The sense of decay that pervades the city is also present whitin the citys first house; the fairy fire usually bathing drow cities in vague but beutiful colours is at this place, and in the rest of Vrasl, limited to pale shades of green, gray and sickly yellow auras. The main compound itself looks less like a drow noble house than a slab of basalt that has been randomly struck by some titanic force, leaving it chipped and cracked. No spires reach for the ceiling and but a single window glares out from the top of the structure like a pupiless, malignant eye. Ezindir and Ius are led towards the gates of the main keep, a huge adamantine door, hangs on hinges of the same material that seems to have been molded in to the rock of the walls. When the companions look around they see that their followers have finally decided to show themselves. From the shadows there emerges eight thin figures, obviously drow, that wear black pants and boots but have left their torsos uncovered by clothing showing disfigurating scars seemingly inflicted by a number of different weapons. The drows themselves however carries no weapons at all. "Ah, let me present to you our little escort, the holy brothers of the Blackened Fist, they serve my family as personal bodyguards, as well as they uphold the laws of UndrekīThoz.", says Huthenk Vras, another bestial smile playing upon his lips."I hope you will excuse their presence, but I deemed it a necessary insurance!" This sentence is followed by the grinding sound of the enormous gate slowly opening, as if by its own violation. The brothers of the blackened fist makes no further moves though, and stays in the courtyard, as Huthenk leads Ius and Ezindir into the keep. No apparent guards are visible whitin the keep, and the long corridor that greets the party is empty except for a couple of grayish lights beaming from electrum rods that are fastened to the black stone walls as torches. The secondboy of house Vrasl lead them to the end of the corridor where no other opening or door can be seen. Huthenk pulls forth a medallion that has rested whitin his shirt and utters a word. To the suprise of the companions a thick mist instantly appears where they are standing, and when it just as suddenly clears they find themselves whitin the audience chamber of Harthel Vras, highpriestess of Lolth and Matron of house Vrasl.

In front of the companions lies a huge hall, its high ceiling obscured in darkness. The fluttering sound of bats and the crawling sound of spiders are the only sounds that desturbs the gloomy hall. The hall is bare with the exceptions of two gigant candelabra, in wich severed members sputters like obscene candles, and in between them a massive slab of stone, as black as the walls that surround it. The burning flesh is the only thing that lights this room, and the flickering auras does not give of much light at all. From somewhere out of the darkness of the room a Drow female emerges, and positions herself in front of the stone slab. She is tall for a drow woman, almost the hight of a fully grown human male, but so thin as to almost be skeletal. She is clothed in a black satin dress and a huge cloack of some indeterminable material resembling spiderwebs. On her bald head rests a crown made af blackened adamintine wire, resembling thorns of somekind, that is infused with white and yellow diamonds. The thorns have fused with the skin at some places, making it seem like the weird tiara grows out of her head. The female however does not show any sign of distress as she adresses the companions, her black, shark like eyes as dead as the stonewalls of the hall. "Greetings Travelers, I, obviously am Matron Vrasl, you have gambled much to seek me out and your boldness have granted you my intrest and thereby your requested audience! Ordinarly I would not seek the company of my lessers, but these are extraordinary times and perhaps our meeting can be mutually beneficient. Now present yourselves in front of me, and state your errand!" Matron Vrasls cold voice ecoes out her command through the hall. Ius slowly makes his way towards the female and stops short about ten feet infront of the matronmother and bows low, "Greetings Matron Vrasl, I am Ius, a travelling mage. I am most honoured to have been given the opportunity to seek your advice, and indeed i am confident that our meeting will benefit us all!" The matron only nods in acknowledgement and says, "Who is your companion? Present yourself!" She looks towards Ezindir awaiting a reply. |

"Well, I guess that will have to do. Now, tell me of your errand here and how I will benefit from it!" Ius clears his throat and says, "Our reason for coming here is that we seek knowledge. I am in search of a colony or group of humans that is said to dwell somewhere in the underdark. My studies have led me here to Vrasl, because it was near Undrek`thoz that these humans were encountered by the drow for the first time. And although that was millenia ago, we thought that maybe their wereabouts are known to you. What I offer in return are magical items, not of great power but of quantity, you see, I have been informed of the fact that such items are in high regard with the matron mothers nowadays." Ius ends this final sentance with a light smirk. Harthels deathlike expression does not change, she merely nods in acceptance to Ius words. "Your words are true Wanderer, I am in dire need of such items, perhaps my need is not as great as many other matrons, but even so I can not deny the advantages that such magicks could bring me." "The silence of my godess has not affected my mind however and I think that I might be of assistance to your quest. I will aid you with this, and after I have done so you will give me the items. I warn you however, if the reward is not great enough or you attempt trickery of any sort you will never leave this place!" "Now, human, tell me the name of this group of people and I will reveal their location, if it is known to me." Ius pauses, and then says, "I know not their name Matron. The people I am searching for is my long lost family and the last remains of a once mighty kingdom. However, the name of the kingdom and its people have somehow erased itself from my mind on my walk through the centuries, and though I can remember the faces and names of my relatives I can not remember what the name of the realm was, or even where it was situated. Why this is I do not know, I can not recall when I lost this information, but I have existed for many centuries and time does strange things to the mind" Matron Harthel, starts pacing the hall as if deep in thought, finally she says;"When first I heard your proposal I thought that the people you where looking for were some escaped slaves or something similar, but there is evidently something more to this search. The problem that presents itself is that, whitout the name of your people, a search in my familys records for this information would take months, and I can not spare that time, not now at least. I can suggest something else though..." "I have in my service a creature who is called Kerisilth, a mindfalyer, whos speciality is the power of the mind. Maybe he can aid you in remebering this information." Ius looks hesitantly towards Ezindir then says; "I would not normally risk this, but I am beginning to see a possible end for a search that has gone on for millenia, so I will submit myself to the attentions of this Kerisilth. I will just bring to your attention though, that the promised items are not on my person, so if I am slayed you will have gained nothing!" A vague inhuman laugh is heard from Harthel; "Fear not Mage, you and your companion have not only spoken to my greed but to my curiosity as well, no harm will come to you during this experiment, this I swear by my godess. Bring me Kerisilth!" Harthel shouts out the order, and although there seems to be no one around to hear it, after a few seconds a purple skined mindflayer emerges from a hereto unseen door in the wall behind the candelabras. "You summonned me mistress?" The creature says in a watery voice. Harthel then explains the situation for the Mindflayer who thinks for a while, observes Ius intently, and then speaks. "I can lead the Mage to the palce whitin his mind where this information is held but i can not unlock the seal that guards this information. You see, the reason, as far as I can tell, that the mage do not remember is not because of old age or trauma. Instead there seems to be an alteration here brought on by exterior influence that keeps him from remebering this information." "What I can do is create a mental projection in which we walk through your mind to the place where the information is held. Braking the seal that protects it though I can not do, you must manage this by yourself." Ius consideres the mindflayers words. "How will I know that you will not attack me whilst in the projection?" Ius says. Kerisilth gives of a watery chuckle,"Surely I am no match for one such as you, but if you want to be sure that I do not decieve you bring along your companion. Together you two could easily defeat any trick of mine." Ius turns towards Ezindir. "I know that I have asked a lot already of you, but will you follow me in through the projection friend?"

Kerisilth nodds approvingly and wiggles his tentacles. "Just relax, and I will project the image whitin your minds. The effect will be a bit like walking whitin an illusion, it is not real but the effects whitin the projection symbolizes what is occuring whitin your psyche. For instance, were you to die whithin the projection you will die in real life too." As the companions reluctantly tries to relax the illithid closes his milkywhite eyes and begin to focus his energies. Soon the walls of the real world fade and are replaced by the blue glowing projection of a tunnel, the companions standing whitin it. When they look towards each other they notice that they too are cowered i a blueglowing aura, why this is so they do not know. Kerisilth who is still whith the companions speak; "This is a projection of your mind Ius and we stand now whitin it. If we continue down this tunnel we shall reach the place where we can find the information that you are looking for. Let us proceed whith haste, I can not sustain this projection indefinitly." The small group continues down the wide blueglowing tunnel, but before they have gone far they see, coming against them, wraithlike black creatures flying whitin the tunnel and giving of mindnumbing screeches. Kerisilth shouts to the companions;"Beware! These are projections of your own mind created by the magick that opposes us. Use your weapons against them as you would in real life!" Kerisilth hardly has time to finish his sentence as six black spirits, two on each companion, descends upon the travellers. Ius fires of a lightningbolt that destroys one of his opponents, but is nearly beheaded by the other spirits slash whit an insubstantial black sword. Kerisilth likewise manages to blast one of the spirits whit a psionic thrust but is in turn wounded by a fast jab from another spirits sword. |

The spirits scatter under the assult of the companions magic, and the tunnel is once more empty. Kerisilth urges the travellers on and they walk further down the glowing tunnel. After they have travelled thus for a while, the tunnel ends in what appears to be a glowing disc of white energy that hangs vertically across the tonnel, blocking all passage. If one studies the disc closer there are even brighter runes inscribed on its surface and in its middle there seems to be a small crack, only an inch long and half that wide. Kerisilth speaks; "As I suspected your memories are blocked by some exterior party making it imposible for you to recall the sought after information. The white energydisc symbolizes this enchantment to your mind whitin this projection, you must break this door down to be able to accses the information." Ius nodds and takes a deep breath, "I will try" Ius then begins to assult the door with a myriad of spells one more poweful than the other, but although the mage is as powerful as any wizard alive his castings have no affect. Even when Kerisilth adds his own considreable powers to the assult it does nothing to shift the disc or even lessen its dweomer. "This disc seems to be immune to all our attempts to force it open! But surely there must be a way to unlock its secrets? Have you any ideas master elf?

Kersilith speaks; "I agree that this "door" can not be forced open, but how we shall unlock the mysteries that will make us pass is beyond my knowledge." Ius, too, looks perplexed; "Maybe I have held the key to open this door but, even if it is so, I can not remember how we shall pass." Kersilith speaks once more; "Think hard, the both of you, I feel that the solution to this riddle is staring us right in the face." Kerisilth walks up to the sphere and drags his purple coloured fingers over it studying the small opening in the sphere; "Hmm there seem to be a small poem or something similar inscribed above this hole in the disc!" Kerisilth concentrates and the says; "The poem is written in an aincent tounge called Imaskari, translated to common it reads;
Sleight of hand, axe or sword Mages might, prayers divine None of those will open Door The secretīs safe whitin this mind
All of those usurpers use Prove your right worthy this Show a token of ownership Nothing else shall grant your wish!"

Ius shruggs and says; "Of course I know the answer! //Duh!!// The riddle suggests that those who are not meant to know this secret can not gain the information by using force. Instead I must show a token that identifies me as a person that is allowed to open this door; and the token the riddle speaks of is of course a key! If you have a key to any door you are at least presumed to be allowed entrance! If I am not mistaken master Ezindir I gifted you with a key that will open any lock? Will you allow me to try the key on this portal?" |

Leading this force is a huge human wearing an animal mask shaped like a hyena. Ius leading the defenders looks like they are going to emerge victorious, when the large mask wearing human points a finger at Ius and the clutch of mages standing around him. The figure unleashes a bolt of pure black energy that stikes Ius and blasts the wall to pieces. Ius falls to the ground, he rises slowly as the attackers swarm around him. The huge maskwearing man walks up to Ius who looks as if he is defeated. But just as the huge figure rises a black dagger to finish the mage off, Ius screams out a spell covering the figure in green energy. The figure lets out a bloodchilling howl and then disitegrates. Dismayed by their leaders demise the attackers are easily scattered by the remaining defenders. As Ius looks up one can see that a terrible change has come upon him; his once jetblack hair is dirty gray and his skin seems grayish and transluscent. It looks like he has aged fifty years in mere moments. The vision fades and the party once more stands whitin the grand hall of matron mother Harthel Vras.
